    Star Wars fans hoping to be able to own season 1 of Lucasfilm’s latest animated series got a bit of news today. Star Wars Resistance: Complete Season One will be released on DVD August 20th.

    Conspicuously absent from this news is any word on any potential Blu-ray release. That news could still be forthcoming, but with the launch of Disney+ on the horizon it is possible that this will be the only release for those looking to own the series.

    We reached out to Target about the potential for a Blu-ray of the show, to which they responded with the following:
    <div>
    <div>
    <div>
    <div>
    <div>
    </div>
    </div>
    </div>
    </div>
    </div>

    With Resistance being a more kid-focused series than either Rebels or The Clone Wars, it is possible a physical HD release was determined to not be necessary. It's not uncommon for shows or movies aimed at children to not get a physical HD release. It’s also possible that Disney wants to steer fans with a desire to see an HD release, and who have not yet purchased the series through one of the available streaming services (for example right now Amazon, Google Play and others have the full season as a Digital HD release with no bonus features), to their own upcoming streaming service. This is all speculation of course, but time will tell.

    We’ll keep you posted here at SWNN if any additional releases are announced. For now, check out the details on the DVD release below from Lucasfilm.

    Boy, that is surprising and disappointing news about the lack of Blu-ray. I would've checked out the audio commentaries on those four episodes. Still hoping that the Digital HD version has all of these bonus features, and that it's something more than the season pass already available on iTunes.

    What is a DVD?

    Is it like an 8-track?

    I used to work at Laser Craze, a laserdisc retailer in Boston in the mid-90s. We rented, too, and were a mail order company. On occasion,we'd get clueless tourists wandering into the store who thought we only sold movie soundtrack albums on vinyl. "Uh, nope. Those are actual movies on very large, shiny CDs. Higher quality than VHS." They'd turn around and walk out without buying anything. The store folded in late '96, just before DVD.s launched in early '97.

    Any word on whether this series will be available on Disney +?

    It seems like they're pushing it for a younger demographic, so I haven't purchased the show. But if it came on a service I was already subscribed to, I would definitely binge it

    Resistance isn't listed on the launch-day titles for Disney+, but a lot of shows on the Disney Now app are included, giving the impression Disney Now is going to be folded into Disney+. Since I watch Resistance on Disney Now, I'm hoping its omission from the launch-day list is just a goof.

    Just skip the first three episodes and the rest is good. There's couple of episodes that shows that this show could potentially become.

    I was really hoping for a BD as this is expensive/annoying to get to watch in for me the UK. I saw the first few eps and liked it a lot. IF there's no BD I'll wait until it's cheap or I have a discount for it on iTunes or something I guess. Not a great situaiton.

    When the show first released, the entire first season was available to purchase in HD through Amazon Prime for $3.99. Granted that was here in the US, and I don't know if it is still available that way at the same price. I'm guessing most likely not, unfortunately.

    I don't see it currently listed as a show that will initially be available on Disney+. *
    Because of the aforementioned Prime deal, I assume it has its streaming rights locked up for the time being.

    As someone who still gets DVDs because they're more universally able to play, this still seems like a baffling decision to exclude them.

    Does anyone know when we're getting Season 2? I'm not getting the DVD. It should ultimately be offered on Disney+( so happy I didn't buy entire seasons of Rebels and TCW, I just have a few of my favorite episodes). BTW, I got the entire first season on HD from Amazon Prime. I can stream it anytime... bonus features will inevitably be leaked online.

    I thought I had read October somewhere, but now I can't find it. Strange that there hasn't been a trailer or poster reveal for it yet...

    Yeah, I'm really surprised so far Clone Wars is the only animation that they're offering at launch.

    Well, darn-- iTunes' HD version of S1 did not update with the bonus features from the DVD, like I had hoped. Which means all of the extra content is DVD-only for now. And the iTunes season remains way overpriced for being a bare-bones offering, albeit in HD.

    Not sure I'm understanding the overall strategy here....

    It seems iTunes has updated Resistance with audio commentators on four episodes, but I still don't see the featurettes and short episodes...
