I posted this another thread and would like your opinions and to hear what you guys think caused the Awakening.

    Here's my theory.

So if the force literally awakens in Rey during TFA as apposed to metaphorically (meaning she had no connection to it prior) then something had to have caused it. Maybe Luke was responsible. We know he has been seeking old knowledge and secrets of the force since ROTJ. Perhaps he discovered something that subsequently allowed him to do this and Rey's connection to the force was the result.

As for why Rey? Maybe he does have some prior connection to her we haven't yet seen, not necessarily familial but some other event or situation. Which is why he maybe chose her? Almost used her like a metaphorical guinea pig, or by giving her this 'gift' he felt he was redeeming himself for previously wronging her in some way. It could also be argues that he didn't choose her per se, maybe the force did. I dunno but several scenarios are possible.

It would also lend some context to the look of surprise/curiosity/sorrow on his face when they meet. He knows he was responsible. It could also invite conflict between the two, she refused her call to adventure in TFA and seems to have no desire to be part of the conflict. If she finds out Luke is responsible and his motives, then that could turn her against him. It would also give symmetry to her and Kylo Ren as they were both manipulated Into the positions they find themselves. Its very thin... Again lol but its possible.

It could also work in reverse I suppose, maybe Luke was responsible for sealing or breaking her connection to the force (similar to Revan) when she was a child and subsequently dumped her on jakku. If she was a student from a very young age she could have been made to believe that the others at Luke's academy were her family. He maybe felt her level of potential power, was scared by it and took action to prevent future consequences. Could be a connection to the line in the trailer 'Ive seen this power only once before. It didn't scare me enough then, it does now' maybe he feels he should have taken more drastic measures.

    Its definitely worth pondering lol.

I think to answer this question we need to know when the cosmic Force became dormant (and what that actually means).
Does it mean that no one could or did use the Force? That'd be odd as Kylo Ren and Snokey were up to no good before Rey finds her powers.
Does it simply relate to destiny (which is formed by the cosmic Force)?
Is it just referring to the light side of the Force? - JJ did say that Kylo Ren is the awakening of the dark side and Rey is of the light.
Or is it just about Rey (and Ben) discovering their power?

It's all a bit confusing. And to be honest, I think the awakening was badly handled in TFA. It supposedly happened when Rey was piloting the Falcon but there were no real visual clues to this. It's also confusing as we're told the Force itself was awakened at the same times as the Force awakens within Rey.

I haven't a clue if this relates to Rey's power or how she acquired it. I imagine she was born with it but had never used it, rather than something happening that empowered her. I don't think Rey ever had anything to do with his academy as the timeline just doesn't work out and it appears that Luke hasn't a clue who she is in TLJ, when they meet.

I just don't know though about the awakening- I'd love to get answers to the questions above first.
