Hi All, I know it seems little far away but good news for us European SW Fans...

A very close source to me has confirmed that Lucasfilm/Disney will be hosting the Star Wars Celebration 2019 at London's ExCel Centre - this is the same venue that was used for Celebration 2016.

The source said that the event will likely be booked for April 8th - 14th (so weekend of 12th, 13th, 14th for the actual event). However, the dates still could change but it looks like it's a definite for April.

I'm skeptical, no offense but its because of your "very close source" that you can't name. The dates conside with past Celebrations, so I guess it makes sense.

@Bligh ...ooh, April date is interesting. SWCE 2016 was July wasn't it? I wonder if they want it to happen ahead of a release of some kind... Episode IX is likely to be another Christmas 2019 release, so could it be Filoni's new animated show or could LfL be switching movies back to May dates (a la Solo)?

Or there'll be a D23 in Summer 2019 and Disney doesn't want to cannibalize the audiences for their two biggest conventions, especially if they're nine thousand kilometres apart. ;)

April 2019 is an absolute no-brainer, because it will match the start of TFA and TLJ promotion cycles. The interesting piece of news (if true) is that it's gonna be in London. I thought that they would want to have this particularly huge Celebration in the US. And I'm saying particularly huge, because I have no doubts that's where the first IX teaser will drop and the first details of the upcoming projects will be revealed. It's also going to take place 2 years after the last celebration and almost a year after Solo, which is quite a gap. The fans will be starving for new stuff at that point.

I agree. I thought it was a little odd myself... I thought it'd be in Anaheim to coincide with the opening of Galaxy's Edge, but I think that's later on into the year - closer to D23 - which makes more sense to me now.

Yeah, I have a feeling they might want the May window but the film is still scheduled for December 2019.

Wow, if true, ballsy move. Considering it's likely to be a big trailer release for the last trilogy movie, i thought US celebration was a lock.

@Bligh any information from source as to when ExCel might start their marketing blitz?

I was of the same mind mate! I was shocked. This isn't confirmed or even from the source but I do wonder if there is some sort of deal being made with the SW films being made in the UK and Lucasfilm agreeing to host a Celebration in the UK every 'x' years. It would make sense.

In regards to the marketing blitz there is no info. My source said they're just deciding on the dates as ExCel are pretty much locking in most of next year's calendar. Keep in mind that Disney also uses the ExCel centre for events and to film sometimes, so it all makes a lot of sense.

As a veteran of UK Celebrations at the ExCel centre, I would advise you not to go, because you WILL be disappointed and have a hole burned in your pocket/wallet/purse by an event you'll wish you didn't bother going to, because it was a huge letdown, cheaply produced and boring.

But if you enjoy spending money and treat London Celebrations purely as a large Star Wars merchandise selling event, then you won't be disappointed.

There will be lots of booths/vendors with hugely overpriced merch. Particularly from Germany, for some unknown reason. The Germans and German booths are easy to identify, you will hear them before you see them.

London Celebrations are always done very cheaply and in a half-hearted way, with not many activities going on. There might be a face painter, or a display of sword fighting if you're lucky. But If you are used to US style Celebrations in Anaheim and Florida, you WILL be disappointed.

Very few people actually bother with wearing costumes and cosplay, because cosplay isn't a thing in the UK, because we Brits have a sense of embarrasment that other countries don't.

Anthony Daniels will be on the stage as per usual and repeat all his same tired old stories of his illustrious career in Star Wars in that annoying smug self-important attitude he has.

Bored looking former cast members wheeled out of retirement homes charging extortionate prices for a scribble on a poster or photograph. And usually in silence because "actors dont talk to fans".

There are never any screen used props, costumes, or models from the films at London Celebrations. Ever. People interested in the film making process of Star Wars films should avoid this event.

There are never any big exclusives or reveals at London Celebrations, because LFL keep those exclusively for US Celebrations, because there's a "other countries don't matter" attitude to non US Celebration events by Lucasfilm.

They usually open mid mornings and close late afternoons before it gets dark.

It will rain. UK Celebrations are never held in August, the only dry time of the year.

Oh, and 501 Stormtrooper members, don't bring you blaster rifles on the tube/DLR for the ride to the ExCel, because the British Transport Police will pounce on you for even carrying a toy weapon.

Wow, someone doesn't like Anthony Daniels. Regardless of what you think of his personality, obviously he cares enough about the SW fan base to show up and "repeat all his same tired old stories".

Spent 1 day at Celebration 2016 in London. We were on way back home from vacation. Unless they have an additional wing to the venue then the ExCel Centre is just to small.

The main venue where the big panels were held was good size so that is good. For the remainder of the panels it was awful. Lets talk about the layout. The space had a main hallway with food vendors etc. Then a left and right side. One side was dominated with main queue to get in and security. The other side was the exhibit hall and panel space.

The problem was that other then the big panels the others were inside the Exhibit hall. Basically rooms made by curtains with queues managed by tape on the floor. So you queued up in the same place people were looking at shopping, vendors, art, autographs, etc. etc. So unlike other venues the Exhibit hall was always totally packed. It was hard to breathe because people didnt leave to go to panels.

So for a Celebration that is going to have more content then likely any before it I am afraid it would be a nightmare.

Is this rumour based on the Celebration that is being held in Chicago (meaning not in London)?!

Looks like it isn't going to be in London anyway and my source was wronnggggggg.

But either way - dude, you are so bitter lol. I loved SW Celebration 2016 in London.. and you're wrong about a lot of what you said. They had loads of props from Rogue One on display - some things we'd never seen before!

I was in the Rogue One panel and I loved it. Seeing the whole RO cast with Kathy Kennedy and Gareth Edwards was amazing! I also got to see Mark Hamill in his own panel which was great fun! Some of my friends went to the Rebels panel and they saw some of the new episodes of the *then* new season of Rebels.

I met some of the writers from some of the SW Marvel comics I read. The Future Film-makers panel was amazing too.

We tried out an amazing VR experience and loads more on the trading sections.

It's like we went to totally different conventions :D. Then again I've always been a glass half full optimist :)

Me too... I took my (then 8yr old) daughter and we had a great time. We were in the RO and Rebels panels, but watched the Hamill/Fisher one on the screen in the main arena next to the full size TIE fighter. We cosplayed, got pics with other cosplayers, went to Warwick's signing session and did the VR X-wing thing.

My presiding memory is my mate Matt texting me on the Monday to say he'd got so hot in his Wampa costume that he'd sweated off 5lbs at the event too! :D
