To the untrained eye, it seems like technology in the SW universe is always about at the same level, whereas ships, weapons, and general technology doesn't seem to make any advancement. This thread is dedicated to showing off the improvements and evolution of technology that are sparsely highlighted in the films, comics, and such.

Some improvements are more obvious than others, but each shows a clear progression of what came before.

The Tech seems to down grade with the resistance and rebels most of the films.

But the basic tech hasn’t changed in thousands of years.....in KOTR there they are with starships and light sabers and blasters.....I had the same issue with tech in Tolkien’s world basically staying the same for 6,000+ years

That's actually a pretty common trope with fantasy (look at GOT or LOTR), which Star Wars arguably aligns closer with than Sci-Fi.

I'm fine with technology staying basically the same for long periods of time. I mean, Star Wars is not about the tech, but at the same time you can't have Star Wars without it, so it doesn't bother me that there aren't many examples of progress/downgrade as we jump between eras. Certain level has to be constant.

As for the apparent downgrade - Pablo described the difference between PT and OT as a difference in culture rather than technology level. High society of the Republic vs ascetic Empire and oppressed Rebels, who only have some junk at their disposal.

I've also always thought of it as the difference between the classical era and the Middle Ages. The Sequel trilogy also doubles down on that medieval theme, anyway.

This is a great thread, by the way.....always wanted to talk this topic with fans as passionate as I.....

One of my favorite things about SW is the total inconsistency in tech advances. They seem to have "pockets" of technology that don't seem to have advanced much more than us here on Earth....the SAME time as other "pockets" are wildly advanced beyond our imagination.

Example - Digital storage techology......the most important, most critical, most highly classified tech data from the ENTIRE Empire is kept on some sort of DVDs. In a huge, 1,000 foot tall DVD rack.

----while, at the same time----starships ply the galaxy routinely using hyperdrive.
