Somewhere, Revell's graphic design team are being ushered into a trash compactor, even as we debate this :D

With this trailer out now, I say we’re going in for a second round of analyzing this stuff.

What I found most prominent was the high number of old school AT-AT that could be seen from the first glimpse on Kylo until later.

    Vehicl_Trailer2_01.jpg

    Vehicl_Trailer2_02.jpg

Which came together with AT-ST, but those where modified versions (e.g. the viewport) compared to those in use on Endor.

    Vehicl_Trailer2_03.jpg

    Vehicl_Trailer2_04.jpg

Interesting that only the old walkers showed up so much in hanger scenes, while on the ground they can be spotted walking in union with their big AT-M6 brothers.

    Vehicl_Trailer2_05.jpg

And then there is the predecessor amalgamation of two of my most liked capital vessels: The hybrid of the Nebulon-B Frigate and Hammerhead corvette.

    Vehicl_Trailer2_06.jpg

And another new fella could also be spotted.

    Vehicl_Trailer2_07.jpg

The Resistance seems to have new passenger transports that remind me a bit of the old GR-75 medium transport with their rounded shape, but the new ones look much smaller. While the GR-75 was more for hauling containers, the new ones seem to have nice view ports for the passengers.

    Vehicl_Trailer2_08.jpg

    Vehicl_Trailer2_09.jpg

Of course there are also these Mon Calamari style ships.

    Vehicl_Trailer2_10.jpg

    Vehicl_Trailer2_11.jpg

I too enjoy the view on the resistance bombers seen from behind while attacking that FO Dreadnought.

    Vehicl_Trailer2_12.jpg

All in all, this trailer has to offer much for a guy being fascinated with the vehicles of that galaxy far far away since early childhood.

Good work @Star Dude - I hadn't noticed the old school AT-ATs in the hangar shot!

Those walkers are literally swarming all over those places. You can even see them walk around.
    waTR2_lkers.jpg

Something I like very much is putting the 4-legged versions into size relations.
    waTR2_walkers.jpg

It seems to be a big battle going on inside a FO installation were those new AT-ST are deployed (and destroyed) within that environment. Most probably when Finn and Rose have infiltrated that base/Mega Star Destroyer.
    battle_Hangar.jpg
Could be the same location Rey meets Snoke by the way, such as on board the Supremacy.

Good catch! I thought when looking at the trailer that it was a normal Destroyer viewed from the side, but it’s half of the Supremacy’s silhouette shown from the front!

Almost the same square area as Indianapolis or Madrid just on one level.

But what really makes me wonder – why should that mother of all Star Destroyers show up for a space battle if not because the battle was taken to were that mega destroyer was initially.

So I think these scenes might not take place in the beginning of the movie when D’Qar is attacked, the resistance evacuate and the base most likely will be leveled by the FO Dreadnought. It might happen more close to the end when the climax includes Finn and Rose fighting inside the hangars of the Supremacy, while Rey is there with Snoke and the Radus with Leia on board gets attacked by Kylo’s TIE Silencer.

Or, it is at the initial space battle to show the might of the FO and to crush also the spirit of the resistance and the remaining republic forces.

    December will tell.

As @marciopfilho brought it up elsewhere (https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....edi-trailer-is-here.52869/page-20#post-416131), these might really be escape pods and not small passenger transports!

The Supremacy IS firing at them from afar when they seem to flee the (climatic) last space battle?!

I'm glad we are getting a better variety of ships and vehicles this time around- as opposed to TFA, which felt miniscule and barren.

    That’s indeed a great find @Rieekan!

I was wondering since 33 years how they get these beasts to the ground, not really satisfied what was offered in early history with those undefined, none-canon landing barges from the West End Games RPG that were later also Used by Lucas Arts in the games “Force Commander” and “Empire at War” .

