Star Wars Resistance First Look!

Well good on MakingStarWars.net for getting that rumor right about the premier date and time. 10 pm still seems super odd to me but at least they are starting to roll out information.

There does seem to be a heavy racing focus to the show. Not quite sure how I feel about that considering I was hoping for a more star fighter combat heavy show. Almost gives a speed racer esque vibe from watching the trailer a few times.

 

I don't like what I see here, unfortunately. It would probably be hard to guess it's even Star Wars if there was no obvious elements like Poe or BB-8. I'm all for fresh designs etc. but for whatever reason a lot of it doesn't seem to work here. The general vibe and premise don't appeal to me either. We'll see. It's still just a small sample, but I'm not really interested in this.

 

Set a few years before TFA. I understand the show will center in new characters, and we will see folks like Poe and Phasma as guest stars. Hoping the show dares into tell us more about the Knights of Ren and Snoke's origins. Unless the master plan is for JJ to reveal this in IX.

 

that's very true. I'll definitely give this a chance as I have enjoyed both Clone Wars and Rebels, but I think this show may be a hard sell for a lot of people initially which is also part of the reason I find the 10 pm premier time a bit odd. Personally I'm not upset about the premier time except I am running my first marathon that morning so I'm going to have to hope to god I have enough energy to stay up to watch this/my hotel gets Disney.

 

Can't say this has grabbed me like TCW or Rebels did but Poe and BB8 are awesome and it's post ROJ so I'm in regardless. Seems like it is extremely child friendly, even more so than Rebels was. Hopefully there is enough here to keep me invested in the long run.

 

This is from the article over at StarWars.com and gives a brief overview of the first episode. Again, the fact that this is a 1 hour episode and doesn't premiere until 10 pm just makes it seem very odd to me, unless they really are banking on the younger audience to spend Columbus day watching the rerun of this episode.

 

Didn't Rebels air at 9pm? Not that big of a difference. I watch them the day after regardless so it doesn't really matter to me

The thing with this show is everything that has come out so far has made it seem like this is more of a kid focused audience type of show compared with Rebels and The Clone Wars so that's why it seems a bit odd to have it premiere at 10 pm. Rebels also took a slightly different premiere approach by doing the television movie Spark of Rebellion which premiered 10 days before the actual series premiered on October 13th and was shown at SDCC to help generate buzz for it. Since The Clone Wars revival was the focus for SDCC, there aren't really that many big events for them to use before this premieres for them to generate a serious amount of buzz.

 

I dig it. Of course the animation looks different and the focus of the show is potentially non-FS characters in a period of time we have some partial knowledge (between the end of the book Bloodline and perhaps sandwiched between the first issues of the Poe Dameron comic) but we shall see. A friend said it gave her the vibe of the X-wings EU books.

 

That's true. Maybe they are just throwing it on at 10pm in anticipation of the streaming service, where live numbers will never matter?

 

This article by Entertainment Weekly also confirms that Leia Organa will also be making an appearance on this show voiced by Rachel Butera.

 

Finally! Took them long enough.
The look is fine. But I am used to it from anime, but still. The fighter action looks great so far, and that's supposed to be the core of the show.
As for kid friendlyness - both the CW and Rebels started like this and matured in later seasons (remember Ahsoka and Jar Jar from CW S1). That doesn't bother me too much either.
I think we should give this cartoon a chance. It's ST era worldbuilding and both Filoni's previous shows got better with time.

EDIT: Disregard that. I've rewatched the trailer and it looks great.

 

I will keep saying it over and over: It is a great time to be a Star Wars fan.

 

The artstyle is very similar to Tron: Uprising, one of the previous shows done by this animation studio.

As for the actual content of the trailer... It's fine. This trailer is definitely not targeted towards adults, so I'll reserve my judgement for when the episode actually airs. Overall, it's fine. The animation style is a grower.

 

Oh, I forgot about that! Great show, veru intense and got cancelled way too early.
