Tatooine

I don't know if they'd actually do this series, but I bet it's just the kind of premise they'd consider: something that could be done in a single kind of environment, so they could do it on a TV budget. In fact, if it's filmed out of Hollywood, there's a long tradition of filming things in the deserts surrounding LA. This seems like the biggest challenge of a live action Star Wars series: how do you do it on a TV budget? Especially given the heavy reliance of live action Star Wars on flashy special effects.

Another option would be to film somewhere with a currency whose value is low in comparison with the USD, and where the local government would be eager to give the production tax deals and permits with open arms out of eagerness to attract the economic benefits of such a production: e.g. what Game of Thrones has accomplished by filming in Croatia. That show has a big budget for a TV show, but even with that budget, it wouldn't have been possible to get something with such an epic scale if they'd tried to film in LA or even Vancouver or Toronto...

The original Tatooine was filmed in Tunisia, between Matmata (Sidi Driss hotel used for Owen&Beru Lars home), Nefta, Tozeur (canyon where Luke meets Ben) and Tataouine (that gave the name Tatooine). Mos Espa (TPM) decorum is still standing in the desert, somewhere between Tozeur and Nefta.
- would be interesting to have a long-era movie, from far before TPM to far after EP 9, see the evolution of the people...
- would be awesome to see a Krayt Dragon living, and not only his bones (one say the skeleton we see in ANH, when 3PO and blip-blop crash on Tatooine, before they meet the Jawas, is still standing somewhere in the desert).
- there's also something in ANH, during this scene, something that appears from the sand and has two antennas, I never knew what it is... could be explained.
- could explain what happened to the pod races after the empire rose? (in Luke's time, seems to have no more podraces on Tatooine)

(edi) start Google Earth. Go to Tunisia. Search "Tozeur". Nefta is on south-east from Tozeur and you should probably be shown a 360 PIC which name is clear enjoy the view

 

Very neat idea, I'd like this.
I think there should be at least some space travel in the show, but the focus could very much be Tatooine (think Lothal in Rebels season 1).

In fact, Tatooine works pretty well for this. It's sort of a travel hub in its area, so even episodes where we'd stay on the surface would be pretty diverse in regards to creatures/aliens we'd see and plotlines that are possible.

I wouldn't mind for it to be a somewhat gritty take, too. Think a smuggler very much inspired by the "Han shot first" crowd. Someone immersed in Tatooine's underworld who has a bone to pick with Jabba, but doesn't mind getting his hands dirty in the process.

 

something kind of a western : the Jabba clan getting over Gardulla clan for the control of the spice and races and bets and so on...

 

Throw in some Cad Bane and I'm totally sold.
