For the most part I enjoy watching SW videos on Youtube; some bring a unique perspective, might learn something new and many are just entertaining etc , however . I do applaud these Youtubers for making something out of their passion for Star Wars.

While I would never s*** on anyone I did come across one particular video this morning that made me go, "holy cow" but I immediately came down from the high the moment I saw who it was. Really disappointed to be honest..

Am all for people making extra cash on a side hustle, or SW being their bread and butter, but am surprised that in our current era of political correctness and "fake news" that Youtube/Google never shut this person down, as she/her continuously makes stuff up , all while apparently making a good amount of change for his/her efforts in the process.

Preying on SW fans w/ made up content for the purpose of generating clicks... am not sure if am disgusted or just disappointed.

    Cheers, KH

I stop watching them, because even if it's a level headed, intelligent or fair minded. You still get the cranks, and trolls and in general childish people who just fill up the comment section with their garbage, and I don't need that level of toxicity. for some reason YT has not provided a block feature for general users. And for some reason, unlike Reddit there is no block feature general users. I mean it's there for up-loaders., where people can't see the remarks. But not for people who just want to watch videos.

A lot of the Star Wars videos that get big are clickbait and grifting unfortunately. Hating on whatever the new stuff is has and will probably continue to be more profitable than producing quality content.

A prime example of this is the biggest SW Youtuber, Star Wars Theory. I don’t have any ill-will against the guy running the channel, and while I’m glad that he seems like an actually decent and passionate person, I can’t stand the channel itself. His clickbaity content draws in a lot of toxic fans. It doesn’t help that he constantly fuels the fire within the fandom by jumping the gun and spreading misinformation at every turn by blaming everything on Disney. He also favorites comments that hate on Disney or Kathleen Kennedy a lot. Insteas of using his power for good and uniting fans, he goes out of his way to cater toxic fans, especially toxic fans of the prequels.

You get the picture. Besides SWT, most popular Star Wars related content on the platform is garbage, clickbait, or flat out falsehoods anyway. I’m not even getting into that Fandom Menace nonsense.

As with all things though, there is a light side to Star Wars Youtubers. Some still make great content without resorting to clickbait or overblown Disney hatred. Here are a few that I still favor:
    • Star Wars Explained
      • Makes great lore videos, clearly distinguishes facts and speculation, keeps videos unbiased, and the hosts of the channel are just genuinely nice, fun people!
    • HelloGreedo
      • Speaks his mind freely, articulates his thoughts really well, has nuance in his views, plenty of humor, sarcasm, and skits to be found, and is also a really chill person.
    • Battlefront Updates
      • Great for keeping update on Star Wars games, is really good at playing them, and he produces quality content in general!
    • Jenny Nicholson
      • Not strictly a Star Wars channel, and I don’t always agree with her or her takes, but she’s so quirky and fun to watch that I don’t care!
    • Auralnauts
      • Produces hilarious Star Wars videos and parodies. They have their own dub of Episodes 1-6 that is simultaneously one of the funniest and coolest things I’ve ever watched on the internet.
    • Star Wars News Net
      • A site that we’re all very familiar with I’m sure. :) The Resistance Broadcast is great and they have other cool content as well!
    • AT-AT Chat
      • Don’t really watch him anymore, but his content is very good quality and he has a lot in common with HelloGreedo.

Except for the ones Hero With No Fear mentioned, I don't like many SW youtubers. Most just have videos with clickbait titles like "Why Palpatine and Yoda were Secretly Best Friends!" or something like that.

Jedi Council on Collider was the only Star Wars thing on YouTube I watched with any sort of regularity. I occasionally watch the odd video from Star Wars Explained, but that’s it.

The others I’ve come across are just clickbaity garbage.

I honestly think that back in 2008, the YouTubers weren't this toxic, or at least clickbaity. There were the YTPs, the creative flash videos, spoofs, etc. Confused Matthew, and then Red Letter Media in 2009.

Personally, I find it a bit weird that Mauler and co. are stalking others' videos, even Anomaly Inc. went back and tried to re-review The Phantom Menace Review by Confused Matthew, which was done in 2008, and I believe that others in Anomaly's chat were calling Matthew a Disney shill. Yet it was a review done in 2008. Granted, it was re-uploaded in 2017, but it was still done way before the Disney merger.

I also thought that Matthew did a good job on calling out the flaws and issues in the prequels, but now others are defending the prequels, which is fine, but seems to be a bit revisionist history, if you ask me.

