It was sooo good! I think I'm gonna need a bigger grill...

I actually do that more often than not!

Another favorite of mine: cut an onion (usually Vidalia) in half like a burger bun, smack some butter and garlic between the two halves then put it back together, wrap that sucker in foil and grill your way to heaven.

you know, i feel the same way, but there's something amazing that happens to good sweet onions on a grill.
i won't eat onions otherwise ~ not on anything!

they bred all the seeds (and the flavor) out of watermelons and now they're breeding all the tears out of onions?
what are we going to blame when we're bawling at the end of ix now???

I had to look this up. I've never heard of them before!!

"...Sunions didn't happen by accident. It took over three decades of investment, development, careful farming and hard work to grow this game changing onion and we don't take that for granted..."

I don't know whether to be impressed or dismayed that someone devoted pretty much their entire life to no-cry onions...

I was bored (I miss you Sweetheart!!!) so I made these lazy cinnamon buns. For one thing, I'm a sucker for cinnamon. And for another, cinnamon rolls are one of the best SW themed food there is: phoebe-leia.gif

    tumblr_ntrspjW24C1t1a3jro2_400.gif

And besides they're really easy to make...

To use in the filling, I decided to make a apricot brownsugar cinnamon version with the cest of two lemons. The most important thing is to drizzle on the icing while the rolls are warm, because then it goes down into all the cracks. Anyways looks like I didn't use enough powdered sugar for the icing... rookie mistake.

The turned out really messy, that's why I call them lazy buns. Definitely need a smaller baking pan... And yes @FN-3263827 that's a pie XD right next to the buns.

    Hahaha!

    They turned out great, Snowflake!

Cinnamon can be used for almost everything, and this is the reason why it's so awesome!

I made this one from the dough I still had left in the freezer, it's basically the same pie as the one I posted a few weeks ago.

Thanks! : D I love this pan too!

    Summer Vacation Food Report

Before starting this summer’s vacation, I went shopping in my old home town and stumbled upon a new Japanese restaurant. So I took the chance to sit outside at a sunny table, although it made ordering via a Samsung tablet a bit challenging because of the brightness.

But nonetheless, the Wakame salad was very good…

    SummerFood_01.png

    …as was the Sushi!

    SummerFood_02.png

    SummerFood_03.png

Some days later and some 760 km up north at the Danish coast…

    SummerFood_04.png

I bought some of the abundant plaice filets, dusted them in flour and fried them in the pan with lots of butter and bacon.

    SummerFood_05.png

There is lots of good fish and other seafood in these waters, like blue mussels.

    SummerFood_06.png

    SummerFood_07.png

Just clean them properly, that cut your julienne of carrot, onion, fennel and garlic. Sautee, add the white wine and some bay leafs and juniper berries and continue to heat until boiling. In with the mussels for about 5 minutes.

    SummerFood_08.png

It does go well with some Riesling, shrimps and garlic mayonnaise on bread.

    SummerFood_09.png

    Lots of shells afterwards…

    SummerFood_11.png

    SummerFood_12.png

Being at the seaside brings the option also to get something out of the water at some local vendors, like a fish shop in the harbor of the town of Hirtshals selling this fine plate:

    SummerFood_13.png

    • fried plaice (of course)
    • fried fishball
    • two types of marinated herring
    • smoked salmon
    • with bread and homemade remoulade, curry dip and cream dressing

Or, at the town of Løgstør you can get a decent Sandwich with smoked salmon (underneath all that green)…

    SummerFood_14.png

.. or a classic (?) dish called “shooting star”, which is bread topped with fried plaice and salad including greens and eggs, with mayonnaise and lots of shrimp. This one also had smoked salmon and cooked cod with it.

    SummerFood_15.png

That shop had all kinds of goodies in the counter.

    SummerFood_17.png

    SummerFood_16.png

And then there are the Danish bakeries. And their magic formula is butter, sugar and cinnamon. Or this time, almond paste covered pastry.

    SummerFood_18.png

Or Drømmekage (dream cake), a specialty covered with a very special brown sugar and coconut flakes.

    SummerFood_19.png

But what would be a trip to Denmark without a proper Danish Hot Dog (where the sausage is grilled and not from a hot water tank).

    SummerFood_20.png

After two weeks, when getting home again, is still was quite hot in these parts. So the decision was easy, going for some cold food in the evening:

It was amazing! This time we were travelling with friends. So two dads were doing the cooking while three boys between 4-6 years enjoyed the sun, the sand and the sea.

Well, the ladies enjoyed the view from the porch, and some Schnaps on the porch after the kids fell asleep…

Never had such temperatures at the Danish seaside before. It hadn’t rained since April, so BBQ was forbidden this year.
