I know it wasn't your point, but this reminds me how the rumors/speculation of the ST were so much better than what we actually got. I got way too attached to the idea of Luke and new heroes fighting Vader-worshipping jedi hunters, witches, etc.

Again, not your point and off-topic, but man...

    Anyway-

I'm skeptical that there was a master plan for this trilogy. I think any executive is capable of lying. Plus, what is KK going to say- "Well, we actually came up with this idea because of the TLJ backlash"?

"Well, Rian sort of painted us into a corner so we needed to come up with something"?

Maybe they had the idea in the back of their mind like she said, but that doesn't mean master plan.

** The rest of this post refers to a different part of the leak**

I actually haven't read the full leak, but I'm hoping someone will indulge me on a specific aspect of it.

So the word is that Rey is a Palpatine? If this is true, its more truth this wasn't planned out. I could see the drama of our hero having evil ancestors, but to reveal it in the 3rd movie seems like a waste. No time for conflict or growth for the character.

Also, why go to the trouble of explaining how Palpatine had a kid who had a kid, when saying "When your mother realized she would have another child, the three of us decided that we should hide you from everyone including Ben. Your brother had already been corrupted by Snoke/Palpatine/the dark side. For your safety and his, you were sent to (insert planet). But (insert tragedy) happened and we all thought you were killed. Until you showed up on the Falcon. The force works in mysterious ways. It was a terrible decision to send you away. It drove the final wedge between your mother and Han. And of course, we thought you had died."

    or something.

Wouldn't that be a better arc and easier to explain than Palpatine was getting busy as the emperor? Won't they also have to explain why Sheev JR wasn't force sensitive? It just seems overly confusing to add a Palpatine family line at this point.

"So Rey, you've heard of this emperor guy right? Well he had a kid named Sheev jr. For some reason, he isn't important to this story. He is the one person that didn't get force sensitivity from his force-sensitive parent. So Sheev jr gets married to Mon Mothma jr, which Sheev fr knew would be upsetting to his father. Well, their forbidden love turned both into alcoholics".... I mean, I can't even finish typing up something.

I'll take Rey is a female clone over Luke's severed hand over that.

I don’t want upset/offende anybody with a different opinion, but...
with so much to unpack, I totally forgot to mention 2 things that I find... for lack of better words,
    I’d say, dumb.

1st- if Rey is really Palpatine’s granddaughter, how are they going to justify months of “you don’t need to come from a special family to be special” arguments?
I would take it as a contrived last minute invention/compromise to not steep back too far from
that reasoning and at the same time to concede something to those who said that a personal
connection with the history of the saga was needed.
Here we say, that is “ to let come in through the window, something you the go from the door”
And I always prefer the doors. Namely that she’s a Skywalker one way or another, or that
    she’s a nobody.

2nd- I am just curious to know if I am the only one that would find the Sidius vs the force ghosts of
Luke and Leia fight... the best SW parody ever appeared on screen.
I am not talking about the idea of the force ghosts “presence” on a scene of this sort.
But specifically of a fight (if that’s the case).

I understand some will love it, but like said, I cannot help but wondering if I am the only one
that would take it as something not even Mel Brooks would ever dared to do.

From a story point of view this story seems to me to be a more interesting one, and one I'd rather see as a movie than the story presented in the Reddit leak. But, I don't think they'd actually go in that direction. Hopefully, I'm presently surprised as more information is released.

On your 1st point, it seemed to me that if IX was going to deliver on the ‘anybody can be a jedi’ message, broomboy was total overkill.
I think he was there precisely because RJ knew that the message was going to be undercut in IX.

Some of it sounds plausible, but why the need to "call it something different" in the film? Red flag: there are to many reasons why Rey is not the daughter of Han and Leia. That being said, for the rest of the stuff I don't hate it compared to JP. There is less detail then JP's; which is more plausible.

I like this. It is far better than the leak from JP. That leak I found to be just horrible. I get how it could be far better on screen and it is all about the execution, but really that leak made me shake my head. This one sounds better, which means it probably won't happen. LOL

Sooooo. If Palpatine is Rey's grandfather
( I personally love that idea... perfect Dark light contrast grandson of Vader and Granddaughter of Palpatine both rivals and allies) which "nobody" is Palpatines child? Rey's mother or father? And why (I think this part will be proven to be incorrect by the way) was a Sith dagger needed to kill them?

Hux is petty. He's not serving some greater good he's trying to undermine Kylo Ren so he can take over the First Order...so I totally buy him as a mole.

Little leaks I can get behind but I'm always skeptical of "comprehensive plot leaks" because they never have info on other major characters that by all accounts have significant importance to the story as in Finn and Poe and to a lesser extent Chewie, Lando, Rose.

