People can find themselves strangers in a land that's only a day's journey from home and no longer theirs. Tattooine's a big planet. Things are spread out.

It was cool seeing those robots, but like what @mythos said, they felt out of place to me. It actually took me out of the that scene. I think it because those real life robots interact in the environment differently than the SW version of robots. They all either walk like a human for have some form of wheels to moved them. None of the SW robots we've seen hobble like those real life robots do which is a trade mark feature of those robots if that makes any sense?

So far, I think the show is okay, not really sold on it but i am looking forward to future episodes. Hopefully the show will pick up in the next couple of episodes.

The title stranger in a strange land is a reference to moses. Exodus 2:22 to be exact where he says i have been a stranger in a strange land. Referring to his time spent in Egypt. He was essentially adopted into Egyptian royalty. Boba fett was both a stranger when captured by tusken raiders and as a diamyo on Tatooine.

The more I think of it, the more i think it is.
At least another missed oportunity to explain what we all wanted to know in a diferent, artistic and longer way.
I see no risk in this episode. We all love Filoni and Favreau work in SW but we all have to be little critics too.

Those are exactly my personal thoughts. Digital has too much definition. I don't say it's bad filming in digital. I say you need a proper cinematography and photography for fairy and adventure tales to not look cheap and fake.

    Absolutely. Again, my thoughts.
The problem of TBOBF maybe is we got TM before.

I only hope the story will open and will get bigger (ships, space, planets...). At this moment feels so small, with no epicness. If it's all in Tatooine and how to become a crime lord, will be quite boring.

Every time i watch the sarlacc scene it reminds me of Fire in the sky, when travis wakes up in the slimey pod. book-of-boba-fett-sarlacc-1-1640803292.png unnamed.jpg

Watched it once. IMHO, I thought the episode should have been much longer, felt like they needed more time to tell the background/history of the man himself and his escape from the sarlacc. I was underwhelmed like others but of course my expectations were always impossible perfection for this show.
The mayor's majordomo scene might have been the softest for me. If they were trying to set-up a sinister villain, the actor made it feel like some gov't meter-reader threatening Boba with a hefty fine or something. This may have been intentional of course, but the portrayal/foreshadowing left me wanting.
Maybe what threw this episode off for me was the portrayal of Boba's health and current prowess. In the Mandalorian, he was a badass, straight-up Hulk-smashing stormtroopers, bar-brawling Mando's and now he's weakened and stumbling around, needing help? Once again, this may have been intentional, the comeback story.
Unknown's that also contribute to my opinion is time: How much time has passed since the end-credit scene of Mandalorian and him waking in the the bacta tank?

Max Rebo was fun to see. Temura and Wen are excellent together. I loved the parallel with the chain death of the creature by Boba and Leia's killing of Jabba.

All in all a leisurely start to this story. I will give it an enthusiastic "Eh!".

I liked the majordomo. That was kind of the only comic relief in the episode. He was played by an improv comic, who apparently has a Netflix show. I don't know his name. The character was just this typical bureaucrat/diplomat. He chose his words, to not get blasted into a million pieces, but also tell boba fett the mayor is in charge. I thought it was funny.

I worked 16 hours in a correctional facility yesterday, I was on and off my cellphone reading the reactions of the first episode of the Book of Boba Fett (I was so excited for the show I broke a major rule and used my cellphone in the jail), anywho, today I'm off I have a bit of time to give my thoughts on the first episode.

I was the one, who first stated that it was Boba Fett who was the mysterious character in episode 5, the Gunslinger of the Mandalorian. Many disliked the idea of Boba Fett appearing in the Mandalorian, and stated if it was him, it was awful fan service... so here we are.

Also, the Gunslinger was the first live action episode that Dave Filoni directed, and most fans said the direction of that episode was mediocre. many stated, Dave Filoni did a bad job of directing that episode. My favorite Episodes of the Mandalorian are the Gunslinger chapter 5, and the Marshal chapter 9 both of which are set on Tatooine.

This is an introductory episode of TBOBF and most people expected to see the GODfather HAHA. This episode wasn't perfect, and I understand why so many were underwhelmed, but for me, I am a fan of Star Wars A New Hope so whenever a show is set on Tatooine, where Jawas roam, Tusken culture rule the sand dunes, and more homestead settings, I am a happy camper and sort of bias, so for me I enjoyed this first episode tremendously. ( I was really disappointed that Josh Trank's Boba Fett film was cancelled and when James Mangold was set to direct a Boba Fett film it was a major disappointment as well since he directed Logan 2017. He would have made a great Boba Fett film IMHOP)

I can not wait for the Obi-Wan series which will be undoubtedly set on Tatooine, and I expect many will be tired of that setting when that series is finally released, but I think Ewan McGregor's popularity will save that show, unlike Temuera Morrison a New Zealand actor who isn't as popular as the aforementioned.

