TFA's Unanswered Questions

why, when there is a new republic with armed forces, is there a resistance? And why is Leia not involved with the new republic?

 

I only have one major question.

WHO THE F IS REY

 

Who Rey's parents are is obviously the main unanswered question, and why was she abandoned on Jakku. That could go to some very interesting places, but I'm glad they didn't expand on it in TFA.

Who and where are the Knights of Ren.

Snoke's background.

They need to expand more on Kylo's defection from Luke to the Dark side.

 

Why there's a Resistance if there was a Republic Army in first place?

 

Precisely my thoughts! I also found it interesting that Han and Leia knew Snoke and that he was responsible for Ben turning to the Dark Side. What is the history here? I hope this will be dealt more in details as well.

I am elated that I guessed right that BB-8 wouldn't carry lightsaber and that instead Maz had it already in her castle. However, that made me curious how she got it in the first place.

 

Because it's a proxy war... this was answered when Hux calls the Republic hypocrites for funding the Resistance to fight the First Order.

 

my thought is that the republic doesn't want to start a galactic war, so maybe they made some kind of deal with the first order to maintain the peace, but the FO obviously decided to attack anyway xD (mainly because the republic was helping the resistence to fight in the FO territories)

Does the New Republic still exist at the end? Starkiller Base destroyed its capital.

 

Enjoyed the film...at first...but, the more I think about it, the more I realize there are unfortunately lots of unanswered questions. Now, I never wanted all of these answered in film 1. That would have been a mess and made for a bad first film of a franchise, leaving little surprise for the next two. That said, very little backstory was provided, leaving weird motivations for characters to do what they do in the movie.

1. Why is there a Resistance and a Republic? Why is the Republic not interested in resisting?
2. What Republic planet was destroyed?
3. How did the First Order come to be?
4. Why didn't the Republic set out to crust the First Order when it first hit the scene?
5. Was Rey present at the Jedi temple? Did she witness Ben's fall/betrayal? Who else was present? What exactly happened at the Jedi temple? What did Luke see? Why did he run?
6. Why does Kylo/Ben hate his parents? Especially Han?
7. Who is Snoke? Where does he come from? How did he infiltrate and get control of Kylo/Ben? How does he have intimate knowledge of Solo, Skywalker, etc.?
8. Why is he named Ben?
9. Who is Rey? Why is she the chosen one? Who are her parents? Why did Han and Leia seem to have familiarity with her?
10. Who is Maz? What's her backstory? How did she get Luke's saber?
11. Who is Phasma? She played a glorified cameo in this film.
12. Who is Finn? Where does he come from?
13. Who is Tekka? He seemed to...have some history. And knowledge of past events others would not. But how? Who is he?
14. Why did Luke seclude himself?

EDIT: I still liked it. Definitely far better than the prequels. Maybe better than Jedi. But there were plenty of problems with it.

 

Well, that answer about Resistance was in the film.
New Republic was kind of like today Europe, they've aknowledged the First Order, but haven't saw it as direct threat and so they've assured the peace by ''bureacracy'' and ''diplomacy'', as I can imagine people like Mon Mothma, a pacifist ideliasts, in the New Republic government with many of the others being corrupt and greedy so the whole institution is weak against any bigger threat and fail to act. But Leia and co. did not bought that, so they formed a resistance, because they knew that First Order won't play by the rule of politics.
Actually, it was awesome to me, how there are again a real world parallels. Junta is formed, but the blue collars are sitting high and safe, so they are funding a form of resistance. It didn't end well for them in the end.

 

Poe refers to the destroyed system as the "Hosnian system". But it would have been nice to have a bit more context as to what was happening. I thought it was Coruscant until Poe said that line a few minutes later.

 

Hosnia Prime, the capital of the New Republic, it was confirmed on the released chart of new planets.

 

you mean there was diplomacy in a Star Wars film and we didn't get to see it in action.....WORST.....FILM....EVER

 

I feel like that will be in a Marvel mini series or something, based off her line: "That's another story for another time."

Also, yeah, who is Rey? I feel like after the scene in Maz's castle, Luke is the obvious answer to her parentage. But who knows what Rian Johnson has up his jedi robe sleeve.

 

The Republic/Resistance thing didn't make a lot of sense to me. If the Republic is secretly funding the Resistance, fine, but that wasn't clear while I was watching it.

I know JJ and Kasdan wanted to recapture that ANH feeling - where big things like the Senate dissolving and Alderaan blowing up happen, but the focus is on these main characters - but it didn't work for me. A brief shot of a few people gasping and that's all the emotion we get for FIVE IMPORTANT PLANETS BEING DESTROYED. We don't even know the system's name until about 10 minutes later. Odd choice.

 

I dont know why everyone is trippin over these questions. These will obviously get answered in the next 2 films and books/comics. Disney needs to make back a few billion dollars, remember?
Plus, If they answered all this blast in TFA, then it would be crammed just like ROTS was and not be as solid of a film.

 

For anyone confused about the Resistance and Republic just think instead they are Mujahideen and United States. Proxy warfare
