Not a very good trailer, luckily it seems to all be just from the first episode. The art style is weird because the landscapes, ships, droids and buildings all look amazing but the characters are not that great. Not really sure how I feel at this point, I'll still watch it because it's Star Wars and t's canon but no too excited for it. It also looks a bit too childish but hopefully that's just the trailer.

Yeah... I would have expected something like this much sooner to tie-in with the current movies rather than focusing on earlier eras.

Personally I much prefer the look of this to the 3D animation style of Clone Wars and Rebels. It's how I sometimes imagined a SW 'cartoon' to look. Far better than some of the 'Flash' style animations of early Clone Wars and the current Forces Of Destiny.

It's obviously anime inspired, and I'm just reminded of 'Battle Of The Planets', an anime imported in the wake of the original SW and repackaged to appeal to the young SW audience of the day.

Although personally I'm still holding out on an animated SW series or even a movie based on the comic-book style of Olivier Vatine's and Fred Blanchard's work on Heir To The Empire. That would be glorious.

Having said that, the screenshot from Tron: Uprising posted by @Pawek_13 does look somewhat reminiscent of their depiction of Admiral Thrawn...

My first reaction was kind "meh". I was hoping for an anime like look, but this is a weird mixture of animation and CGI. The background and locations look okay, but the characters... Not a big fan of this.

At least this series seems to give us some fun adventures. It especially looks great for kids.

    probably because it's for children.
    and people who are kids-at-heart. ; D
it's a weird mix to my eyes as well, but i like it better than the style for Clone Wars and Rebels. i think it will grow on me.

So, I went back and looked for the trailer for Ducktales (because of course I did) to see how it compares to the series and to the trailer for the Resistance show. Here it is:

So, these two trailers are basically the same. All the footage is from the pilot episode, the editing is very similar and both are obviously shows done for channels owned by Disney. As a great proponent for the new Ducktales, I can assure you this trailer doesn't do the show justice. The trailer for Disney cartoons seem to be edited in a very standardized way that kind of harms the shows they're intended to advertise. What I'm trying to say is that the show will be better than the trailer. The new crop of cartoons made for Disney is genrally praised and if you'll be able to get over the fact that this is a show targeted for younger demographics, you'll most likely have a pretty good time. If not, well, you'll have to wait for the Jon Favreau's show.

PS. Also, a small but quite important fact - the show's lead is a person of colour and is aso voiced by such (the actor is of Asian descent.)

@Pawek_13 i was a huge fan of the original Duck Tales and have yet to see the new series but have heard nothing but good things about it.
i agree the trailer looks completely cobbled from the pilot and is not a good representation of the overall show (no focus on villains, no action other than the racing).

still wish the art had more contrast, but maybe if i wasn't so mole-sighted, that wouldn't be as much of a problem.

Things can be for children without being too childish. Rebels and Clone Wars were prime examples of that, so is Avatar: The Last Airbender which is one of the most beloved shows of kids and adults alike.

i'm sure this will find its own audience.
it doesn't need to be like anything that came before it.

Yeah, the artstyle is a bit of an acquired taste. I will get used to it, though. On my second rewatch of the trailer my reaction towards it wasn't as drastic as on the first one.

But it also shouldn't be so geared toward one specific audience that you alienate the others.

i'm almost sure the Favreau show will not be geared for young children.
there's enough Star Wars for everybody. more Star Wars than ever! : D

this is clearly for a younger crowd ~ maybe even younger than the Rebels kids.
i think it's awesome to let them have some fun Star Wars.
if you think this is alienating, i honestly don't know what to say.
there are already tons of toys and books made just for young children which adults likely aren't interested in.
that's actually a kind of smart marketing.

saying it's alienating and shouldn't be geared to a specific audience is basically like complaining that the Playskool series exists:

Not everything has to be made to appeal to everybody. Sometimes things can be made to appeal to children and exlusively children. It's not a 'rule' or a 'law' that you have to always appeal to the broadest audience as possible. Narrowcasting is a thing too.

Star Wars is already something that appeals to kids, you don't need to make it more childish and more slapstick for them since they already like it. I assume that Favreau's show will accessible to kids as well even if it is more "pg-13", there are plenty of things that are in the pg-13 range that kids watch and enjoy.

IMO Clone Wars had such an unique look to it, that's what I think this new show is unfortunately lacking. Like the others mentioned before it looks like a Tron animated series "spin-off".

Which is cool. It means now they can get excited about a cartoon series made just for them.

We on the other-hand can get excited about maybe reading one of the novels with the small print and no pictures.

Sure. If their parents let them.

is that good or bad? XD

honestly, the last cartoon shows i've watched have been Rebels (don't like that style at all), Batman: the Animated Series (didn't like it at first, but it totally grew on me), and then just straight up anime, which has sometimes been beautiful and sometimes been spastic brain rot.

while i'm finding this very soft, it's interesting to me, and i think it will eventually be fine.
i like it better than TCW and Rebels even though it's weird, so we're off to a good start ~ ha!
