Exactly my thinking when being there!

End of the month I will have two guys from Vietnam over here, for them the 1st time. Let’s see if I can prepare something typical German for them that delivers the same experience.

This Spicy Lentil Soup might not be for everyone, but maybe it will give you ideas for something you can create.

Chop one onion and two tomatoes.
    412A3ACA-512E-4374-9A18-E6B67137CD04.jpeg

Sauté the onions first in the bottom of your pot with your spices. You can use oil, but I used a little broth. This will soften the onions and the heat will start the spices releasing their flavor.

I used two tsp of turmeric, two tsp of cumin, a tsp of cayenne pepper, a few cloves of garlic, a few diced chili peppers, fresh ground pepper and a little salt.

I like it hot and spicy. Adjust to your taste.

Add tomatoes and stir around for a minute or so.

Grate a tsp or so of fresh ginger.

Add a package of lentils (about 2 cups). I like to add them directly to spices for a few minutes before the liquid.
    5E43AB25-CC2F-41AC-860D-1038786C6E17.jpeg

Add about 6-8 cups of liquid. I used vegetable broth but you can use whatever, or just water. Simmer in low for 30-40 mins until it’s the consistency you like.

You can add or subtract liquid to make it thicker or thinner, depending on your preference. You can also cook longer until the lentils get really soft and the soup gets thicker. I would start with less and adjust as it cooks down.

Add some fresh leafy veggies at the end. I stirred in some cilantro but you can use spinach or even broccoli. I like to squeeze a little lemon or a lime on top when I put it in a bowl. I'm thinking of using peas and carrots next time. I love all the spices and the heat. I could eat this every day. I've been to restaurants where they served something like this over rice. You could make it thicker and do that. You could use beans or chickpeas, different spices, the possibilities are endless. Also, it's very inexpensive

Wow mate, you’re really driving this cooking thing forward! I got in love with a good lentil soup during my middle east trips.

And that Chili looks gorgeous. I did one con carne myself last weekend, but as it was for a children’s birthday, it was without Chili, if that makes any sense.

This week I showed my guests from Vietnam typical German cuisine on Monday, so we were visiting a Greek Restaurant. :D

OK, I’ve to admit, today’s dinner will be in a even more traditional German food place with a huge selection of craft beers. Let’s see how this goes…

Put it in the oven. If it doesn't smell bad, try a bit and if it doesn't taste strange go for it. That's how I always do it with the things I fetch out of my swamp. And look how healthy I am.

Alternatively, when things go really bad, he can at least throw it up

Actually, you can eat everything out of a freezer. The only thing what happens is that it might loses taste, get the wrong taste and/or changes in structure and color, but it will not spoil in there.

BUT bacteria will start their growth again when it goes beyond zero, so prepare and eat it not long after unfreezing.

The tip for e.g. over stored veggies with a grayish color would to make a cream soup out of it. Of course fresh meat with freezer burn is crap, but also not hazardous.

    With that pastry you're save.

@The Supreme Leader and I had some Belgian Waffles (larger squares, and deeper pockets than ordinary American waffles; the batter is also made a little differently than regular waffles, often with a leavening agent or egg whites to make the batter light and fluffy).
