Did anyone notice the giant statue of Maz Kanata on a pedestal outside of Maz's castle (before it was blown up, of course.) I kind of wondered why the statue was there.

The statue seems to have human-like body proportions, as opposed to Maz's short, Yoda-like stature and body proportions. She also has her arms out and head slightly tilted up (I believe), which gave me the impression it was trying to give the show that she is the "master of these lands."

But when we meet Maz, this doesn't seem to portray her actual attitude, at all. While she's certainly in charge around the castle, she doesn't have any of the vain-ness or arrogance that seems to be portrayed by the statue. She seems down-to-earth and knowledgeable (1,000+ years will do that to someone.)

So, what is this statue trying to portray? The obvious answer is she is over-compensating for her short stature. But, she doesn't seem like the type that cares about how short she is or how "odd" she may look, so she doesn't seem to want to over-compensate. So what does it mean?

My thought is that somewhere along the line a patron made that for her just in kindness or in gratitude. 1,000 years is a long time... surely an artist or two visited her castle.

I reckon it was one of those unwanted Xmas gifts, the kind you have to put up, cos the giver of said gift is always round your place. So you could say, it shows her humble and appreciative side of not letting people down.

Interesting... It would show her humbleness and appreciation for what she's been provided. That could fit her character pretty well.

I could see it. The patron flies it to her Castle and presents it to her. I can see her kind of going, "Oh... Ummm... Thanks... Sure I'll make it the centerpiece of my castle. I'll get right on that..." Then 300 years down the line, it starts to grow on her, so she decides to put it up. Unfortunately, that patron has long since passed on... So he'll never get to see it in its full glory... Maz is such a meanie. :p

Age could also have something to do with it. People can get shorter or smaller with age, and we're only speaking of about 100 years here. Could be possible for her species to get smaller with age like that.

Who knows, maybe in her heyday she was some pretty hot stuff?

I guess we don't know what Maz looked like 600 years ago, or much about her species. (At least I don't. I haven't read any of the supplemental "new cannon" materials, yet.) It is entirely possible her species grows until a certain age, then starts shrinking. She does look younger and less wrinkly in the statue.

Uh-oh! I think we just started a new category of fan-fiction for Rule 34... Way to go... :p

Hm, well she's 1000 years or so. Maybe... mmm... the 200s? That's probably like our 20s.

On that note, I wonder if Yoda was ever considered a studmuffin... I know there's a (staff?) member here who once sported a youngish Yoda avatar.

I think Maz is a pretty feisty character and that statue is a little bit of a joke on everyone else. And also a warning that you mess with the Maz at your own peril.

Who says Leia is the only Princess in Star Wars. Maybe Maz was royalty at one time.

We have pleny of statues of people. Doesn't mean they are vain. Okay I'll let you in on the story. 400 years ago Maz landed on the planet. A dark Jedi had set himself up as a dictator. She defeated him and the people made her a castle and statue as thanks.

Or a tyrant. That statue looks fit for a tyrant. If she is 900 years old she must have gone vain at some point, at least for a few years. She is now in the phase "I will show you humility, I will serve drinks myself in my own fricking castle".
