So I know I have opinions on Star Wars that some people don't like, but other than the obvious things like the prequels, do you have an unpopular opinion about the Star Wars Universe.
Try not to repeat opinions that have already been stated, but of course you can discuss someone else's opinion. Please don't take other people's opinions as personal.

    I'll start-

George Lucas got lucky with the first Star Wars movie and if it wasn't for other people around to tell him 'no', Star Wars would be long forgotten.

I voted for Story and Script because these are the foundation to start to create a good movie and I think that was the failure of the prequels.

I too voted for the story and the script. While I don't hate the preques, I'm an OT guy forever, and I still love the prequels. I've felt that the prequels were hobbled by the script. I know some of the acting and the lines was clunky, but I think it was based on the working material. I still got to see the story that i'd only imagined...only I got to see it on the screen, and I was mostly happy about it...still am.

Here's an unpopular opinion: I don't like mace windu, at all. Actually, maybe it's not unpopular, not sure what others think. I think it may be my dislike of samuel l jackson.

Here's an unpopular opinion: I don't like mace windu at all. Maybe it's not that unpopular though- there could be others like me. (it could be due to the I really don't like samuel l jackson)

Unpopular opinion: C-3PO was more annoying than Jar Jar. That DOESN'T mean I hate him though.

A positive unpopular opinion: I wonder what the food Luke ate in Dagobah tastes like... :p

I think C-3PO in the PT was fairly even with Jar Jar. I think the character in general is meant to be annoying intentionally. Jar Jar is just accidentally annoying- which is worse.

I voted for script and music. The story will always be there. I don't think the story was the issue in the prequels, but the script was. Too clunky, did not come together well. The music has to be there though. It's hard to imagine a Star Wars movie without a John Williams score.

Having read and ingested an obscene amount of sci-fi over my life in every kind of medium i find any time they have tried to flush out a Star Wars alien species to at best be 'meh' and at worst be abysmal or downright stupid. this is compounded when they flush out a species based on the few seconds of screen time they had. Ex) all bothans are spies, all hutts are gangsters, etc
Honorable mention:Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina - seriously? WTF NO ONE in this frigging bar is just there to get a drink? everyone has some elaborate backstory or is a special snowflake or has had dealings with someone of the saga. i call total bull blast.

Runner up: settings, ESPECIALLY architecture looks half-assed to me when its all the same style... this is a long lived-in universe. there should be different styles within same settlements ... doubly so when they are large. i WILL say the overall ideas are nice though. its just when its only the one style it looks rather fake and unconvincing. If from now on when you watch the movies you cant help but notice this i feel you have taken your first step into a larger world on appreciating good world building techniques

Bulls-eye, I wholeheartedly agree and concur. It is very unfortunate that we have seen so little new architecture in Rebels and apparentlyTFA (Rebels just hijacked McQuarrie's 1995 designs for Alderaan and recycled these for Lothal, see image below).

I recently thought a lot about the issue. I think George Lucas elegantly circumnavigated the issue with Naboo. Undoubtedly we have plenty of planets with original and ancient building styles, but I'd love to see one with the old and ancient city center surrounded by skyscrapers in the suburbs.

Or have an entire city with solar panel roofs that are all facing the local star.

There is definitely plenty of potential that waits for examination but first you'd need to have producers and/or directors that have a strong interest in exotic architecture (at least Joel Silver is a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, who really did some incredible, beautiful and at times refreshing unorthodox architecture, IMHO).

    two words for ya

    Syd

    Mead

    ;) :D

It's too bad Mœbius (Jean Giraud ) has also passed away
    :(
They should hire Juan Gimenez to draw up some concepts

I wish they would consult Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, or Jack McDevitt for some interesting ideas for aliens, their culture or exotic settings. (I'm still hoping some day they make a movie or mini-series version of The Gripping Hand, The Integral Trees/Smoke Ring, and either Clarke's City & the Stars and/or the Rama Trilogy)

^^ Of course, Syd is a great designer and visionary (met him in 1988, great guy, too) and considering just how many Star Wars designs "borrowed" from his work in Sentinel they could just hire him and copy and paste further designs.

Here is a short list of SW items definitely "inspired" by Syd Mead's depictions in Sentinel:
    • AT-AT Walker
    • Endor landing platform
    • Zam Wesell's Speeder

My unpopular opinion that usually gets haters going is that Boba Fett sucks. I mean, though comics made him Godlike and imortal, in the movies Fett did nothing to earn the adoration and the fanatism of so many people. Apart from doing almost nothing in ESB, Fett was just a dork in ROTJ and has the stupidest death in all the saga. The EU God-Fett would have never been taken down by a blind man with a stick or would he have screamed like a girl when he was in the air or squeeled like a pig when the Sarlacc ate him yet Fett Fans love to come up with tons of excuses to cover this up. I never gave Fett much thought as a kid and liked him even less when the EU gave him Kratos like abilities. What's worst is that Boba Fans are so insanly devoted that even when Fett has been proved dead by canon, they want to beat you to death and tell you that the new Battlefront game makes him canon. Funny how said game has no story mode whatsoever and you can have Palpatine fighting Leia on Endor or Veder fighting Han. Fett sucks so much that even Lucas knew this to be true and apart from giving him the dumbest death ever, Lucas had CW make him a dorky kid that was manipulated by Aurra Sing, got manhandeled by Ventress and finally had him married off to that creepy bird guy Otua Blank.

I need some clarification here. In the parallel bounty hunter thread (because I suggested that Bossk might have escaped during the Sarlacc battle to pursue some unknown plan of his own, there is visual evidence that could suggest that) I was told that Lucas made it clear that everybody died except for the heroes - and Boba Fett.

Personally, I haven't read this statement to verify if he (clarification: George Lucas!) really did say that or not. If somebody can provide it, now would be a good time.

no i said Lucas said Boba survived

You are the one saying there is visual evidence that others besides the heroes survived although, there is not. We see no one escaping the explosion except the heroes on the skiff.

^^ ?!? - That's what I wrote in my post ("I was told that Lucas made it clear that everybody died except for the heroes - and Boba Fett.")

But since you joined and this is apparently a matter of ongoing and heated debate, can you tell us / remember when and where Lucas made that statement?

Lucas says Boba survived and got out of the Sarlacc
Source: Celebration VI - Star Wars Celebration fan convention at Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida August, 2012.

The only characters we currently know to have survived are the heroes.. and Boba
If and when the story group ever says otherwise the survivors of the Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon are: Luke, Han, Leia, Lando, Chewie, R2, C3PO and Boba Fett

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
And for the record I have no 'heat' in this discussion. I only chimed in because i was misquoted.

Don't read more into seeing Dengar, Bossk etc. in RotJ then what it is: It's just a nice little Easter Egg.

It's like the first time you eventually notice in ESB where Han punches the spot over the doorway in the Millennium Falcon to restart it - that it has a dent from so many years hitting the same place. It's little bits added to make the universe seem like a real place. It's just good movie making and good story telling techniques.