Interesting take. But in my opinion the broom boy scene was not there - as many believe - to convey the idea "anybody can be a Jedi".
I think it had a lot more to do... with Luke.
That the overall "strategy" (of Luk's arc) was to deconstruct in the audience eyes the myth attached to the character for 3/4 of the movie, so
that by the end of it and in contrast with many previous moments that otherwise had no/or very little purpose (like the milking scene, or all his grumpy scenes
that some would call un-respectful), his finale sacrifice and "ascension" to another plan of existence and to a "myth" capable of inspiring people, would have been a kind of cathartic experience.

I think that this was the goal and that the broom boy was there to try to make crystal clear that this was the point indeed.
Probably because they knew, felt or even feared that too much on the other side of the spectrum (in the "deconstruction" attempt) was done.
And in fact, I also think that something (huge) went wrong with the execution.. regardless.
That this is the reason as to why many are so overwhelmed by the bitter part (the deconstruction) to the point of rejecting Jake Skywalker
(I am too, even tho I can acknowledge that the intent was not to "destroy" the character) while many others who don't have problems with Luke's arc, still don't get this particular aspect.
And the general consensus - no matter if one likes TLJ or not - goes to the idea that the broom boy was only there to say "anybody can be a Jedi".

Well, I don't hate it either and I can see the merit of such twist. However, I think it's far too late to introduce this reveal or even another one.
I would have many problems to accept Rey Solo by now as well. Probably less with Rey Sky because it's easier to say "he didn't know it".
But at least we still have the Arthurian moment of the "Anakin's lightsaber called to her" to justify it.
    And lots of "visual" parallels.
With Rey Palpatine we have anything.

The broomboy scene was definitely there to show that Luke's sacrifice had been worth it and had reverberated around the galaxy, but that doesn't require broomboy to have force abilities. To be clear, it's purely that sole aspect of the broomboy scene I'm referring to here.

We already know that Jedi can come from anywhere. Rey isn't a symbol of "you don't need to be a Skywalker to have force powers"... I think people have been focusing on the "nobodies" thing as some important difference in the sequels. But it was that way before...

The broom boy is a symbol of future generations of light side force users... a further awakening of the force. Luke bringing hope to the galaxy.

The problem with this script, and almost any incarnation of IX, imo, are the movies preceding it.

It isn't obvious to me that either TFA or TLJ were telling a story wrapping up the saga. Basically, IX will tell the whole story with very little taken from both previous movies to give it weight. Basically, both previous movies could be summed up in a 5-10 minute intro and then IX can begin and go as planned, essentially wraping up the saga, for all intents and purposes, in one single movie. That's how I see it anyways, maybe it's because I'm just so down on SW.

Somewhat off topic, this is why I've lost my mojo for The Mandalorian now too. I was cautiously optimistic about it until it was announced it will explain the rise of the first order.

I agree that's an important element missing in the ST, but I was hoping for forget about the ST, and now this will bring it right back front and center. That element should have been in the movie, not in something separate.

We're asked why we can't get over TLJ, well, this is why. It's being inserted into anything and everything SW moving forward. We can't just forget it when it's being weaved into all of SW.

Anyways, this is likely my last post as I've asked to be removed. There are some good people here, I've had some good discussions, but this SW isn't for me. May the force be with all of you always.

The scene itself has a comet crossing the sky. What is that if not a Skywalker object?
A metaphor of Luke “apotheosis” to quote RJ?
But I guess we agree on that.
My point however is that the scene is there to close Luke’s arc. Mainly
I still find it quite redundant and unnecessary. However I can see that without it, the focus would have been only on Rey as the one who’s going to take the torce. And if so this would have only been a matter, a relationship mentor/pupil. While Luke’s arc ends (or at least is suppose to end) establishing the idea that he’s going to inspire an entire galaxy. Made of force sensitive people (the broom boy) as well as those who are not (his friends).
Like said, to quote Johnson, with his apotheosis.
    But this is my interpretation

    Excellent research.
Well... This aligns with my theory that Palpatine is some sort of dummy somebody is puppeteering... but nobody seems to like it :(

    Ouch :(

I gave you a couple of likes to make up for that bad rating. They suck.
    --- Double Post Merged, Sep 6, 2019 ---
I’m with you. The palpatine thing wouldn’t be as bad, because, after Rey discovering you don’t need a lineage to become a Star Wars force hero, she would be prepared to value herself above palpatine. Although I still prefer Rey having no lineage. But as for the ghost fight... that would certainly remind me of a Monty Pathon sketch. It’s completely ridiculous.

If there is nothing in there about Kanjiclub then I won't believe it. From my sources they went to the beyond and brought Palpatine back by sacrificing a Rathtar. Mark my words.
