The big spoiler review thread

I think we should have two threads. One for Spoilers and one for None Spoilers. Just so that they don't get mixed up and someone watches something they didn't want to.

 

So far TLJ seems like a film critics will lap up, while fans will find it polarising.

 

I’m ok with that. As long as it makes sense.

 

I will put it this way..

Forget all that you have learned so that you can embrace the new cannon...

Be prepared to have fun with the movie, but at the same time be the most disappointed you have ever been as a SW fan.

 

Is the embargo out yet though i signed no NDA ...

Spoiler: Leia's first scene

That force move was unrealistic absolutely ...

 

I have seen the movie a few hours ago and I'm not completely sure about the way I feel about it.

The good part is the Jedi arc : the tension between Rey, Ren, Luke is very well done. I was properly lost during it, not knowing what to think, where it would go. I'm really not into Reylo, or dark Rey but at some points during the movies I really thought that either possibilities could happen. As a consequence, I think this movie is quite dark and this part of the storyline casts a huge shadow over all the movie. It was very well done.

The not so good part is the Resistance one : I never felt involved in it or any kind of urgency, sense of danger in it. To me it's definitely a B storyline, a filler, the sections you want to skip to see the other story. And it comes from someone who loves battle scenes, space combat, heist operations : to me it did not work. Finn is underused, Rose is okay I guess while Poe's arc is the most interesting on this side of the conflict but remains average.

Now I'll go full spoilers:

• I predicted that Kylo would kill Snoke, take his throne as big bad #1 and ask Rey to join him and Rule the galaxy. And yet Rian managed to take me off guard anyway : it tells how good this storyline has been crafted. The whole Throne room sequence is awesome.
• Rey nobody : I was a fierce proponent of Rey Skywalker and Rey's parents are still a big question that comes out on several occasions during the movie. In fact Kylo Ren tempts her using her abandonment issues. So I really expected her to be Luke's daughter but as soon as her face appeared in the 'mirror' of wishes (is it a mirror ?) I knew ReySky was dead. The way the information is given (almost casually by Kylo Ren) reflects how unimportant her lineage is. In the end, I'm surprisingly quite okay with that.
• Luke: I can't believe he is gone and his projection was one of the most badass Force power we have ever seen. Godspeed Red 5.

To sum up:
I think I like it, some parts were disappointing but others were excellent. I think it's more a movie about characters, not so much about action or battles: it excels at the first part and is average for the other one.

 

Still can't understand consequences of that Force strong kid In Canto Bight.

When Kylo met Luke, Luke said that Ben thought the resistance was dead but it was just raising today.

We have this kid using the Force and having the resistance badge lightning.

 

This is what I thought to.This means Resistance will be needed even when that kid grow up,however that means Kylo's "New Empire"stays as a treat In even more distant future.Kylo will never return from the Dark side?He is New Vader and Emperor in one.

 

I haven't see the movie yet, but i've read few of the plot point spoilers, so is Snoke Darth Plagueis? (i'm still seeing this movie, so these spoilers won't bother me)

No background is given about Snoke. He just appears as a super strong Force user.

I'm glad you aren't going to suddenly decide to not go and see the film simply due to some spoilers. The fume amongst a small minority of fans is just out of control.

Well, it could be true of course. But I think there’s more than that. In TFA we see little Rey in a vision, in my opinion she was at that young age old enough to remember her parents. She would definitely remember if they were drunk all the time (I guess), so I’m still believing someone “erased” her mind to protect her.

I haven't read the full spoilers of this movie, so I still don't know everything 100%. I read the spoiler for Episode 7 and it didn't bother me to much when I saw the movie. Besides I paid the $35 for the fan experience and rumor has it that they may show a trailer for the Han Solo movie after the credits of TLJ. I'm still excited for this movie.

 

There is a whole scene about that and Kylo asked her to say it because like Maz said she already knew the truth ...

 

I saw the movie a couple of hours ago (and of course I saw that scene in TFA), but I’m not completely convinced. I also have the feeling that Kylo just told her “that story” to convince her to join her. She never confirmed that she believes him. I’m not saying that it is nonsense, but just taking his words and believing it.. I’m in serious doubt (we still have another episode to come)
