    Possible categories where TLJ could get nominations for 2018 academy awards are
    1) BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
    2) BEST VFX
    3) BEST SOUND EDITING
    4) BEST SOUND MIXING

    Steve yedlin's cinematography was top notch in TLJ. However Steve yedlin faces a tough fight from Dan Laustsen (Shape of Water), Michael Seresin (War for the Planet of the Apes), Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049), Rachel Morrison (Mudbound) and Hoyte van hoytema (Dunkirk).

    Shape of Water is turning out to be critics favorite for 2018 BAFTA nominations in various categories.

    For sure they will get nominated for VFX. Sound design would be great too and costume

    Agreed completely with all of you on cinematography, VFX, sound editing and sound mixing. I sincerely hope the academy awards voted TLJ in those categories yesterday. :) A few more weeks and we'll know who got the nominations! :)

    Star Wars: The Last Jedi leads Empire Award 2018 with 9 nominations including Best Film, Best Director ( Rian Johnson ), Best Actor ( John Boyega ) and Best Actress ( Daisy Ridley ).

    Other nominations are for the categories of Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Visual Effects and Best Female Newcomer for Kelly Marie Tran.

    In normal circumstances they would award Mark Hamill for best supporting, but he needs to content with that guy that replaced #metoo Kevin Spacey. The latter will definitely win, though I expect Hamill to get nominated.
