I know it's a bold statement. I know I might get some tomatoes but I have the feeling TFA might be the best SW movie we've seen so far.

I am confident JJ, as a fan and director, will deliver the most complex, dramatic, thoughtful, character driven movie of the whole serie. He has learn the spirit from the OT and the mistakes from the PT.
Plus we'll have the perfect balance between practical fx and advanced CGI.

It's the chance of his career. I have high expectations and I'm pretty confident I won't be disappointed.

Of course, it will never have the same impact as ESB did when I was 6 yo. I'm 39 now but I'll surely feel like a kid again dec 18.

May the Force be with us.

It's impossible the recreacte the impact that those movies had in 1977, that's for sure. But I think JJ will bring everything that's good in SW to another level.

I am also getting the feeling that this movie could be the best in some ways. I don't think it will ever have the same cultural and nostalgic impact as the OT, but purely from a story, visual standpoint i think it has a very good chance to equal if not top them.
The hardest thing to do in my opinion is match or outdo the Emperor and Vader as the villains. Maul was a great but wasted character design that didn't get enough time to establish himself in the PT.
I hope Kylo and Snoke are with us longer than Maul was.

With the PT they were stuck with a story that already exist. We all knew where everything was going. With the ST the field was wide open to create something new and special. And they had time to think about everything.

To me, the angle of the Legends, the old stories with the Dark side and the Jedis in the trailer is pure genius. I love it. The search for Luke being the main engine is amazing. Keeping Luke secret. Making him a lost rumor, almost a ghost, keeping us craving for him is brilliant.

I agree. But to know that Kylo is the most complex characters of all the serie, to know he's played by Adam Driver, to know all the grey areas between good and bad is inspiring to me. I'm confident. Very confident we'll get a home run with the new villains.

People confuse nostalgia level to greatness level far too often. Understandably so. I completely understand that people will always love more what is more special to them on an emotional scale. And the OT set that scale so high, and had such a positive impact on society, that that scale may never be reached again. You may be able to create a great thing that resembles something from someone's childhood, but you can't recreate their childhood. And if those same emotional feelings aren't the same as they were way back when, people consider the material not as good. From a nostalgia level, I don't think this film will out-do the OT. You can never replicate some feelings. But from a film, story, script, critical, and entertainment standpoint, I think TFA will definitely be a good contender for strongest.

As the latest chapter of one very long film, I'm sure TFA will be as awesome as the first six installments of the Star Wars saga have been.

Which is to say, as with all six of its predecessor films, TFA will not be flawless, but it will still be a great Star Wars film which immerses me deeply into the galaxy far, far away...

As i posted in another thread, i think Kylo may have been born evil and is totally irredeemable, predisposed to being on the darkside no matter what. The quote from his toy "I am immune to the light" gave me this idea and would be something new and interesting, rather than just repeating redemption like Vader.

Kasdan said in an interview that Kylo is unique. A very complex character that is new and fresh to the SW saga.

I admire your optimism, but this kind of thought process is a dangerous path. It's an unrealistic expectation to expect any new movie Star Wars movie to be better than the orginals simply because the orginal source material will always be considered the gold standard.

Besides the new movies don't need to be better. They just need to be good and worthy of continuing the legacy. Enjoy them for what they are. The comparisons aren't necessary.

I can pretty much guarantee it won't be as good as either A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back. Like I am 100% sure on that.

When I walk into the theater on Friday the 18th at 9:00am, I won't require TFA be the best Star Wars movie EVER. And truthfully, I don’t know that it can be (for me), because I’m a grown man, and (generally speaking), it’s frowned upon when guys my age take a back-pack full of action figures and (HUGE) Millennium Falcon to the local park during a snowstorm to recreate Hoth with a bunch of 10-year-olds. (Read: So much of what made the OT so great for me was recreating the stories with my friends and sharing the experience.)

What I'll be hoping (as an adult) is that TFA can add to the overall Star Wars mythos without subtracting from what came before or relying too heavily upon the OT nostalgia.

Time will tell if it will be the best SW movie. Won't have my mind made up until I see the film, and even at that, give it time to settle in before I can make a honest assessment.

It really has nothing to do with 'how we felt when we saw SW as kids' and can JJ repeat it with TFA.

A classic movie is a classic movie and they are very hard to keep making in any franchise. For a movie to be considered a classic, EVERYTHING has to come together as its like Lightning in a bottle.

I think TFA can be a very good movie, heck maybe a great movie. But as great as ANH or ESB? The history of movie sequels tells me it's not happening.

But I would love to be wrong!

The impact that the OT had does not contribute to how GOOD the movie actually is right? It might be possible that TFA tops everything we've seen. But I do not think the chance is big! However, I really like how diverse the story seems. A lot of different aspects and concepts that are to be discovered. Also some unoriginal aspects tho, such as another super weapon and another Skywalker living in isolation wanting adventure. My gues is that if ESB is a 9, TFA will be an 8/8.5, which would be fantastic.

How so? How can you *guarantee* that? This thread is going to blow up bigger than The Death Stars 1& 2 by the time the official premiere rolls around. I can see this film being amazing, however, don't get me wrong about that. I think it will just come down to taste at the end of the day, like how AOTC has its detractors and its fans.

Remember, like Mark Hamill has said, it's just a movie at the end of the day and we should all just enjoy it for what it is regardless of how good and bad it is, and I FULLY agree with that statement, so we should be careful and bash it to bits AFTER we see it. ;) .

This is like comparing a state of the art, brand new stadium with the colliseum... Will the action be as good? Plausibly. Will you be as entertained? I'd think so. Can your experience be life changing? Yup. But OT and the colliseum came first and it will be tough to outrank their greatness, even with more comparable greatness. I'd wager many will think yes (younger generation) and many will think not (our generations), and none of them will be wrong. We all like different things and have different opinions. But both can be great.
