IMHO, I think it’s only canon once it’s finished, edited, produced and released (all past-tense). It isn’t finished yet. By your definition, Shaak Ti was killed by Anakin in ROTS on-screen, because it happened in production... *Han voice* ‘That’s not how the canon works.’.

What they are working on now, and what may or may not have been leaked, is what is intended to be canon - unless it doesn’t become it.

Water is not ice, but it might become ice. Or it could end up being steam, full of hot air. ;)

I really hope none of these „leaks“ are actually accurate...... it sounds like really bad fanfiction.... especially Chewbacca’s „death“ scene :(

There is no New Republic. It's wiped out in The Force Awakens.
Jason from MSW never said this and he's been quite clear about that. On a podcast he mentioned that there was a rumor out there about that he didn't have information to confirm it.

I don't think this leak reveals everything. It's kind of impossible to do that without a script. It's also very heavy on Rey/Kylo and doesn't say much about Poe/Finn who will have significant screen time. I'm not a huge fan of Palpatine returning, but it's more likely he survived that Darth Maul.

Ok, Remnant New Republic then. Whatever was left after Starkiller Base blew up those... 7?... NR worlds and the fleets stationed there. I have no numbers but, it must be at least dozens of worlds still left of what was once the New Republic, right? (Actually, I would believe the number to be in the hundreds or thousands, but I shan't get carried away). Anyway, this is totally irrelevant circular argument. My point was, we will likely show Leia politicking since those where the segments of TFA that we know were cut from the released movie, and will therefore be reused in RoS.

Whether the leaks are true or not, the quality of the movie still depends on the execution. We should not be so hasty to write this movie off.

Seriously, I don't think there's anything left. That was part of the whole issue and why Leia started the Resistance. The New Republic was pretty much decentralized by design. The fleet that existed was blown up by SKB.

Some of the stuff they cut out from Leia was the politics behind the New Republic which is now destroyed.

    Hux wasn't lying.

Perhaps. But considering the previous movie or two, shouldn't fault anyone for being wary.

Oh I'm not disagreeing with you here. I honestly feel the same more or less. I was just saying there IS a way to make an out, regardless of how flimsy that out is, so the story technically sticks to the canon that Anakin destroyed the Sith (and maybe brought balance to the Force by having a successor for both sides? Now I'm just spit-balling!).

I'm...torn on that. On one hand, I think that's the most likely scenario. Or at least Rey is and/or has clones, and Palpatine is trying to possess one. But for the right one, he wants her to grow up like a Skywalker (think of the Justice League/Batman Beyond finale). But I think it'd be easiest just to say that Luke had a paramore he left for the Jedi Order. Clones would be a great throwback, but that's a BOLD move, and I'm not entirely sure Star Wars wants to make those bold of moves after TLJ and Solo.

Also as an aside, making Rey a clone of anyone gives her the same potential problems that making her the daughter of "someone" does. All of her accomplishments are in danger of being reduced down to "because she's X's daughter/clone/relative," and that's a hard pit to dig out of.

Although, if we're bringing up clone theories, what if Rey wasn't a clone of Luke, but of Anakin? Palps would have had more time and "legal" resources to find out how to clone a force-sensitive person. ...I'm getting really fond of this theory...

    Amen to that!

It's not, but it does become a problem when it feels like you're ruining the original author's intent. Lucas has said consistently that Anakin was the chosen one. To change that without being INCREDIBLY careful would feel like Lucas' idea isn't being honored by Disney. And they've been so good about honoring his original intent so far.

This argument doesn't really work because we know that Lucas himself worked with Abrams and Chris Terrio to craft TRoS' story, so if this does represent a change in the narrative regarding Anakin and the Chosen One prophecy (and I don't personally see any hard evidence that it does), he had a direct hand in making said change and it was done with his approval.

Actually we have no idea what Lucas did or didn't do. JJ has only said they consulted him and that's it.

The manifestation of Han that JediPaxis and Jason Ward have reported on isn't a ghost; it's a vision-induced hallucination...

    And, yes, there's a difference.

I like the idea of spitballing (I mean, there are what, just under 3 months left so why not have some fun speculating? Perhaps, at one point, say prior to ROTJ, Palpatine decided to replace Anakin, something which he did at the end of ROTJ. What if he had begun a cloning program designed to clone Anakin (surely they had his DNA) or Luke or some combo thereof? To create a powerful force user but this time one whom he would raise? Of course Palpatine was killed and that was that. Clones perhaps were stored and the program essentially ended. Then, for some reason one got out. Rey.

Now, someone said it hasn't been established that Clones can be force sensitive. Personally I don't like the idea that they can. But perhaps, in this instance they can. Say the force pushing back against the manipulations of Palpatine's ghost? Again just spitballing.

I agree with you about the idea that there is a problem with Disney and the idea that they aren't honoring Lucas' idea of Anakin being the chosen one. The way to solve that is to, perhaps, have Anakin's force ghost play a major role in the film. That would help tie the three trilogies together.

If they have mediclorians they could be force sensitive. Maybe cloning the Medi’s is the hard part?

I am convinced there has been an ongoing tug-of-war behind the scenes with regards to the SAGA's story since BEFORE the sale of LucasFilm was even complete. Disney blindsided George with the whole treatment discard and he repaid that arrogance by being honest about what he saw as a less than stellar product. Whoopsies! THAT didn't go as Mouse House had hoped.

Disney conducted themselves as if their team knew more about Star Wars than it's creator.

Rian Johnson is CURRENTLY trying to figure out what the essence of Star Wars is.

Dude could have just asked George & been done with it.

Nine is going to be bat-shat crazy.

    Looking forward to it.

Yeah, I can totally see that. I'm not saying that George's outlines were great (how would I know that?) but what were they thinking? Bring him in as a consultant to work with JJ. The dude can come up with some great story ideas. Allowing JJ to be the man to execute them (and perhaps write the dialogue) would have been ideal.

I saw Iger published a book and in it he talks about how George criticized TFA for being unoriginal. Doh!!! Like you said, that didn't go the way they thought it would. LOL Imagine thinking you know more about Star Wars than the creator. And you bring up a good point, why didn't Rian speak to George?

Anyway, these rumors don't fill me with confidence. I am a HUGE believer in the idea that it is all about the execution, and I think JJ can execute it quite well. But man some of this sounds bad.

If George was serious about wanting to take the sequel trilogy going into more in depth with the midichlorians and the whills being a controlling subpartical of them then I’m glad we didn’t get George’s story. However, George could have been just screwing around with us knowing how much grief he took for the midichlorians in the first place
