I totally agree! Hey remember that scene in ANH where Han Solo dies at the hand of his son?? That was so sad/amazing! Remember that character in ANH who was a defecting stormtrooper?? He was great! Remember in ANH when Darth Vader wanted to be stronger than Darth Vader?? Haha oh that Vader! Remember in ANH when Chewie got shot?? That looked like it hurt! Remember that character in ANH who had control of the food supply at an outpost, and only gave scavengers food if they delivered valuable parts to him?? He was so devious! Remember that female character in ANH who grew up in the vast graveyard of a Galactic Civil War battle and had to scavenge the remains in order to eat? Such an awesome OT character. Remember that pilot in ANH who didn't need or use the force in order to be the most kick-@ss pilot we've ever seen?? Such a likeable and bad ass dude! Remember General Leia Organa in ANH? The older woman who was faced with a Republic government who viewed her as a terrorist/extremist, but she desperately needed their military aid to combat another group, the First Order?? What a struggle! She finally decided (in ANH) that she had to seek out her twin brother, a wise and powerful Jedi Knight, to help her! Remember The First Order in ANH?? The group of bad guys who decided that the Galactic Empire was too nicey-nice, and that they needed to be more evil, by doing things like kidnapping babies and brain washing them to form their military?? Such great villains in ANH! Remember that part in ANH when Han Solo had to steal back the Millenium Falcon?? Haha oh that smuggler!! Kept letting his ship get stolen in ANH! Hey remember that legend in ANH where a Jedi started a Jedi Academy on his own, but then a rogue student killed everyone so the master Jedi ran away and went looking for the first Jedi temple?? Hey remember that villain in ANH who used the dark side of the force, but was tortured by the call of the light side as well?? He would get mad (in ANH) and chop up computers with his lightsaber and mind torture dudes with the force (in ANH)!!! And then he got shot through the gut with with a bowcaster and then had an epic lightsaber duel with the defecting stormtrooper and the scavenger girl (who force mind-tricked James Bond.......earlier in ANH!!!). That was like the best part of ANH!! *deep breath* I MEAN TFA AND ANH ARE PRACTICALLY THE SAME MOVIE BEAT FOR BEAT HAHAHAHA! tmp_2177-images320179621.jpg Yes people, there are parallels. Anyone with sense knew there would be parallels. But TFA is not an exact copy of ANH.

I've been saying this same thing over and over, but I think you said it best. I mean, yeah, absolute nobody in desert ends up being a somebody who finds another older somebody who dies in order to help a rebellion blow up a planet blowing up thingy, the plans of which were hidden in a droid which both sides sought after. That's about it for story, and that isn't even the important part of the story.

Plans for Starkiller were not hidden in BB-8.

If you boil it down, The Phantom Menace and A New Hope were the same movie. A boy from a desert goes on a mission with an older Jedi Knight and pilots a ship that blows up the bad guys super weapon. The boy likes the Princess/Queen and will eventually be trained in the force by another Jedi because the older Jedi died. At the end they have a huge celebration!

Wow, looks like we got A New Hope three times now.

This argument is just so plain silly.

JJ is literally finishing a 9-stanza poem... Where 6 stanzas are already written.
And people are like "why did you make it rhyme?"

:sigh: excuse my language but fans are so Maclunkey clueless now a days on anything its really becoming a thing where it makes fandom look horrible. for example people hated the prequels so everyone online hated the prequels and if some did like them there deemed not a ** true ** fan. as for the force awakens people are now crying foul of how its a copy of anh. seriously make up your Maclunkey minds people. in the end i think people are just miserable now they have to just bash every thing

i mean jesus bloody christ if disney and jj did a whole new start from scratch story i am willing to bet people will still Vhlor wine and complain. seriously have fun at the movies wich is the whole point of star wars in the first place.

I mean there's no denying it follows a lot of the beats but it's not the same story at all (even if I really wished they had avoided a Deathstar 3.0)

But what makes me laugh is that the people who make that claim are also likely to be those who don't like the fact we've seen lots of new force powers on show in this movie - the freezing of a blaster, the mind probe etc. They are also people who can't see that the force is manifiesting itself in Rey in a completely different way and that she was basically 'awakening' through interaction with the lightsaber and interrogation by Kylo Ren. They want her to have to go through training and the exact same journey as Luke because apparently this movie is 'Grrrr ...exactly the same as IV' but must follow IV exactly!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away...uh oh, copyright infringement. Damn you JJ!

I know, I mean I remember in ANH when Vader removed his helmet and said...he didn't.

Well when this girl was in the belly of a star destroyer scavenging stuff for food...no...wait...

Luke lived in a an AT-AT Walker too! Noooooo

But...but it is beat for exact beat of ANH...I mean the exact moment Poe and Finn steal a Tie Fighter in ANH Han shoots Greedo...whoops...this is not the exact movie you're looking for.

How many force abilities did Luke show in A New Hope?

    I count two.
    1. With the blast shield down, he blocked 3 blasts from the remote with his lightsaber.
    2. He made the exhaust port, after shutting off his targeting computer. After hearing a voice.

Now.... in The Force Awakens, how many Force-related skills and abilities did Rey show? .... Hmm?

The mind trick and using the Force to grab the lightsaber.
You could also argue the Force vision and her lightsaber duel victory...

Luke encounters some Sandpeople on Tatooine. Gets knock unconscious, until he's rescued by Kenobi.

Rey encounters a gang of thugs on Jakku. Whoops them all with her staff (without even breaking a sweat).

    Yes! :)

I was kind of suggesting that Luke has only two moments... and my belief is that Rey has a lot more! :)

(I was just too tired to list all of Rey's moments....)

How can people can still say that SWTFA is a copy of ANH???
    They are TWO different movies.
There are a lot of threads around here saying this.

Yeah but did Rey actually force grab the saber or did it catch her by surprise, by going past Kylo and she either had to hold her hand out , or get hit in the face?

Seems she was very surprised it even came to her.The look on her face is WTH? I don't count that one.

Luke was a farm boy who was sheltered by his overprotective uncle. Rey is a scavenger on a rough planet where she scavenges for her existence and had to learn how to fight and protect herself to survive. That is why Luke needs assistance with the Tusken Raiders and why Rey did not need assistance against Unkar's thugs.