    ATAT_landing_01.jpg

In AoTC and the clone wars, finally the first drop ships for walkers were introduced on a big screen.
    ATAT_landing_02.jpg

And later on, in Rebels we learned that the Gozanti-class cruisers at least were able to carry two AT-AT into battle.
    ATAT_landing_03.jpg

But now the First Order seems to have drop ships that are able to carry six new AT-AT at the same time into battle.
    ATAT_new.jpg

Look at the silhouette of the ESB AT-AT and the new ones from the FO: Maybe it’s just me, but the later seem to have a modified silhouette, just as the new AT-ST walkers.

    ATAT_old.jpg

    ATAT_new2.jpg

The back looks not as high as the old model, the cockpit looks more sleek and the (front) legs seems to be more massive in the lower section, even the joints seems located lower to the ground and to be a smaller target. Also I can’t see such a long neck part as with the original ones. They have more in common with the model used during rebels.

    ATAT_new3.jpg

So the First Orders does not just re-uses older Empire designs, but has the AT-ST and the AT-AT updated to current mission profiles it seems.

Hm, meanwhile I think these rounded escape pods are too Mon Calamari style to be launched from the Supremacy. My feeling is, that these are abandoning the Radus Mon Cal Cruiser while a certain TIE Silencer and that Mega Star Destroyer see that it gets destroyed.

My guess is that Kylo and his wingbuddies will try to disable the Raddus' shields. In the footage you see external explosion impacting (almost like little nukes) on an invisble surface even while Kylo is attacking the ship at close quarters.

My guess is that they'll either use the older AT-AT's as command vehicles or apc's (i.e. trooptransports) and the AT-M6's as selfpropelled guns.

Edit: it is funny to see how after two films the first order has five different types of walkers, four types of fighters, three types of capital ships, an armoured 'snow' speeder, an armoured lander and two different shuttles. They really thought out the first order hardware.

I think in the downtime, that funny factor is a result of a production crew that had no real single direction were too went, especially as there was nothing planed beyond TFA in the beginning. They took a bit of this and that, had two totally different directors picking from the designs…

With the AT-AT, I would use them as auxiliary troops, heavy scouts, skirmishers and flankers for those massive, heavy artillery M6 walkers. They soften up enemy lines and test defenses (especially from the flanks), and provide point protection for their big brothers while the big guys could concentrate and their artillery role. Something like the AT-ST’s were for the original AT-AT’s.

Would be interesting what the walking speed comparison brings up between a new AT-AT and the AT-M6.

What I find interesting is the sheer number of those old style AT-AT that are shown in the trailer, those drop ships and the ceiling racks stuffed with them are everywhere!

I’m totally with you on this! But you’re sure you wanted to post it in this thread?!

Anyway, we hadn’t any sign yet of those TIE bombers “promised” us on that concept art. Ireally hope they will make it past design status!

    Edit: typo

Yeah, where are those tie bombers? It could be that they appear in other media. Star Wars Battlefront features 3 fighter classes: interceptors, fighters and bombers. However we don't know anything about the First Order's and Resistance's bomber variants.

So if we would sum up all the walker variants. What would each their respective function be?

So these ‘Resistance Bombers’ are called B/SF-17 heavy bomber, which still does not sound very striking to me. I wonder, what’s the manufacturing company behind them.

At least the cockpit and the gun pods look a bit like something the Corellian Engineering Corporation could come up with.

Thant’s a very sound compilation my friend!

I never got into those two walker designs found on Starkiller base. With the lack of a cockpit, they look to me as being drone-like perimeter defense system for bases.

As for the First Order Heavy Scout Walker, I really hope they dropped it. Either you want a light vehicle for scouting, or you make it heavy for assault. Giving it 8 legs in such a configuration wouldn’t make it much versatile in rough terrain. You would have to place them in a star like manner as craps or spiders have it, not in two lines.

So maybe it will end up like this:
    • FO/AT-ST Recon, scout and skimish
    • FO/AT-AT Light assault, point defense, flanking
    • FO/AT-M6 Heavy assault, artillery
