I love this game! Anyone else here play? What are some of your favorite star fighter combos?

I need your help. I signed up for an X-Wing tournament later this month, and I want to know what you think will comprise a solid 100-pt set up.
I typically play Rebels, here's what I own:
    4 X Wings
    2 Y Wings
    1 A Wing
    1 B Wing
    1 HWK 290
    1 Millenium Falcon

I have many imperial fighters as well but I am not going to use them (but I have the upgrade cards to use).

I have X-Wing, and I picked up the Millennium Falcon and Rebel Aces expansions, but I've not had a chance to
play yet. Been reading the quick start and complete instructions/rules, and it looks like it's going to be a blast.

I also picked up Imperial Assault. Very impressive. Fantasy Flight puts out some great stuff.

My wife got me the game for Christmas. I have the starter pack only. We had only one game and I enjoyed it, although it was a bit frustrating when we started chasing each other in circles. I guess we need some expansions. :)

Fantasy Flight has a new expansion due out 2nd quarter of 2015 called Imperial Raider, and it looks like one of the best expansion sets yet.

It includes the new Raider Class Corvette, a unique newly painted TIE X-1, and all the other goodies shown-

This is too cool to pass up, so I had my local gaming shop pre-order me one.

I picked up the YT-2400 Freighter X-Wing expansion set yesterday. I usually re-paint the larger ships, but this one is
very nicely done, and will be left as is. They play X-Wing at the local Game Shop every Thursday night now, and I'm
looking forward to going tomorrow night. I'm still very much a novice, so it should be interesting!

Here are some pics of the YT-

Fantasy Flight has announced a couple of cool new X-Wing expansions.

    Imperial Assault Carrier-

    Star Field Playing Board Tiles-

These are both must-have items for me. I especially like the Assault Carrier with TIE Fighters.

I would start with the standard set, which includes one X-Wing and 2 Ties. It is pretty balanced by itself and fun to play with a friend. If you enjoy it, you can decide where to go from there.

In fact you could probably go to a local game shop and see if they have any sets to play, so you can test it out for yourself first before making a purchase

Darthdaniel has given you sound advice.

To add to that, there are two X-Wing Miniatures core sets. You only need one to get started. One is the original set which has OT ships, characters, and artwork. Core set #2 is The Force Awakens edition, which has the new ships, art and characters. Although the details and some of the materials in the new set are different from the old, the two sets are more or less interchangeable. You can buy the new TFA Core Set, and still use it with the older ship expansion sets. It's 100% compatible.

If you end up liking the game, and want to buy an expansion or two, I find the boxed expansion sets to be a better overall value than the blister pack single ships. The boxed expansions give you more bang for the buck. My favorite is the Rebel Aces set. It comes with an A-Wing, B-Wing, stands, and all the necessary cards and other materials. The Most Wanted expansion is another good one, consisting of bounty hunter/pirate versions of the Y-Wing and Z-95.

X-Wing is addictive fun, and the miniatures themselves are gorgeous.

Here's the T-70 and First Order TIE Fighters that come with the TFA Core set-

    tfa-x-wing-mini.JPG tfa-x-wing-mini (5).JPG

And these are the ships that come with the Rebel Aces Expansion-

    b-wing (2).JPG a-wing (1).JPG

If you really get into the game, there are other larger expansion sets. The Tantive IV and Imperal Raider ships are over a foot long, and nicely detailed. In most miniature based games, the miniatures are often not the same scale, but in X-Wing, all the ships are 1/285 scale. Put an X-Wing next to the Tantive IV and you get a real idea just how big (and small) some of the ships in the SW universe are.

I go through phases of playing this. I love the game, but every time there is a break from playing it for a while, I find the thought of starting another game almost too stressful. Once I get over that hurdle, I'm fully back into it again.

I should probably get a new ship. I've had my eye on Kylo Ren's shuttle for too long now.

More of an Imperial Assault player myself, but I'd say it all comes down to taste.

With Legion there's a lot more assembly, and nothing comes pre-painted. I'd say it's a lot more of a hobby game than X-Wing is. Plus, it's a lot easier to lay down a star map for terrain in X-Wing than it is to build Legion terrain.

So x wing come pre painted? I’m not sure at the moment. I like painting a building miniatures. I used to make and play warhammer 40k. Does the starter sets for each of these contain rules and instructions? Or do you have to buy additionally?

Legion and X Wing both have a core set (X-Wing actually has an "updated" Force Awakens core set that you'd probably want if you want the most current ruleset).

Outside of that, you can really purchase any expansion packs you like.

X-Wing does indeed come prepainted, as does Armada I believe (with the exception of fighter squadrons in Armada, as far as I know).

I'd say 40 K would be a lot more similar to Legion, if that's what you're into.

I first bought the Outrider YT-2400 as it is one of my favourite ships and it was the only model of that ship I could find. I then bought Millennium Falcon and the Millennium falcon (Rectangular dish) resistance pack. I've never played the game but it does looks like fun, I only bought them as I like the models.

I'm looking forward to the new "Solo" version of the Millennium Falcon.
