That's actually not a bad idea! The Rebellion obviously trusted him (for some reason), so it's not out of the question that he could eventually become the big guy in charge. I mean he has the charisma for it for sure.

 

Lando is definitely making a appearance.

The man will be pissed his best mate bit the dust. He'll want retribution just like everyone else.

 

I thought it was confirmed in the books that Mon Mothma leads the Senate

 

I'd rather see Lando as the general in charge of whatever's left of the republic's fleet.

I like this idea and would be quite happy for it to turn out to be true.

Having it be Daala would be slightly less amazing just for the sheer face-palming hilarity of it.

 

I think he should stick with his day job as Baron Administrator of Coud City they love him there, plus I know I'm bring back eu hope but that's what he did after TROTJ, we don't need him trying the top job in politics, he would spend his days playing sabaac on a hologram while a debate goes on. This is what will happen to him, he'll get stepped on.

 

She could still be alive, but if the Republic is more democratic than the Empire, she wouldn't hold office 30 years later.

 

I have thought since the announcement of Episode VII that Lando should be galactic president. He was a smuggler and politician who sold out his best friend in Episode V, a general in episode VI and it would make his overall character arc very interesting if by Episode VIII he was the leader of the Republic.

 

Although I have nothing against Lando as a character, but based on his interviews and presence I kinda wish they would not bring him back. All of the interviews seem to be train wrecks when it comes to Star Wars related questions and oppinions. As a person he seems to be in some non-star wars galaxy far far away to me.
Before TFA premiered I had serious doubts about Carrie Fisher knowing how she is now after all the struggles drugs and medication. And what she did in the movie as an actor wasn't very spectacular, and we probably were lucky that she didn't play a bigger role in it.
Hamill had a fraction of Fisher's face time and to me his character said more and expressed way more emotion than Fisher. Actors like Hamill and Ford did great because they're still on top of their game, but Fisher and Williams as unfortunate as it is are not.
So in that sense I hope we don't have to see Williams return to the role. Of course I could be totally wrong, but would I like to give him a chance and risk it? No. As Star Wars fans I think we are entitled to great acting/storytelling/scoring and anything else would just feel out of place just like in the prequels.

I believe that Lando and Bespin and likely Cloud City will feature somewhere into the story of Episode VIII.

 

I reckon Bespin is in First Order territory.

FWIW, this is an awesome idea.

Lando was, after all, the leader of a city. It would be great to see this old pirate become Supreme Chancellor!

 

Didn't the official Star Wars livestream of the premiere have the reporters interview BIlly Dee & ask him if he was coming back?

They totally planned that.

 

It would be awesome to see Lando the head of the new Republic or whatever they call it, or whatever form it might be. It would be an interesting idea that i would support.

 

Actually, according to the novelization of the film, "Supreme" was dropped from the title (due to Palpatine).
