SPECULATION TFA: Write the Opening Crawl

I like this idea, and your crawl is pretty good; the syntax certainly feels "Star Wars-y." I'll toss up an entry later, after I get some sleep.

However, you might want to edit this:

After the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader
Admiral Snoke declared himself Supreme leader and executed
the Emperor's First Order in an attempt to maintain control over
many of the star systems in the former Galactic Empire​

Through decades of war the Resistance is gaining support
as more and more star systems join their crusade
attempting to turn the tide sinister agent of the First Order
Kylo Ren searches the galaxy for force sensitive relics ​

Hoping to stop him, General Leia Organa sends pilot
Poe Dameron on a mission to recover one of the lost relics which
could lead the Resistance to the whereabouts of her brother
who has lived in exile many years, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker....​

The deaths of the Emperor and Darth Vader did not bring the victory the rebellion had hoped for. A fractured and beaten remnants of the empire continued to fight in sectors of the galaxy. The conflict continued in even deadlier and larger conflicts. Gradually the new republic gained support.

Recently a new force, born out of the remnants of Palpatine’s reign of terror has started to take control of more and more systems. Their leaders are mysterious force users Snoke and Kylo Ren who have swept through the galaxy amid the absence of the rebel hero Luke Skywalker

General Organa, former leader of the new republic has been enlisted to help fight this new threat to Galactic stability. She sends a trusted soldier Poe Dameron deep into First order space to find new allies and develop a new resistance to this growing threat.​

When I was reading your crawl and read it. I was transported back to when I was a kid and read about the Death Star in the crawl of ANH.

The thing that bothers me is that I think the importance surrounding the lightsaber is going to be explained in the opening crawl. I feel like that's the gaping hole in all of our crawls.

 

Yeah I mention that everyone is in search of Force sensitive relics, but I didn't go with that in my crawl. Mainly because we don't know why. That and I'm hoping they touch on it in the film. But now that you mention it, I can see it being explained to us via the crawl \m/

No seriously I love these endings..

Something along the lines of ... looking for her brother the exiled Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker...

...Would be awesome... and then at the end of the film of course in the last scene, the mysterious (to the new fans and younger generation) yet fondly familiar (for us old school peeps) hooded Luke Skywalker appears. The crowd goes wild!

 

Of course, I'm still hoping for more Luke than that . But that's a topic for several other threads
