Is it true that Regal theaters are bringing back "The Empire Strikes Back" to theaters soon? I've never seen any of the Original Trilogy movies in theater (I was born in 1990) and I've always wanted to seem them on the big screen!

If there's one special edition I'm ok with watching, it's TESB. I hope it happens!

It's definitely happening here in the UK at some cinemas, and in the words of one K. Ren, "it's tearing me apart!" (because I'm not sure I'll be comfortable going very soon).

Sounds awesome! I still need to see it released, though.

I was hoping for a drive-in cinema showing this July, but so far no news.

Drive-in cinema would be great! I hope that some theaters have that idea.

Why do Americans living in the 21st century still call a building that shows films, "a theater" ?

Do your "theaters" still have a stage, a set of heavy curtains, stagelights and spotlights, an orchestra pit, a backstage area with makeup rooms, costume departments and background scenery ??!

If so, then fine. Keep calling it a "theater"... (you could at least spell it correctly too.... theatre )

If not, then its a cinema.

Cinema: (noun) From the French word cinématographe. Which was taken from the ancient Greek word kínēma, meaning “movement”.

If using French words makes you feel uncomfortable, then instead call it a "Moviehouse". (You already call the films 'movies'.)

    :D

This is all hinging on whether actual brick and mortar theaters come back again, and survive the hyper fear generated by our news media over this latest pandemic.

Had an interesting chat with my Mom about the H3N2 pandemic in 1968-69-70. Quite a different world reaction to that, i.e. no mass "lockdowns".

Does something look off about this? Like it's the full screen version? The bar at the bottom says otherwise but something looks off to me.

Looking into the history of cinema in the U.S. might help explain why cinemas are still called theaters.

Now, I'm pretentious enough to call them cinemas, and refer to playhouses as theatre. However, most people can't see the way I spell it when I talk with them in person. Perhaps if I had subtitles...
Though there is also the common parlance of those buildings being called "movie theaters" to further designate them as something different to the traditional and classic theatre.

While we're at it, people should probably stop calling them "movies" and refer to them as the more modern and accurate term: Talkies. :p

    Speaking of PRETENTIOUS.....

In the U.S., the general term is "Movie theater" which IS spelled correctly in America, and in fact YES some of those "Theatres" (EXACTLY like the one I saw SW in back in '77) in small town America still either have or had a stage, stage lighting, and a pit in existence that had gone unused in decades...so your pretentious rant is therefore rendered moot...so save it.

I suppose that it's no different that most of us silly American refugees that escaped your kingdom don't refer to England and Scotland as "The U.K." as my mothers family left Dunbar Scotland for the colonies in 1709 because they couldn't stand English rule as it was mostly forced through wars of attrition, and Scotland folded from being worn down....so like your "Theratre", some of us see your Kingdom as something of a "forced annexation"...

Stick with your theatres and I'll stick with Scotland and England not being the same....get it?

I don't call them theratres or theatres I call them flashey flashey load sounds. I mean if we are going down the road of silly SHeet americans do why do we say going to the hospital not just to hospital. Why do we say surgery instead of theatre? Why do we not drink or tea with cream. It is crazy. We do stuff different because. In the UK BBQ and spicy isn't popular cause why not? I think this is enough of off topic stuff so get back to the point of the thread.

Allegedly Princess Margaret said the Luke was a M*** S** as he shouldn't have been able to lay a glove on Vader without being properly trained. Although there's no direct official quote regarding this, her diary entry that night simply reads "Complete cinematic failure".

Well, you had your chance in 1997 with the SE. I was born in 83 and only had the opportunity to see them in 1997.