Again, this is the first episode, I'll wait till episodes 4 or 5 to rein fiery judgement. Now, The Mandalorian is now viewed as an epic show, but fans complained of filler episodes, and fan service so I'm not surprised that many feel the same for this series... to each their own films are subjective. We enjoy art for our own unique reasons.

    Cheers,
    The Rogue

I appreciated the parallel storytelling. The flashback showing Boba being literally stripped of his exterior armor, thrust into this alien culture and having to earn a judging masses’ respect through combat and compassion. Which, in a grander perspective, is exactly what he’s aiming to achieve in the present storyline. So . . . neat.

From a plot minutia angle though, I’m a little confused about what authority Boba exactly has here. It’s presented like his “criminal empire” is just two people in an empty building. What? The mayor is refusing to pay tribute? Well, yeah, why would he? Why would anybody? The whole thing about ‘organized crime’ is that it’s an organization. Not just a couple assassins squatting in a dead guy’s house.

There’s this weird emphasis placed on the Gamorreans having worked for Bib. But I thought that was the whole deal. Boba took over Bib’s operation. Wouldn’t that include all his subordinates? Where’d everybody go? Am I missing something here?

Anyway, for the start of a story about a character I can honestly say I have absolutely zero investment in, this was OK. I’m looking forward to more introspective moments where the character has to reconcile his past with his present and where that leads his future.
The Lars Homestead is effectively a ‘Little House on the Prairie’. The ‘Sandpeople’ in ANH were functionally a very problematic allusion to ‘Indian Raiders’ that were unfortunately represented in storytelling of that age that Lucas was pulling from. The narrative voice of the time exclusively reflected the settlers’ perspective and depicted the indigenous peoples as senseless savages hellbent on making decent folk’s lives difficult.

The reality, of course, is that what the ‘settlers’ were settling was land that belonged to somebody else. Popular storytelling had staged the victims as the villains and the trespassers as the heroes. The step the Mandalorian appears to have attempted was to reform that uncomfortably racist undercurrent by making the same in-narrative revelation. They were here first. And they aren’t savages. They’re just different. Glad this show is running with that restaging.

It doesn't really seem like a "spoiler" to me that Sam Witwer did a Star Wars voice. He has already voiced Starkiller/Apprentice, some versions of Maul and Palpatine, and some other characters. I'm always happy to hear him, but not exactly surprised.

I thought it was okay, not great, but an okay start. I think it was too short and that the flashbacks took up too much of the runtime ( they're also kinda boring). I wanted to see more of the "current" story started in The Mandalorian; hopefully we're done with flashbacks now.

    Holy Bantha blast:
(pwned)there has been a great revelation on these boards(pwned)
If only the "different people" had hit young Anakin's pod they would've saved an entire village....
And the "different people" could have kept "entertaining" Shmi.
I wonder, would the "different people" do the same with her body?
Or, would they have fed Shmi to their massiffs?

Meditate on the definition of Star Wars-Savages,

    I will....

I'd say it's more of a figurative sense. He's not literally unfamiliar with the planet. But he's a "fish out of water" so to speak, both in the flashbacks as he's proving himself to the Sand People, and in the present as he's proving himself as a crime lord.

That's Dave Pasquesi. He's been part of the Chicago improv community for many, many years, most notably for his onstage partnership with TJ Jagdowski. Saw many of their shows back in the day, and they never disappointed (which is, of course incredibly rare when it comes to improv.)

So when I realized, toward the end of that scene, that it was Dave playing that majordomo, I started really rooting for him to get out of Jabba's palace in one piece so that maybe he'd end up returning in another episode or two this season. Obviously, I've got a bit of a personal connection there, so your mileage may vary.

Overall, I enjoyed the first episode. It didn't wow me the way the first episode of The Mandalorian did, but then again the first Mando was a bit of a perfect storm scenario, wasn't it? Plenty of potential there, I think, for some compelling storylines to develop this season.

If there's one thing that hangs me up a bit, it's that I find the music to be underwhelming and rather forgettable. Then again, I was among the minority of fans who felt the same way about the score for The Mandalorian. But I don't see that getting in the way of my enjoyment of the show. It sure didn't for Mando.

My pointless little prediction - Boba ends up forging a bond with the young Tusken Raider.

I enjoy Ludwig's music but his theme for TBOBF may be the weakest. It's not bad but just not what I was expecting for Boba and the vocals throw me off. Maybe I'll get into it as episodes pass by like with the mandalorian, I liked it already right away but grew to enjoy it even much more over time
