    They're both equally as good.

I personally think that ROTJ is better than TFA...I actually think ROTJ is a little underrated. If it wasn’t for a slow/weak middle section of the film and of coarse the Ewoks, ROTJ would be a 5 star film...Not saying TFA is a bad movie, but I prefer ROTJ.

I have no problem finding that TFA is better than ROTJ.
Just in the quality of cinematography it's leaps better, and of the same lineage of the art (as opposed to ESB, which can't be compared to ROTJ or TFA's camera work because it's of an entirely different style and ilk).

We get a fully versed array of camera work, blocking, and composition in TFA. We get pretty good stuff going on in ROTJ, but it's still fairly static (though no where near as much as ANH...and nothing modern is as static as the PT - which was intentional by Lucas).

On a content note, it's really easy for someone like myself to pick TFA over ROTJ because my ranking of the OT has been ANH, ROTJ, ESB for a long time.
In the PT, TPM was my top pick, and I'll probably end up with TFA as my top pick of the ST - though TLJ is really upsetting my typical pattern and running neck and neck with TFA (unusual for me).

This is because I normally prefer the opening act where everything's about wonder, discovery, and setting off on the adventure.
After that, I like the third acts, and then begrudgingly I scoop up the second acts - I don't really like the downer act of anything.
Even in a single film, I won't be found to likely be pointing to the second act (beyond maybe the first 15/20 minutes where the previews tend to come from) as where the good stuff was. I'm pretty predictable. What did Jayson like about the movie? He liked the opening, then the closing, and *mumblemumblestuffinthemiddlemumble* cool show!

So it's very easy for me to raise my hand up and be counted as someone who would pick TFA over ROTJ.

ROTJ is like watching old-school skateboarding from the late 70's and early 80's. It's cool, but the tricks are limited.
TFA is like watching modern skateboarding; it's just way more energetic and articulate than the original era.

    Cheers!
    Jayson :)

TFA better than RotJ? Seriously? LMAO! No, it's not even close, not by a long shot. RotJ is exponentially a better SW film.

    To you. ;)

    I fully disagree there.
ROTJ is below ANH and ANH is below TFA.
In fact, my order currently goes TFA, LTJ, ANH as my top three.

As a kid what I loved in ROTJ were basically all action scene ideas: pirate motif of swinging between ships and sword fighting your way to rescuing the princess, speeder bike chases, and...hmm...that's about it. The final duel was pretty meh. A lot of not fighting going on, so as a kid I never really could get into ROTJ's final fight. It always left me feeling like, "That's it? That's the best that Luke will ever be?...oh well."
Hell, the "Dread Pirate Roberts", aka Wesley, got better fight scenes, and more of them, than Luke.
I just had to imagine Luke's better fights for myself using my awesome die-cast metal death toys.

    Cheers,
    Jayson :)

I think the original trilogy is much more profound! New films too Hollywood-ish and riddled with cliches

TFA is obviously inferior, at least in my eyes. I would rather watch something stupid but different over something that's kind of just ANH.

"ROTJ" is my least favorite of the six films made by Lucas. But . . . yeah, I think it's better than "TFA".

As far as the topic discussion of TFA versus or not ROTJ is concerned I believe that original ROTJ was far superior and much solidified to the Star Wars storyline or plot of the movies theme. It is a totally different story, no theme what so ever, totally chaos plots, dysfunctional SW storyline + plots, much more disgusteing than what George Lucas had initially started to what a joke it has become. This was the 1st time I didn't go to cinema to watch the Last Jedi just as FYI.

Different timelines in comparison... but Force Awakens seems to score higher points. But Empire Strikes Back slots it down !!!!

ROTJ has a far weaker villian than kylo in the ST overall.

Don't agree with you there. I can't take Kylo Ren seriously as a villain. He seems more suited for a comedy.

I rank them about the same. The only thing that prevents ROTJ from outranking TFA is all the Ewok stupidity. If Lucas had kept them as wookies it would've been perfect.
