A fan who's been able to get a clear look at some code related to the Star Wars Resistance trailer on the official Star Wars website has made an interesting discovery about the show. If the information he's looking at is correct, then the series will begin about half a year before the events of Episode VII: The Force Awakens (and by extension, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi).

Let's just cut to the chase and take a look at the discovery made by Jose Ruiz:

Full disclosure: I have messed around with the 'inspect element' tool in Google Chrome that he appears to be using, on the very page that he's looking at, and have so far been unable to confirm or debunk this claim. However, a Redditor on r/StarWarsLeaks and others in that thread are claiming that they've been able to see the same text, along with providing explicit instructions as to how to get there. So it definitely sounds like this is real.

In any case, the short time-frame that this series is placed under before the events of TFA and TLJ invites speculation - one wonders if the series will eventually be set during or after those two movies, leaving room for high-profile character and voice actor cameos (since, after all, Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie are reprising their roles as Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma). There's also the possibility that the series may have a limited run in mind (like Genndy Tartakovsky's Star Wars Clone Wars series that led up to the release of Revenge of the Sith) and could wrap up before the events of either movie.

This is a possibility that's not necessarily out-of-bounds considering that Dave Filoni's revival of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is bound to be Lucasfilm Animation's primary (and most expensive/resource-heavy) endeavor going forward. For now, I'm just happy that we'll have something to help us tide over the rest of the long wait between now and the release of Star Wars Episode IXThe Clone Wars, or Jon Favreau's new show.

6 months before TFA? Yeah, not a lot can be done there. I could go into the movie territory though, dead with Hosnia's destruction and "mature" into harsh every system for inteself pre-IX reality. We'll see.

My guess is that the show will end before TFA. I doesn't come across as something that will be continued for years. But obviously I can be wrong.

Or season two (or three) will take place after The Last Jedi. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if the show follows this structure:
    1. S1 leads into TFA, ends during it.
    2. S2 takes place during and after TLJ and after it to help hype up E9.
    3. S3 wraps everything up and ends before E9.
Alternately, it's a two-season show like Gravity Falls with a clear beginning, middle, and end, and the three-season arc I proposed is lumped into a two-season one.

You can have more than three seasons if Ep.IX timejump is big enough. The ST is currently unexplored and they could go anywhere and do anything with the show. S1 would probably be in and around their station (Colossus iirc) and by S2 the characters could have to leave due to the FO invading everything and run around the Galaxy, doing their fighter pilot things. And then go into Ep.IX by gathering and consolidating forces to fight back.
    Yeah, this could work.

If it's gonna be popular enough to get more seasons.

I'm curious if they're going to use Kylo Ren in some minimal capacity. Like a brief appearance in the finale. I think it's possible. Would definitely generate interest.

Given the timeline, he's probably still searching for Luke's map; which was the ending of Battlefront 2.

The hidden source code has been amended to remove the 6 months reference.

I still have hope for Resistance... But there has been several pieces of news in the last week that greatly reduced my expectations (Filoni starting the show and then letting someone else take over, lack of trailers/tv spots, Disney Channel premiere at the dead of night,). Now there’s this news that it will take place 6 months before TFA (meaning most of the post-ROTJ timeline is still up in the air.)
Here are some things the show might address that I am hopeful for:
    1) Showing how cruel Phasma really is (the book did a good job, but the films have been Phasma-lite.)
    2) Fleshing out some of the minor characters seen in TFA including Billie Lourde.
    3) Snoke?
    4) Do the racing scenes have anything to do with Han Solo? (In Bloodline, he sponsored big races before reverting back to a smuggler in TFA.)
    5) Side-tracking to Kylo Ren and/or Finn.

Any one of these 5 things will make me pleased with Resistance if included. I don’t mind the “kiddie” show feel as long as the show itself has effort put into it. I just don’t want it to feel “pointless.”
