Well, Saw Gerrera also looked (in my opinion) completely different in R1 in comparison with his cartoon-version. At least Maul is played by the same actor. He was cut in half, fell deep, so I think it's kind of logic that he looks more "damaged" and older.

It's also been about 10 years since the CW and 20 since TPM. Why wouldn't Maul look older?

First things first. Darth Maul is a bada**! So glad they brought him back into the Star Wars realm.
Solo is a good place to re-introduce him. It does two things:

    1. Gives him ground to be Solo 2 (if you will) a chance to be the lead villain.

    2. Perhaps, this is where the Kenobi stand alone comes into play?

It's been about 20 years since The Phantom Menace came out too.

Maul is player by Ray Park in both movies...

Man I’m embarrassed that I completely forgot about Saw! With Saw you didn’t need to know his background for Rogue One but with Maul & the fact people saw him “die” in TPM it really was a shock for many to see him return.

He’s one of my favs so I’m always glad to have him back!

I saw the film for the first time yesterday at lunchtime with around 10 people in attendance. I expect everyone there was a Star Wars fanatic and although even for me it was a surprise to see Maul, this was a crowd who likely weren't shocked that he was alive, just probably surprised that cyber Maul had jumped from the cartoons into a live action blockbuster movie.

Saw it this evening half-full with my boy and I literally heard audible gasps and whispered gossiping amongst the crowd when Maul appeared, I could tell there were loads of people who had no idea he was still alive. Still if even a few of those google "Maul still alive?" and learn about the Clone Wars and Rebels after that and start watching them, then that can't be a bad thing.

How could any of this be?

    1. A main villain that never crosses with the hero? Possible I guess, but it would be weird. Han doesn't believe in the Force by the time of Ep.IV.

    2. Again, having seen Rebels, there is no way this could happen. Maybe a force vision, or something, but we already know how this end.

The end of Maul (Rebels) could be rewritten by the Kenobi movie. Pablo said once: movies > everything else.

I think it's more likely that he could be in Boba Fett movie, depending on when the movie is set. Because Boba can mix with a Force sensitive crime boss and that would not interfere with the canon.

The thing about Maul, I still don't like it. So little screen time. That being said, they're not afraid of using TV canon into their films. So, it gives me hope that Ahoska, Ezra, or even see Thrawn in live action.

So the Duel of Fates stuff is missing from the soundtrack.... Guess they didn't wanna spoil the moment.

    1. That was the best scene in the movie imo. I instantly recognized that this is Ray Maclunkey Park which made this even more awesome. Also when the duel of the fates theme kicked in I almost cried.

    2. If Lucasfilm makes a Solo Sequel Mauls role will be a lot bigger.

I mean, sure, they can do whatever they want and the movies are always the priority... but they won't do THAT. That would piss off a lot of people.

At the same time, I doubt they have reintroduced Maul to a larger audience just for this cameo. There's still a big story to tell about Maul: how he fell from being the leader of a criminal organization, to be a lonley oldman, hidding, in Rebels.

And I don't think Obi-Wan is the best candidate to be responsible for that fall. I think is Vader.

I don't think Vader makes sense. All because of the "when I left you I was but the learner, now I am the Master." I suppose there is wiggle room, but it was referring to the Mustafar duel. I think people don't give enough credit to the "general movie audience." I mean, Infinity War doesn't work if you haven't seen the majority of the MCU.

Sorry, I don't follow... Just to be clear, I'm saying that Vader could be responsible for the falling of Maul. Nothing to do with Obi-Wan here. After the Clone Wars, Maul could become a problem to Sidious again, so he would send Vader to take care of him.

Maul actually seems to be scared of Vader in Rebels, so I'd say it makes perfect sense. Unless I'm missing something.

Oh got it I misread it. I thought you were talking about the Obi-Wan movie with Vader being in it. That being said, it would ruin that arc in Rebels if they just retcon for movie purposes. All of this is supposed to matter.

Yeah, that's the point. Getting Obi-Wan involved with Maul pre-Rebels is problematic. Getting Vader instead, not so much.

So... This was one of the most shocking and random things I've ever seen in a film... :p I mean, the sole fact that it happened. Maul in the Han Solo movie? Are you kidding me? I'd laugh and call it the most unlikely cameo ever if somebody had asked me before I saw it. Man, it was so weird, I felt like I was being pranked or something.

Initially I thought it's waaaaaaaay too random for me to buy it. But now that I think about it... well, it technically works, why not. There's a huge gap in Maul's history. Such a bummer the Duel of the Fates quote isn't on the soundtrack, I'd like to listen back to it. But then, I get why. It would be such a giveaway if the soundtrack leaked...

By the way, was that really Ray Park? Is it confirmed? I could have sworn it was CGI, there was something off about his face. But then I was in a shock, so the image is blurry in my mind... I noticed Sam's voice, though. Huh, imagine being him - hanging around in the Star Wars community armed with such a spoiler. ;)

Yes it was Rey Park doing the performance, but Sam Witer doing the voice! The fact that they imagined to keep it a secret all the way till the premiere is impressive. Most impressive.

Huh, interesting. I literally thought he was CGI. I have to look closer next time I see it. Hopefully soon. ;)

This secret was kept better than Yoda in TLJ.
