    40 years ago...WOW....

So, I was in the 8th grade when ESB came out, and despite the fact that ANH will always be my #1, I was WAY MORE excited to see ESB because I now KNEW what Star Wars was, and frankly we never EVER expected (After seeing ANH) that there would be more, or anything ever like it AGAIN, until it was announced in Starlog magazine...and myself and all of my compares were "extatic", which THAT word in no way accurately describes how we felt, and that movie is #2 on my list.

As a Star Wars memoribilia collector, I have a large stock of original SW things, MOSTLY original theater posters, original artwork, and autographs, and about 8 years ago, PURELY by chance, I stumbled across an ESB 1981 Re-release poster for $35, because the seller had NO idea what it was worth (which can be in the THOUSANDS of dollars), and I snatched it up....then had Peter Mayhew sign it, and I looked upon it this morning with the fondest of memories of those days in my life when SW was my everything in the world, and it hangs on the wall next to the original release RoTJ theatrical Australian 1-sheet...also with Peters signature.

Those days...they were something else...something that will never be reproduced or rivaled...the best times of my life.

Happy Anniversary ESB...thank you for helping to fill my childhood with joy!

....and I MUST have that 40th Anniversary poster for my collection...I MUST if it actually exists!!

I saw ESB in 1980 and was convinced that Vader was lying to Luke, even in the Spring of '83. LOL I remember buying the Issue of SW Insider in May 2000 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of ESB. Here we are 20 years later to celebrate the 40th anniversary, as now I feel old! LOL I remember my older brother explaining to me Episode V and it blew my mind. You're telling me there is going to be 9 SW movies for the next 15-20 years? That's what everyone thought in the early 80's, before Lucas retired after ROTJ.

To give perspective to all of the Millenials/GenZ here, I had to wait 5 years to see ESB again as we didn't get a VCR til 1985. The FIRST movie I rented was ESB and watched it all weekend. It finally came to HBO around 1986, so that is when I could really watch it a zillion times. These days a movie is out on BluRay/Streaming in 4 months, back then we had to wait more than a Presidential Election to see it again! LOL

I like that that poster looks like there's tiny Imperial vehicles coming out of Vader's timeout chamber. Adorable. "Sick them, my little pretties."

Very few films ever get the day to day recognition like the way the OT has, and I personally think a great deal of that is thanks to ESB. It continued a story that everyone LOVED, but made things fresh and exciting without contradicting what came before. It delivered on promises only hoped for, and is pretty much the gold standard on what a sequel should be for cinema.

    amen to that @Trevor!

TESB was the first SW flick I saw. When my Dad took me to the cinema all I thought theatres showed were Disney stuff (fast forward to 2019 and ironically that pretty much was true!)

as my Dad recalls it, I sat slack jawed with ‘eyes like saucers’ right through the movie, all the way home and for several days afterwards.

looking back it’s amazing to think how formative this movie experience turned out to be... it blew up my imagination, I played endlessly with the toys, read the books, rewatched the movies countless times and would eventually go to film school and end up as part of the mod team on the best SW fan site!

I am who I am because of this movie and the indelible mark it mad on an impressionable young mind

I was born in September 78 so was too young for the cinema TESB although I did see it and ANH in the early 80's on my dads Betamax vcr before the cinema release of ROTJ, which I did go to see in the cinema in 1983.

I voted "Of course" but for me it's my number one, only just ahead of ANH.

I love this movie! It resembles so much of SW for me! Not to mention it has the best OT duel of all time! (Vader vs Luke on Bespin) Also, the Han and The Princess have such a beautiful relationship which adds more to the movie. Also, who doesn’t love the Battle of Hoth! And Lando resembles my personality so much. Besides the backstabbing...
