3-5 years is about right. To give the writers a room to manoeuvre around the situation of Carrie/Leia’s non-appearance in the next movie.
Someone in this thread said something about Lando and I definitely think he should be back in the game and help hit a home run for the resistance.

I think that he deserved more screen time than that ...

Meh, when you accept this is all about Rey and Kylo, his screen time makes sense regardless of what we would’ve liked.

Yeah but some of us found Snoke to be a very interesting figure that we would know more about.

Exactly. But i guess we have to read a bunch of awful Chuck Wendig books to get information about his background.

It would have been better if Ackbar did the Hondo move.

Just came back from the theater. In one word? DISSAPOINTMENT! This is the first Star Wars movie that I don't really want to watch again, although I will, just to see if it will get any better... Maybe I was expecting too much, maybe I was not ready for it...

I don't even know where to start from.

Snoke? A joke! All the theories, all his power wasted like that? Not even a worthy battle?

Luke! I knew something was wrong the moment I saw him on Crait with his younger appearance and the blue saber and it was actually a clever scene, but why waste him too just like that? Whyyyyyyyyyyy???? He had so much more to give! Unless we are going in a "kill all the guys, have all the women be heroes" situation.

What this movie did good was the space battles, but I couldnt expect less. And the character that I had the most worries about, Rose, was actually great with a magnificent performance by Tran.

Anyway, I am still kind of sad, can't really write a lot...

Snoke's death was the worst part of it for me. If he doesn't appear in IX and his death wasn't an elaborate gambit, I'll be very disappointed.

Luke's death did affect me though. Nice but garbled send off.

What makes you think that she learned to swim? Because she’s splashing an awful lot for someone who’s “swimming” :p

For those who know me, I had been fairly critical towards The Force Awakens and its setup. Upon seeing this movie, I can happily say that I very much loved this movie. Let me be clear; my expectations were modest. I love Rian Johnson as a filmmaker but I wasn't over the moon with The Force Awakens and was afraid The last Jedi would be more of the same.

It wasn't. From the characters to the themes, this movie to me felt so much more lived in. Daisy Ridley. Adam Driver, John Boyega and everyone did a fantastic job in their roles. And for Rey; I could finally get behind her. The direction for her and everyone else was a lot better. And the big twist with Kylo taking command I could accept/ killing Snoke.

Why? Because, honestly; I found Snoke really boring and Kylo reminds me a lot of Darth Cadeus aka Jacen Solo. The flaws I do have with the movie are with its pacing. This is something I tend to notice with Rian's films: he loves adding side plots to his work and these can bog down.

Case in point Finn and Rose's. Boyega and Kelly Marie tran both did excellent jobs on their part and I enjoyed the themes the Canto Bight stuff had, but to me that plot could have been cut down by fifteen mins. Which yeah, this movie is a bit too long.

The other thing I found myself loving is Luke Skywalker's depiction. The bit with him almost killing Ben stunned me, but as I thought about it; I could buy it. Namely, because this movie was trying to establish that the heroes that we have, old and new aren't gods. We put them on a pedestal but really they are just as flawed as we are. And Luke very much represented that aspect and I could accept that. Especially, his death for it was him coming to terms with everything in his life and willing to entrust his future to the next generation.

Though, this issue of the Sequel trilogy killing off OT character is an issue and one I won't overlook. But unlike Han Solo; this death was much better. Overall, this movie is NOT the greatest SWs movie ever or even ESB. But in my view, it was a step in the right direction. Has its flaws, but for me its themes and characters really helped pull it through.

Score: 80/100 * Note this score may go up or down upon me rewatching it.

P.S: JJ Abrams better be on his A game, because if we get something like The Force Awakens again, I will be annoyed. Because, I genuinely can say that I love these characters now.

Luke's death was spoiled for me before the movie and I was pisseeeed - because I was spoiled and because I hated the spoiler. Luke Skywalker was always my hero. I didn't want to be the Princess or cool smuggler as a kid, I wanted to be Luke.

