Well, last week when visiting the town of Potsdam where the late Prussian Kings took up residence, we had to find a spot to refill some energy after touring the Harry Potter exhibition (see https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet....alk-no-drama-please.9551/page-241#post-532231).

Therefore, finding that cozy little Italian restaurant was more than welcome.

Especially, since they served escargots in garlic gravy.

But you can’t go wrong with a good Bruschetta also for starters.

    pts_02.png

After that, a Risotto Frutti di Mare and home made, giant Raviali, filled with ham, herbs and ricotta and swimming in cream sauce, were in place.

    pts_04.png

Unfortunately, the pasta for the youngling was covered with a sauce containing too much celery, so we had to be on the lookout for an alternative. And found it in a street café with homemade cake and ice cream.

    pts_05.png

So sundaes were in order. One with close to a raspberry overkill…

    pts_06.png

    ..some with rum-raisins and egg-liqueur…

    pts_07.png

… and some with nut brittle and home made poppy-seed-marzipan ice cream.

Why strolling down the shopping mile, we had the bad luck of uncovering a Lindt Store. It was … premium chocolate everywhere! Ugh!!!

    pts_08-2.png

    pts_09.png

    pts_10.png

They had tons of different flavors (well, at least the cream filling of those chocolate balls).

    pts_11.png

    pts_12.png

    pts_13.png

They even had a Conche machine on display, as invented by Rodolphe Lindt in 1879 in Switzerland.

    pts_14.png

On that trip, we were loosing money, fast.

So what’s your cup of tea then – chocolate or escargots, or escargots with chocolate?!? :)

Well, firstly, a good cup of tea is my cup of tea. As for the escargots, I can pass there but everything sweet? I'm taking it!

Got lucky today – they served THIS in the cantina for lunch (well, the one at my work place, not the cantina I’m sometimes hanging out in).

It’s a rare treat indeed, thus the picture. Such a highlight will served may once a month. So it was a surprise, but a pleasant one. They even got the pork rind real crispy.

And then there was also the nougat mouse for desert...

Edit: I imagine it was a knuckle of pork worthy also of a tiger ;)

It becomes rare to get the little suckers these days. So every time I see them on the menu, I order them. But it was only the second restaurant where I got the chance within one year. Interesting, both places were Italian, and every time there was garlic, which I consider a must with escargot preparation, although the gravies were quite different in composition.

Same here in any French Restaurant they were my starter of choice .

Also they were part of one of my first great food memories.

I was 12 & we had a school day trip to France (St Omer to be precise) & while all the other kids were buying chewing gum & cap guns I found a small delicatessen & managed to order 12 Escargots  in their shell topped with Garlic butter in my very rough French :D
Needless to say I was not popular on the coach trip back :D

A new entry for 'Ren's and Rocky's Love for Food'- today's menu:

Breakfast- Miranda Kerr's famous banana oatmeal pancakes with fresh berries. This recipe doesn't require any baking soda, milk or butter. Mix eggs, some oatmeal, a banana, honey, cinnamon in the blender until the dough is smooth and heat some coconut oil in the pan...

    PANCAKES_CO.jpg

Lunch- homefried/ grilled chicken with mashed avocado on dark bread.

    HUHN + AVO.jpg

Two days ago we checked out Hendl House, we ordered half of a chicken with a selection of sauces, unfortunately the sauces overpowered the taste of the chicken completely. The potatoe salad could have used some more seasoning, but it was okay and the coleslaw was fresh and tasty.
