Some of my favorites are the simple things. Lemon pepper tofu wraps with pico de gallo made from fresh cilantro and basil I grew in the garden.

It’s amazing what the little things will do for the appearance and flavor of food. Just dice up some red onions or cilantro. Maybe have a few small pots on your patio with basil or dill growing. Just grab and handful of whatever and toss it on what you’re eating. It’s fun and tasty. Cheaper, fresher, and more convenient too. A garden is the way to go.

Thanks! : D it's always double the fun to cook something nice AND post it here!

Cool stuff! Since @NRen and I moved the City we don't have the luxury to grow vegetables and herbs, I really miss having a garden and a greenhouse.

You’d be surprised how much you can do with just a few pots near a window.

We thought about getting a pot of basil and maybe another one with mint... But other than that?

Lots of herbs grow really well in pots indoors. I've grown basil, cilantro (coriander), dill, onion chives, rosemary, and mint. Those last two are so hearty, I'm not sure you could kill those plants if you wanted to. They used to say after an apocalyptic event, only roaches would survive. I'd wager rosemary and mint would be there too. Having fresh seasonings nearby can make any meal happier.

Peppers grow really well in pots too, and there are so many different kinds.

You can also grow sprouts in jars on the window sill. I think they're great in wraps and are very nutritious.

You can also grow tomatoes quite well. At least we grow them in pots at my place of employment.

Whenever I try to follow a recipe, it never goes well. I'm always unhappy with it and it never turns out like it's supposed to, no matter how well I follow the directions. I've found the best thing for me to do is look at a bunch of different recipes for something I want to make to get the general idea of what to do and sort of combine it all with my own spin on it. The more you cook, the more familiar you get with how to get things the way you want them. At least that's how I do it.

I'd say for something like the black bean and sweet potato chili, just make chili however you normally make it, but use black beans and sweet potatoes. Flavor it the way you want, not some stranger's recipe in a book or video. I like cumin, garlic, cayenne pepper, and onion. Black beans and sweet potatoes in chili might sounds strange, but someone had to be the first person to put peanut butter and jelly together.

A lot of the pics I make look good because when i'm done preparing, I go over to my herb garden and add something like basil or cilantro (coriander) to not only give it some contrast and brighten it up, but to add more flavor. I made plain boring beans and rice last night, but diced up some peppers and cilantro and sprinkled in.

Your eyes eat it first, and if your eyes like it more, you will too.

I like wraps a lot. Most of my favorite foods are ones you eat with your hands (burgers, sandwiches, wraps, pizza). Not sure why that is. You can put almost anything between two slices of sourdough and make it delicious. I made a sandwich out of leftover spaghetti and garlic bread one time. lol

I use a lot of tofu. Now you're talking to someone who used to think tofu was the grossest thing on the planet. I just didn't know how to use it. Tofu is bland and soggy. But it takes on whatever flavor you give it, so the blandness is a great blank canvas for making it whatever you want. You can buy a tofu press to squeeze out the water, but I just put it in a clean towel and apply a little pressure. You can cut it into cubes and toss it around with whatever seasonings you like. Lately I've been loving lemon-pepper. I bake it for about 30 minutes at 400 but you can fry it too. Frying gives more texture but adds calories and fat. Thai restaurants make different peanut sauces, so I took some already baked tofu and put it in a pot with some peanut butter and red pepper flakes on low heat and it was delicious. Served it over rice.

I make a ton of smoothies, and almost all of them start with 2 or 3 bananas, a cup or so of oat milk, and a handful of ice. Drink that plain or add whatever other fruit you want. Add a little Bacardi if you like. Bananas get sweeter as they turn brown, so if you use bananas with spots, you wont need to add any sugar. Green bananas taste weird.

I'll try to make up some more specific recipes, but I would worry they wouldn't turn out well. My advice would be to look through this entire thread and come up with your own ideas. Season it the way you want, bake it instead of fry it, add something else or leave something out. Make it your own and just have fun with it.

@RockyRoadHux and I also drink selfmade smoothies every morning. It's a great start into the day and keeps you satisfied for a long time. Usually we use a lot of ingredients, like bananas, berries, broccoli, kale, spinach leaves, red cabbage, lemon, Greek yoghurt, tahini, tea etc. It's tastes great and it's healthy!

Made pollo milanese for mum and bro, with some fusili arrabiata. Burned the bread though  Resisted temptation to burn the whole temple and the sacred tree for good measure.(epic fail)Thankfully, it was just a fleeting moment of pure instinct.