Like, if I were to make a video defending TLJ though dissecting ROTJ's flaws, will Mauler and co. come after my videos? If I say that I think that Luke is weaker as a hero in ROTJ than in TLJ, will try bash my video, even if I find good evidence for my arguments?

Mauler would make a video about how your argument is “objectively wrong” and the length of the video would be as long as ROTJ and TLJ combined. ;)

Also, what the hell is the deal with all of Mike Zeroh’s videos about Brie Larson being a part of Star Wars? She auditioned for Rogue One and posted about Galaxy’s Edge a few times.

Oh, I'm sure Mike knows that videos about her will get rage views from a certain side of the internet.

I used to watch some Star Wars Explained, Thor Skywalker, Stupendous Wave, etc... but some of them got kinda toxic after a while.

One of my favorite series though was Star Wars explained Lore Play. Just kind of a fun way to learn a bit of lore while also watching some gameplay.

I remember when Thor Skywalker was still pretty optimistic and far less clickbaity. Now, his videos are just full of spite, and not even the good kind!

I haven't watched a video by him in a while, but he used to be really good! Did he just turn clickbaity, or is he now one of the spiteful ones too?

Looked it up and my jaw dropped seeing the amount of $$$ he made off YouTube. With the right accountant he's set for life.

I don't mean to throw the baby out with the bathwater... I'm kinda disillusioned with Star Wars Youtube as a whole right now, but I'm not sure Stupendous is particularly problematic.

As you mentioned, Thor was probably one of the more extreme examples.

Star Wars Youtubers are what got me back into Star Wars right before the release of The Force Awakens. I remember I was having pizza for lunch and a video from The Stupendous Wave popped up in my recommendations. I watched that video, and then a few more, and then before I knew it I ended up basically blowing an entire weekend on theory and speculation videos from him and SWT. I used to love them. I was also a religious watcher of Jedi Council on Collider as well as some others. Then a few years ago when discussing Star Wars stopped being fun, I also stopped watching most of those videos. It also didn't help that the thoughts and opinions of a lot of these people were no longer aligning with my own, not a total deal breaker but I wasn't going to waste my time watching someone talk down on something that I really liked. Nowadays I don't really watch anything from anybody. Every now and then I'll check out a SWT video if it's about anything other than this current era of Star Wars, and maybe a HelloGreedo video, but that's about it.

If SuperShadow was a Youtuber back on launch day he'd be living on his own private Caribbean island by now.

I used to watch plenty more but Star Wars Explained is my only regular watch. Hello Greedo gets some views from me, too.

Stupendous Wave and Star Wars Theory were channels I used to watch, but stopped around the time of TLJ.

While not specific to Star Wars, I would like to throw in two more suggestions to this really solid list:
    • Spacedock
      • Professionally put together videos analyzing the starships of various Sci-fi franchises, Star Wars included. Also does more editorial style videos discussing design choices made for certain ships, both from an artistic and practical perspective.
    • EC Henry
      • Analyzes and discusses various topic regarding, primarily, Star Wars and Star Trek. Also has some insanely fun/interesting videos where he either creates concept ships within Star Wars or brings to life some of the low detail, background ships while creating lore for them.

    HelloGreedo is probably my favorite.
    SWE up there too.
No nonsense. Don't peddle in bantha poodoo rumors or click bait.

SWT is a petty drama queen out for clicks and add revenue. He's not above attacking SWE because they get books early or invited to Galaxy's Edge.

SWT’s behavior reminds me of this Eric Andre meme:

    upload_2020-9-13_9-51-39.jpeg

He constantly spews negativity about current Lucasfilm, but is shocked when he doesn’t get “special treatment” like the other content creators. And he thinks that the reason why is because “he speaks his mind” and Disney doesn’t like that?

The funniest part of all of his bitterness towards SWE is because Alex politely called him out for that exact reason a few years ago. If you all recall, variants of the character posters from Solo were released with the guns edited out of them. This change was made because certain regions aren’t allowed to have weapons brandished in posters there, so these variants were made to accommodate those places. Clickbait connoisseurs (as I like to call them) like Star Wars Theory immediately assumed that this was Disney trying to be politically correct and were questioning if this was a sign that they were going to change the very fabric of Star Wars. Obviously this wasn’t true and Alex from SWE made a video where he told SWT that as the biggest Star Wars Youtuber, he should do proper research and not spread misinformation by jumping the gun and making illogical assumptions when the real answer is out there. Star Wars Theory got really bent out of shape about this and called it an act of “malice”. Evidently, he still hasn’t gotten over it.

This one pads his videos so much with pre-amble that it's like he / she / they have some 10000 word essay comp they are trying (badly) to win -
