Some interesting news for The Mandalorian has just come to light as of today, as the writers for the second season of the show have been revealed. Though the episode titles remain concealed for the time being, the writers involved give a little bit of insight into the structure of the season.

The Writer's Guild of America website has officially provided the list of writers for The Mandalorian Season 2, and the list boils down to three names: Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Rick Famuyiwa. Filoni and Famuyiwa are both returning as directors from the previous season, and Favreau will be directing the premiere of the second season. Like with the first season, Favreau does most of the heavy lifting with the scripts, penning six of eight episodes: Chapter 9, Chapter 10, Chapter 11, Chapter 12, Chapter 14, and Chapter 16. Filoni wrote a single episode this time - Chapter 13 - much as he wrote the second episode that he directed in the first season, so it can be presumed that he will direct this episode as well. Meanwhile, Famuyiwa is penning Chapter 15, which he will be writing on his own, unlike the first season's Chapter 6 (which he co-wrote with Christoph Yost). It can also be presumed that he will be directing this episode.

Favreau being so involved is unsurprising, given that he's the one who pitched the series and operates as showrunner, but Filoni's placement in the middle of the season invites some speculation. Rosario Dawson's involvement in the new season as Ahsoka Tano is practically an open secret at this point, particularly in light of there being official confirmation from Disney that she's involved with the new season. The character is absolutely important to Filoni, and it seems befitting that he would be the one to introduce her in live-action after doing the same in the field of animation. Meanwhile, Famuyiwa's script could be about anything, but considering its placement as the penultimate episode of the season, it's likely important toward setting up The Mandalorian's second season finale.

Other directors confirmed to be involved with the new season are returning director Bryce Dallas Howard, and new directors Peyton Reed, Robert Rodriguez, and Carl Weathers (who portrays Greef Karga on the show). James Mangold (who is currently circling the fifth and final Indiana Jones movie) is rumored to have been a guest-director for a sequence of an episode, although he has publicly denied that he directed an entire episode. (Mangold previously denied involvement with a Boba Fett-focused film project that was scrapped in favor of The Mandalorian, which features the character.) It remains to be seen if any director will be on double-duty for this season, or if a hypothetical eighth director will come forward as we get closer to this season's arrival.

The first season of The Mandalorian is streaming exclusively on Disney Plus. The second season will debut on Disney+ starting on October 30, 2020. A third season is currently being written by Jon Favreau and is in pre-production for an unknown release window, with a fourth season already being discussed.

I wonder why Filoni is doing episode 5? I feel like it's an important episode then. There's speculation that this is when Ashoka shows up.
