I know that it is now 2017 but seeing as how there is not a thread for this, I wanted to ask: which is your favorite movie of 2016? I know that's kinda hard so I'll let you do a top 5. I would make a poll but there were quite a lot of movies that came out in 2016 so it would be rather long.

    Here are my top 5:
    1. Captain America: Civil War
    2. Rogue One
    3. Finding Dory
    4. Hacksaw Ridge
    5. Zootopia

Honorable mentions: Jason Bourne & Magnificent Seven

    5. The Nice Guys - One of the funniest movies I have seen in years. A Shane Black gem. Would watch a dozen more movies with Gosling/Crowe together.

    4. Moonlight - Such a fantastic piece of storytelling. Telling such a complex and difficult story in a beautiful way.

    3. The Hunt For The Wilderpeople - A gem. Hilarious and captivating. It's a brilliantly told story with great acting and delightful humor.

    2. Hell or High Water - The best western since The Unforgiven. Yes it's a western in modern day America. It has the best writing of the year.

    1. Hacksaw Ridge - The best war movie maybe ever. Gibson is such a great director. Garfield delivers a magnificent performance worthy of all the awards.

Deep down it kills me to leave off Arrival, Rogue One, Civil War, Midnight Special, Jackie, Kubo, Moana, Zootopia and Doc Strange. All of them are such fantastic movies.

I didn't see nearly as many films in 2016 as I would've liked, but here's my order:

    1. Rogue One- My inner Battlefront childhood loved this.

    2. Captain America: Civil War- In my opinion, the best Marvel film to date

    3. 10 Cloverfield Lane- Not what I expected, but amazing for what it was

    4. Suicide Squad- I don't get the DC hate. Yeah, Man of Steel wasn't amazing, and BVS had some serious flaws, but Suicide Squad was pretty good. Don't expect your superhero films to win an Academy Award, expect them to be fun and take the awards serendipitous.

    5. Room- Technically the end of 2015, but fight me. Absolutely haunting film, and an interesting look at epistemology.

    edited 1 film, descriptions added

Swiss Army Man is certainly not for everyone but man, if that movie hits for you it is fantastic viewing.

It's a great one. I actually just edited it off the list for Room (which was technically (2015, so SAM might be unjustly dethroned) but I do have to admit that it hurt me taking it off.

I just saw Nocturnal Animals really liked that film. I also liked Passengers despite all the negative reviews I enjoyed it very much. Overall, both very sad films but they will stay with me for a long time. Might watch again.

@Rogues1138 I saw Passengers mainly because I'm a big Chris Pratt fan and also like Jennifer Lawrence. I found it odd that those two would be paired together in a film. They seem like two completely different people. Overall, though, really was a little let down upon seeing it. It was okay, just kinda hoping for more. A couple parts I found were a little cheesy

    I go for:

1 - Hell or High Water, a modern masterpiece, a neowestern in the middle of capitalism, where banks and fire guns have the same triggers. Sublime writing and absolutely brilliant soundtrack by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
2 - Midnight Special, another masterpiece from Jeff Nichols. A modern fantasy tale, with tension since the first minute, to make a brilliant homage to some 80's stories, with an amazing cast.
3 - Sing Street. A charming vision of adolescence set in Dublín in the 80's. Brilliant Young actors and great music.
4 - Hunt for the wilderpeople. The big surprise of the year. Lovely, hilarious, funny with great humor and amazing acting. A beautiful and great adventure.
5 - Swiss Army Man. The most surreal, crazy, hilarious, funny, dark, unclassifiable, unpredictable film in ages. There's nothing like this.

Special mentions with merits to be on top 5: Arrival, I Am not a Serial Killer, Loving, Everybody Wants Some, !0 Cloverfield Lane, Rogue One, The Eyes of my Mother, The Handmaiden, The Neon Demon, Toni Erdmann, Elle.

I didn't see a lot of the films in 2016 and honestly I don't Rogue One one was the best. It is one of the best but my vote goes to Kubo and Two Strings. It's the only film where I enjoyed every moment and can't think of a single thing that's wrong with it. It was told well the characterswere well done, it had the right amount of comedy, drama. I have a whole new respect for the people that make these films. It proves that Disney, Lucasfilms or Hollywood are not the only ones who make the best movies.

    It's a wonderful movie.
    I'd highly recommend it.

Should win best screenplay but likely loses out to something bigger.
Ben Foster gives one of the best turns of the year for a supporting role.
It will change how you view Chris Pine (new Captain Kirk)

What are the odds that Hell or High Water would be almost everyone's favorite?

My only concern with that movie, is there anything inappropriate? Why is it rated R?

In my opinion is highly recommended ;)

I think you won't be disappointed

Solid Script, enveloping and suffocating environment and music, amazing acting from all, great and tormented characters, rhythm, and directing.

The rated R is for gun violence, crime and tension in dramatic, violent and non-pleasent situations (trying to describe the best i can with my english :p). Not kind of normal life I guess.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jan 18, 2017 ---
Really really looking forward to those three films.

And now, with 30 posts, I guess i can put some votes out there yehaaa ;)(epic fail)