But then I saw the movie and saw how and why it was done and it fit into the story they were telling - the heroes are not perfect and heroes can come from everywhere. When Luke finally re-embraces the Force and meets with Leia, he becomes the the hero we needed. Though I even liked his curmudgeon sass (the tossing of the lightsaber was so unexpected, the theater shock-laughed), that twinkle in the eye he got when he decided his destiny: the brushing of the shoulder, wink, "See you around, kid"... was heartwarming. And the twin suns, ho, boy... I am still sad he died and I hope beyond hope that he will return as a Force ghost, but just like you I accepted it. Ironically, Rian destroyed the myth of Luke Skywalker only to make it grow larger if that last scene is anything to go by.

It was a wild ride. The craziest experience I’ve ever had in a theater. I’m a Kylo Ren fanboy. He’s my favorite character in anything. I couldn’t have loved what they did with him the first two thirds more. Then they flip it all on its head. It left me shocked. It just didn’t go the way I expected which is good and bad. The same thing can be said for the whole movie, but I’ll never be able to say I didn’t enjoy the ride.

The beauty in Luke's death and how he was portrayed fits with a really good point I just heard from a friend. If The Force Awakens was a fan-fiction/ homage to ANH, then The Last Jedi is a deconstructionist movie that examines the entire franchise and in turn turns it upside down. And that to me was beautiful to see, because it was being bold, but also being smart about it.

That said, I totally understand why people would have issue with this movie as it deviates so hard away from The Force Awakens and really what we know about the franchise. And I love it. I don't know where I'd rank the movie as I'd want to see it again, but I could seeing this being my favorite in the franchise.

Just because it does so much for the series.

So this is the 5th attempt to get into writing something and it doesn't get better, so I can go with this one.
I have only seen it once so my memory might betray me.Here are the good things.

I actually liked how Luke was portrayed. How we see his actions first from Ben side. Seeing that even a hero can be tempted to do the wrong thing. I like how they show that Luke actually did not give in into that but Ben of course couldn't see that.
After thinking of it I like how they actually make Poe, Finn and Rose responsible for the death of almost all of the resistance, making that side plot not just pointless but if you think about it the worst thing that could have happened.
I like that they show Leia using the force.
And I like the scene where Finn is almost dying. I actually thought it would happen to the end. Man that would have been a ride in the Finn thread.
I like that Finn still is alive.
Rey and Ben have been a great team in the throneroom.
Coolest force trick of Luke ever. Next time he should try it without dying.
Rey taking the books from the tree (Did yoda know that?).

    So the bad things.

The Leia scene using the force was a bit over the top.
    BB-8 chicken-walker.
Kylo beyond the point of no return, now that his mom lost all hope.
Leia probably dying off-screen with no hope for her son.
We don't get any Snoke background at all and with him presumably dead there is no one in the ST left to tell us.
So we won't get any background o the big screen unless a force ghost Luke has a lot to talk about.

    Surprising things:
I managed to stay free of spoilers and most rumors so I was surprised by Yoda. Although I think he looked strange at first it was fun.
The Luke/Ben twist was surprising for me, but did help explaining why Luke is in exile.
Luke fighting Kylo without being physically there was a great idea.
I actually like how Kylo killed Snoke, hiding his plans behind ambiguous thoughts.

For all those complaining that the only Jedi left had no training at all and wasn't actually knighted by anyone.
How much training from a master did the first Jedi have. They didn't even have the books.

In no way do spoilers give that film justice. Anyone hating on the spoilers really should give it a chance and go see it. If you still hate it after, then that is just how it is.

I can barely stand that Rey is not a Skywalker and I HATE that Luke is gone, but the story made it work (not so much for Rey not being a Skywalker, but I will live). Luke has hit a level of power like we have never seen and it is beautiful. I really think that Leia knew that he wasn't there. When the grasped hands and Luke handed her the dice, she looked at him shocked and it wasn't because of the gift, it was because she could not feel him. She never looked at the dice and we never see her drop them. That was Luke letting her know that it was a ruse.

I don't think that the lines between light and dark were blurred very much at all. All of that talk must have been relating to Luke and Ben's confrontation leading to Ben's turn.

I left the film with a very real sense of hope for the Rebels. The torch has truly been past and it's time for Finn, Rey and Poe to gather the future of good int he galaxy and shine.

This was the "adult" Star Wars that so many have pined for over the years.
