Apologies in advance if this has/is being discussed in another thread, I hadn't really seen much along these lines. I am not even sure this is worth its own thread, so please feel free to merge it if appropriate...
I am struck by the idea that Starkiller Base serves as a sort of metaphor for the Darkside and the transformation of Ben Solo/Kylo Ren. Starkiller gains its power by literally draining the light from the sun, reaching its peak of destructive power once the last bit of light is gone. We see the struggle of light and dark in the son, Ben Solo, as he seeks to become more powerful by rejecting the light and embracing the darkness. As Starkiller takes the last of the sun's light, leaving Ben/Kylo in literal darkness, he also has the last of the light drawn from him as he kills his father and completes his transition to the dark side. During the Starkiller attack, Poe says something to the effect that "As long as there is light, there is still hope", and with the last light gone from Kylo, he, like the weapon, is now ready to unleash his full destructive potential.

Yup, It's like poetry .. it kinda rhymes after each stanza.

But yes, I think this is how this scene is meant to pan out, that scene.. where all we is is red on his face. It's great!
