It only took the most confusing pile of BS ever known to man to get there, but it's there.
Sort of....


NOW you have to go learn how to do all of the mult-part RAR downloading, recompiling, and then you need to follow the instructions for making your own Blue Ray copy.

Anyone can do it. It's totally easy.

What a lovely way to spend an evening! I remember trying to do this WAY many years ago, and after a gazillion circular jump-arounds, I gave up on it. I mean, it would be great if there was a link to a torrent or something somewhere, right? Oh well, I like the Special Editions well enough for now

That is a lot of information! Yet much of it is superfluous, yes?


Perhaps no patience for more than your '3 seconds' to try and obtain them, though instead spend much more time and effort to post why you cannot get them is your way?

It took me a day or so to obtain them, most of that was the download time some time ago when internet speed was not as quick as it is now.

Quite why so many people from all over the world, over a long period of time, and with various or limited IT knowledge or understanding of English (and also without the 'bachelors' degree you mention... ) have been able to achieve this, obtain the Despecialized Editions (quite simply - with a little patience, yes), and you have not obtained them, I do not understand.

Out of interest, where is your post asking for help or assistance on there?

A little easier and quicker to type than your posts in reply ):-

The above thread has direct links to the 'HanDuet' step-by-step guide (with problem feedback page), how to get the DE via Mega (with step-by-step guide), via Usenet (with step-by-step guide), and with suggestions via torrents, links via certain online search engines, links available on certain reddits.

As already stated, people on the OT site will help others with issues if they are polite, patient or have made a little effort themselves. Even to the stage of giving out a direct link to the DE if needed via PMs. If someone is entitled, rude, or impatient they will likely less help you. A little like real life, no?



PS - you do not need to know how to make (burn?) a blu ray. It is possible to store them on a USB drive, hard drive, or a pc 'media center' setup if so wished, and play them through the tv. No blu ray discs or equipment required if wished.

 

It was recently uploaded to the torrent site that I frequent and I'm downloading it now. 93 whole gigabytes. Seeding is decent but it looks like it's still gonna take 11-14 hours, but it includes all of what's listed below, if you're just looking to download one it'll be a much more manageable 2-3 hours:

This is pretty exciting. In all my years of being a Star Wars fan, since I was a kid, I don't think I've ever seen the very original cuts before. Or if I did, it was such a long time ago that I don't remember it either way.

I have seen comparison videos of all the changes made in the re-releases. Some of them I actually do think were improvements (and others not so much), but either way, it'll be cool to see the original versions. Assuming I can get the download to work, that is. Gonna try it out now. Wish me luck.

 

Well... an update. The seeding and download speed has absolutely fallen off a cliff and we're now looking at 2-3 days before it finishes. I'm hopeful that it'll pick back up but even if it doesn't I've been looking for this for about 5 years, what's another few days?

 

^ Well I just started the download of Episode IV about 15 minutes ago. Guess I'll be waiting quite a while then, haha.

 

I was able to get Star Wars, Empire and half of ROTJ downloaded yesterday. Woke up early this morning and started downloading right away and everything was done within 2 hours. All in all just shy of 10 hours to download everything. Will most likely start watching tonight.

I'm still downloading. The files in themselves haven't been taking that long to download for me. It's just that the website host only lets me download 5GB at a time. Then I have to wait six hours before I can do it again, which means I'm only able to get five of the files at a time.

Oh well. It'll be worth the wait.

 

I just saw the Despecialized Edition for Star Wars 2.7 this evening.

Its superb! Loved it! So clean, so original, vivid colors!

I will download ROTJ 2.5 tomorrow.

I'm trying to find the last version for TESB, the only that I didn't find online.

Every movie has more than 19 gigas.

 

I've successfully downloaded all three movies. For now I'm largely saving it until I do my "Star Wars in chronological order" marathon, but I did preview a few specific scenes and it looks great! Definitely looking forward to this.

 

I've found TESB v2.0. Downloaded and watched tonigh.

Same thing than SW: The best version available out there to download.

Tomorrow I will try to watch ROTJ v2.5.

I think you missed a bit of the point.

Folks full well know I am not entitled, pushy, or rude and that I was writing all of that as a theatrics of what it is like inside the minds of those who find it frustrating, as to show that it is anything other than a) simple, or b) efficient.

The point of it all wasn't to say I couldn't possibly spend the effort to figure out a way through this labyrinth, it is that it is not beneficial or useful in any way to anyone with a simple understanding of the internet (there are quite a number here who would not be able to follow those instructions), and it is also horribly inconvenient for those who could.
I know quite a number of people who never got it because it was too much bother.

A day?
If something can't be accomplished in media obtainment within an hour - from ignorance to obtainment, by a completely inept user, then the distribution method is horribly inefficient and far too obfuscated.

Writing that post took very little effort, by the way.

True to form, however, you have put on a display of the discourse that several have complained about - some in this very thread.

You essentially said, through inversion, that I am too unskilled, ignorant, and rude to follow the directions.

I have copies at this point. And I have made it drop dead easy to get those in a single click for anyone I know.

I wasn't met with a chorus of people saying they already have them.
I was met with a chorus of people cheering and thanking me because they couldn't get them, or had no idea such a thing existed in the first place.

And there were two people I gave it to who needed help understanding how to open a zip file, which I did without pointing out how they can't do something that others can.

I spent a total of a dozen years of my life involved in technical writing, and I have never once encountered a better example of how not to write instructions. And I'm including Microsoft's guides in that, which are a child's book by comparison.

So. You can discuss how it was easy for people you know and how those who can't must lack something in their character to achieve getting it.

That will never change that it is far too obfuscated and complex for people to get who don't know more than Facebook and browsing Netflix.

The despecialized edition remains quite largely for the technically versed and not for those who simply aren't, and there are far more of the latter than the former in the world.

It is frustrating to see Star Wars on one side banned from its original versions, and on the other side behind a technocratic wall.
