But what about pecan pie? Texan BBQ (I think I had the best one in Austin)? Gulf Oysters (Ate ‘em next to the lake Houston marina)? The river walk in San Antone with all those nice bars you can sit outside on a warm summer night?

But I know what you mean, which part of that dry and desolate place is yours then?

best BBQ in the universe: Sam's on 12th street in Austin, TX: http://samsbarbque.com/ (this was my haunt many a weekend afternoon).

on wednesday i was at a conference in a small town; wasn't expecting to find good food to eat, but discovered a Japanese Hibachi that served a delightful octopus salad. yay! : D the picture does not really give a sense of the immensity of this wonder.

    BANNER.jpg

Welcome back to yet another episode of 'The Supreme Leader's and General's Food Adventures' aka 'How to become better cooks featuring Rocky and Ninja' : D

    Thursday's Menu:

We've tried out this snack classics meet a variety of street food creations restaurant called "frittenwerk" ( => fries factory). Their house specialty: poutine. Their 'Classic Quebec Poutine' consists of a large portion of Sweet Potatoe fries with spicy gravy served with tenderly melting mozzarella cheese curds.

    Frittenwerk.jpg

Funny side note- The cash register (quasi the talking hat of the frit factory) assigns each order a fictional character's name:

Dinner: Caesar Salad with homemade croutons, romaine lettuce / arugula, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes from the garden, grated parmesan, chicken strips and yoghurt dressing:

    salad.JPG

For the maximus tastiness: crisp pan-roasted chicken strips with anchovies, fresh rosmarin and sage:

    gif1.gif

The Croutons were seasoned with salt, fresh basil and some olive oil:

    bread.JPG

... a bunch of fresh cherry tomatoes:

    Friday's Menu:

Honey-mustard salmon, cannellini pasta with shrimps and a sweet and rich pumpkin soup with ginger and creme fraiche:

The finished product looks like this:

    Here comes Part 2:

Saturday's Menu: we've followed Gordon Ramsay's recipe for his Ultimate Christmas Cranberry Sauce:

    1. 150g or 2/3 cup of sugar
    2. About two to three star anise
    3. cardamom (about 1 teaspoon)
    4. Small bowl of fresh cranberries
    5. An apple
    6. Pinch of salt and pepper
    7. Port wine
    8. Orange zest/fresh orange juice

    P1170397.JPG

Time to prep the chicken : D roughly chopped vegetables, fruits and herbs:
    P1170398.JPG

We've placed the chicken on top of the vegetables and later use these sticky roast vegetables and fruits to make the gravy.

    The bird is done...

    P1170409.JPG

... About an hour later- Voilà, bon appétit : D

    ----- Dessert time!

FO inspired muffins with chocolate chunks and berries. To add some extra flavouring we put some cinnamon and kardamon in the dough.

Later that evening- Homemade vanilla pudding with chocolate sauce (we still had some left from making those FO muffins)

xD @FN-3263827 I think this was my first poutine ever... Definitely want to try the smoked meat poutine (pastrami slices served on fried aragula salad with spicy gravy, fresh sour cream, mozzarella and crispy baked red onions) next time I'm in Frankfurt.

Anyway I can imagine that poutine is quite popular in Seattle too... Never had any poutine there? No poutine stories you would like to share? XD

Awesome guys, that really IS the next level of cooking!

I just heard about poutine once in a TV documentary, but paid not too much attention.
Now have to get some for myself!

So a new sushl restaurant oppened up near me so I had to check.it out.
It a chain but the food is still good a it a nice idea in that you sit by a conveyor belt which takes the freshly prepared food around the seating areas & you just take the bowls which look tasty all the bowls are color9coded so the waitress just adds up all the bowls at the end to work out the bill.

First up was a nice Seaweed Salad & some Tuna sashimi.
    20181108_125358.jpg

Then it was some Dragon Rolls Which is a California roll with some salmon on top.
    20181108_130604.jpg
This was probably my least favourite dish

Then it was there Blossom Roll Which is a Prawn in Japanese Breadcrumbs & Avocado Roll topped with Tuna in a mildly spicy dressing.
    20181108_132244.jpg

Also they provide unlimated green tea & miso soup

I love those conveyor belt bars. And unlimited Miso soup is quite a good option, if the soup is done well.

I just had the mediocre take-away Sushi that is the only thing available in this area by the beginning of this week. But the cake before was good!

    cake.png

Although I have to admit that the rolls with tuna and plum, chicken and mango and those with tempura prawn are quite good.
