SHOCKED this was your pick :p

I too went with ROTJ. It was the only one that felt fully earned. And the throne room is peak Star Wars that sets the bar for what it should be.

    ROTS.

While I enjoy all three films, ROTS is the only one that fully builds on what came before, and propels the story in a new direction.
ROTJ, whilst a fulfilling and solid conclusion is retroactively undermined by TFA.
TROS feels more like a sentence-long story from a novel's appendix than the conclusion of a saga. Like 'while Palpatine was defeated, he returned 30 years later... only to be defeated again'.

    This is a hard question.

As I dislike ROTS for many reasons the final battle for me is: ROTJ x TROS.

In general I consider TROS a better movie, but the last 20 minutes of ROTJ with luke x Vader, the space battle and Luke burning Vader's body in Endor is one of the best moments of the entite saga.

But the question here is the best movie not the best 20 or 30 minutes, so I will go with TROS.

    This is tough....

ROTS has the best story as you are witnessing the downfall of The Republic, The rise of the Empire/Emperor and the tragedy of Anakin/Padme.

ROTJ has the best scenes of the Saga as The Throne Room Scenes are as good as SW gets.

TROS has the best ending as Rey goes back to Tatooine, sees Luke/Leia ForceGhost and takes the name Skywalker.

    Still undecided......

Easily ROTJ. IMO it's still a great ending to a great trilogy.

Luke is finally a full Jedi, has to face his father and the emperor-
    [IMG]

    - while his friends are on a suicide mission to stop the second DS.

    The stakes are high!

    Then the final battle happens.

Luke vs Vader with that great soundtrack:

That great space battle (IMO still the best in the whole saga):

In the end the Empire is defeated and we get a happy ending (something I really miss these days, even in the current Star Wars):

'Revenge of the Sith' might be cool too, but IMO it's way too rushed, because everyone needs to be pushed into starting position for ANH.
'The Rise Of Skywalker' lacks in every possible way for me. It doesn't really have an epic (space) battle, Palpatine's death is rushed and Rey on Tatooine is nonsense.

@NinjaRen What about the horses? Wasn't that epic?

They didn't do anything cool though. In TLJ the space horses were at least part of the plot. Okay, in TROS they were used to get from A to B on the Finalizer.

Yeah, Pryde mentioned that they can't jam the horses... what I am not okay with is that the poor horses got forced to go into battle, like the Fathiers in TLJ were exploited by the rich, the defleted stormtroopers from kef bir were not better, right?

I think all three work very well as finales for their respective trilogy, so it's a difficult choice for me.

However, I have to go with Return of the Jedi. The Vader vs. Luke lightsaber duel is a classic, as is the space battle. The Endor forest battle has its fun moments, too.

ROTJ easily! ROTS second, as it has all the makings of a ancient Greek Tragedy (cathartic, bitter, yet with that subtle - or in this case blatant - aftertaste of hope). TROS isn't too bad, but it's esoteric. No one outside of Rey or Ben gets a clear ending.

Jedi has one of the best endings in pop-culture history, an American archetype hero wins with pacifism, faith and love, rather than violence. It's very rare in American cinema and one of the truly beautiful and unique notes that ROTJ gives us.

ROTS is my LEAST favorite Star Wars film. It was very HASTILY filmed and seemed like a labor of lament for George who clearly wanted to get the darn thing over with. The ending itself didn't particularly resonate with me.

Rey goes back to the dual sun shot, which is a reference we've now had in several other films so it was already overplayed. I know the original in 77 is the iconic shot that George himself said he identified with the most, but revisiting it several times over the 9 films seemed a bit careless. That said, at least RoS doesn't humiliate Vader with that truly awful "noooooooooooooooo" scene and I like Rey's light saber color, so I guess it takes second place.

    Can't "jam" the horses?

Clearly Pryde has never heard of glue...

Anyway, it's ROTJ for me, by a mile. I think that it actually does wrap up the plot the other movies laid pretty well, even if Endor seems kinda random. And I'm sure it was chosen as it's far more feasible to show a battle at Endor than the Empire's capital, but... well, what's TROS's excuse? Love it as much as I do, ROTJ's final battle holds up honestly better than TROS's.

ROTS was fine. The second half is definitely the better half, and it has some truly great moments. But even recognizing what I like about the prequels, it still just leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

Right? They should have come up with an idea, something.... like all they could do was watch the horses was beyond stupid- it was supposed to be the grand final space battle. Geez!

    I would say that

    1. ROTJ
    2. ROTS
    3. Rise of Skywalker

All 3 were fitting endings for their trilogies I think. I like ROTJ the most because it is the redemption and not the fall of Anakin.

I did a video that covers all 3 trilogies.

Personally, I like the ending of the Revenge of the Sith. Growing up with the Prequels, Padme was one of my favourite characters so the funeral scene did carry some weight to me. The original trilogy felt more like a boy's own adventure story whereas the prequel was more like an opera in the style of Tristan Und Isolde, Coriolanus and Romeo and Juliet.

To me, the idea that the destruction of the Second Death Star, essentially their capital city ended the war was a little oversimplistic. After all, the Empire still had a pretty good grip on the galaxy. If anything, there would have been a war of succession (with each faction having their own rigid idea of how things should be run and their idea of who should rule) that would have made the situation far worse.

Just look at world history for examples:
    • The Anarchy under King Stephen
    • The Spring and Autumn periods in China
    • The civil wars in the Roman Imperium: The Severan Dynasty, 193 to 245 A.D, Military Anarchy, 245 to 285 A.D, Constantine, 312 to 353 A.D. The Valentinian Dynasty, 365 to 398 A.D.
    • The usurpation of King Edward by Simon De Montfort and subsequent restoration of the Plantagenet dynasty to power
    • Three Kingdoms era China
The Sequel Trilogy to me was the equivalent of Dragon Ball GT. Like GT, the sequel trilogy tried to capture the spirit of the original series while working to introduce new concepts with varying degrees of success. Unfortunately, Dragon Ball GT found itself having alienated both fans of the original Dragon Ball series and the fans of its sequel Dragon Ball Z (though fans would arguably say that both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are the same series).

I like how the happy ending fits with the fairytale nature of the OT. And on a macro level, maybe the ST can be viewed as a war of succession from a certain point of view. Who is the real heir to the galaxy? The New Republic, who want to revitalize the ideals of the Republic of old (not be confused with the Old Republic, but maybe the High Republic)? Or the First Order, who "honor" what that Republic eventually turned into?

That theme song will never leave our souls. WELCOME TO THE GRAND TOUR - GRAND TOUR! GRAND TOUR! DRAGON BALL GT.
Pan and Trunks as characters were good moves. So was sidelining Goten, as much as I hated it as a kid. Turning Goku back into a kid...well...that was something. (Younger me hated that choice, but he could also understand why it was made). The final arc of the show was a really interesting concept. But what I will NEVER forgive is how after GT, in every game and every discussion, Gogeta was stronger than Vegito. And then what Super did to the earrings...sigh...

Anyways, what do you think about Dragon Ball Super? Do you think it works as a sequel?
