My edition arrived last week looking forward to watching everything this weekend. I was in a split mind earlier in the year about whether I was should get the blu-ray edition. I'm glad I waited. The only reason I got this was because it has the extra features, not the 3D as I don't have the TV to do so. Honestly I felt that this edition was necessary, as it was better to have some features rather than no features in the first release.
In later years I'm sure they are going to release it again with even more features, I am still gonna buy it.

In case anyone wanted to know the black border is like rubber, and the image is kinda 3D. That black box is a slip case for the discs which are inside of a book type case.

I like the idea of the commentary being on the disc. I don't care about the 3D version but I'd like to see the bonus deleted scenes on this release. I know they want to make as much money as possible but I wish they would release the Blu Ray one time with everything on the discs. I just hope in the next few years we don't get a Special Edition of TFA.

George Lucas said Star Wars films that he directed could be viewed like silent films. He is a visual director (at least for the prequels haha). I always wanted to watch those films with just the sound track playing in the background(without dialogue). I wish this option was available as it was offered on other dvd sets (not Star Wars). If the new set had this option I would purchase it because I already double dipped by getting Vudu's digital version in advance of the slipcase. I learned my lesson won't do it again for Rogue One, Episode 8 and any future Star Wars films. I will wait. I didn't think they were gonna release another one so soon. My bad... lesson learned.

BTW, is the new system with the competitions clear? When you click on a Competition (either from the forum's menu bar or from the sidebar) and open it, you will see a similar thread like this one but also you will see the question we asked:

    Competitions.png

In this case I've already answered the question and that's why it's not visible. But also keep in mind that you can access the discussion to this Competition from the tab shown with the red arrow.

And don't forget to transfer the credits. :)

Granted I'm not sure why this 3D release warranted such a delay as it's bound to cause upset from fans and buyers who are put off by the double-dip sales techniques, but I'm quietly glad I went with a digital copy of TFA initially and waited for the second physical version. Did anyone else wait? Anyone buying a second copy in 3D despite all the furore?

While I'm hanging out for an insightful commentary from Abrams on the disc, its the Sounds of the Resistance and Inside the Armory features I'm really keen on seeing.

Sound design has always been one of the major elements of the SW universe - sure, you can talk to any non-fan and they've likely heard of R2D2, Chewbacca, lightsabers and TIE fighters, but chances are they'll know what they sound like too, the sounds themselves are iconic. Listen to the opening of Ash's debut album '1977' the TIE scream stands out and immediately throws your mind to the image of one the ships too. Similarly, while they might have had an i-device style makeover, there's no getting away from the white of the stormtrooper armour and (saber aside) the plausibility of the guns and weaponry which are so heavily derived from real world technologies.

I think it would be cool to win the 3d blu ray. I actually have a 3d tv , but I rarely use that feature anymore. I think this release is cool. I think once you wrap your mind around the fact that there will always be another super edition of some product, it is inevitable that you will never have the "definitive" version of the movie in question. I understand how it would be easy to be cynical about releases and repackaging with different content as a "cash grab", but the first release was a quality release in and of itself.

I like the artwork on the copy I got last spring, and as much as it's been watched, I am sure I got my money's worth. It doesn't bother me to get it again.

Well, to be frank I'm a bit disappointed as I already bought the previously released Blu-ray which I did precisely for the special features and the deleted scenes, so this is a bit disappointing that they are releasing basically almost the same thing, but this time with JJ Abrams' commentary (and a 3D disc which at the moment I have no use for)...

Having said that, I will be thrilled to have this Collector's edition and see the movie with the director's commentary. I really enjoyed all the clips they released to promote it and their advertising strategy worked - I now want it badly! There is quite a bit to learn from the commentary it seems, so I really want to see the movie with it.

P.S. Also, I have a question, now, who is this guy @Wuher and why did I just give 200 of my hard earned Cantina credits to him specifically. :p

A bloopers reel would be great to see indeed! And now, one more reason to badly want this Collector's edition.
