As iconic? Probably not. But that's not what's being questioned.. I truly believe this film can live up to the OT, if not surpass it and become the best overall Star Wars movie. It's got a definite chance, in my opinion.

    I believe. :)

Must be crazy bunch at TFN, glad that you contribute to this site.
My No.1 is ANH, because it's the original and I like the character introduction, this movie works well as a standalone.
A very close No.2 is ESB for me. (too much studio shots for my taste)

Time will tell, in two months we will have the answer to this, if J.J. was capable to pull it off.
I don't hate the new Star Trek movies, but they are lacking.
To me they are action flicks using the Star Trek setting and missing the soul, I guess you can't force it as a director.

To me they were way better then Nemesis and Generations and stuff. That franchise was in ruins the Star trek setting needed to change, I mean still watch the shows all of them but they are really lacking in dialog, action, chemistry, atmosphere, just imagine something like Enterprise had to compete with shows like GoT, Breaking Bad or Walking Dead. No frikking chance. The audience has changed.

    Halfway I agree with you.
Insurrection and Nemesis are bad movies, but Generations is somehow decent in my opinion.
At least it has William Shatner in it, kicking Malcolm McDowell's butt.

That's a good point as ESB is one of the few sequels in movie history that is as great or even better then the original.

But ESB is WAY different then ANH as it didnt repeat anything whereas TFA is looking like it will be mirroring ANH in many ways.

    I grew up seeing A New Hope as my first star wars movie but then the second movie I saw was phantom menace in theaters. Growing up I really enjoyed both prequels and OT. Now, hands down I enjoy the OT way more, but I still do enjoy some parts of the sequel. Although, I don't know why, I just know TFA is going to be by far my favorite star wars movies. Well at least until episode eight and nine (;

Empire will always be the best Star Wars movie visually. The craftsmanship just isn't there today due to CGI being so widely used.

However I think it could be the best one when it comes to plot and action scenes.

It's weird because Jabba's Palace scene and the throne room battle are two of my favorite scenes in the OT, but Return of the Jedi is my least favorite OT movie, and I'm not sure why. The introduction and conclusion are awesome but the beef of the movie felt slow sometimes for me, IMO.

Two simple reasons, the forest moon of endor was boring to look at... and because Han and LEia had virtually nothing to do in the film.

I think you mean "best star wars movie story-telling wise"

Visually I am sure TFA will be the best, I actually find Empire to be the most boring to look at of all the films. The locations are very cramped feeling, there are far to few aliens (ugnaughts, yodas, and a couple bounty hunters is about it)

Empire while the best film, is just not the best to look at...

Jedi has great scenes and bad scenes, unlike ANH & ESB where the movies don't skip a beat for 2 hours.

Don't get me wrong I still love Jedi, but when you compare it to its predecessors its inferior.

HAHA no way. That's the best thing about this: I already know I've seen the BEST Star Wars movies (A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return Of The Jedi).

The new film I just hope is good, as that's likely all it could hope to be.

    At least to me anyway.

there are things that the ot and even the pt couldnt even come close to that moviemakers can do now in tfa. that is to create a proportionally accurate relation between the sense of realism and the scale of giant spaces/scenery.

This movie is going to be a carefully thought out and well manifactured masterpiece. Disney bought Star Wars for 4.5 billion dollars knowing full well what they would have to do with it. They have seen the reception the prequels got, and do not want the same criticism, so you'd better believe they put people who really care about Star Wars in charge of this project.

    That official trailer is AMAZING!!!
