technically it's true and the FO officer du jour may be the one using this, but i'm gonna keep the pee out of my cornflakes for now ~ hahahaha

since they are supposed to be spies, i'm guessing the FO has some vested interest in the races and will have a presence there.

they do, but hope remains eternal. : D

now that you say that, he might be interested in the races himself. what his father being a racing trainer and all that.

i don't think they have to say that much or make it too complicated.
they are spying on the FO because they suspect the FO of being bad (using the racing cover to recruit? to identify threats? to steal money? get close to key targets? i dunno). the premise is similar to the one in Cobalt Squadron (which was also for youngish audiences).

in that book (which literally happens during TFA, leading to the start of TLJ), Cobalt Squadron is sent by Leia to verify that the FO is conquering a planet system. we hear lots of accusations of genocide and resource stripping. Rose and Paige also claim that the FO destroyed their homeworld, but no one did anything about it.

anyway, my point being, people keep thinking about the FO as this big obvious looming galactic threat, but they apparently weren't that prior to Hux pulling the trigger on Hosnia. they were just a policing operation going about their legitimized business while the Senate endlessly and uselessly debated over the politics of it.

hopefully this show will tell us more or make things clearer!

 

hahaha ~ the sad thing is, i can't actually recommend it. i don't think it's written well and frankly, i don't know that it actually provides any answers.
it never really explains the political situation in any sophisticated way (that's all established in Bloodline), and i think i've said this before, but the Resistance comes off like terrorists: they just go in shooting on assumptions. hey, the door is locked/perimeter is guarded/? must be for BAD reasons because we're the good guys, so let's just blow it up. two escapees declare the FO is committing atrocities? we have no evidence, but they're the bad guys so it must be legit! mmmm...k.
