    It's been exactly one year since I and Echo 07 started the Cantina message boards. I have to admit that at first I was hesitant about this. I thought message boards were a thing of the past, but now I am really happy that I was sooo wrong. Celebrating our first birthday, I decided to make a giveaway contest with 10 really cool Star Wars prizes. Also this is a good time to promote our new comment system on the home page.

    The Cantina made me realize that reporting Star Wars news is cool, but it's much more cooler to discuss, speculate and talk about these news with some nice people which opinion you value and respect. I think we managed to build a very strong community in just 365 days. We already have more than 3000 members, but I will take quality over quantity at any time.

    I noticed many people linking our comment system on the blog with our forum community, which are two separate things. Many anonymous posters abused our comment system, posting insulting and racist comments. That's why we decided to remove the anonymous option and install the Disqus comment system.

    So with this post we will try to celebrate two things: our forum's birthday and our new comment system on the blog.

    There will be 10 winners, and you can see the prizes in the form posted on the blog HERE. The big prize is Poe Dameron's LEGO X-Wing, then we have the full Rebels season 1 on Blu-ray as well as some fantastic Elite Die Cast figures including Captain Phasma. And what is a giveaway contest without some Star Wars T-Shirts. We also have a hardcover Aftermath copy, and several die cast ship models.

    You can be one of the winners if you complete at least one of the entries in the form. As you see each entry has a different value. You will get most points by commenting in the new system, answering the question we asked. Also keep in mind that the Tweet entry can be done every day. Also all people who have account in The Cantina will get a bonus of 10 points (all Cantina members should use their Cantina name when they sign in the form on the blog).

    The more points you get, the bigger the chance for winning a prize. Still we will randomly select 2 winners no matter how many entries they have.

    Also we want to ask for your opinion on how to improve the site and the forum. What do you like and what you don't? In addition to the prizes from the main page, all participants in this thread will get a special First Cantina Birthday Party Badge and also 10 of you will get a custom signature.

    Yay! Thanks so much for creating such an awesome site. I can't believe it's been a year... A year ago at this time TFA didn't even have a name and seemed so far away! Now TFA doesn't have a trailer and still seems so far away, so not much has changed.

    One thing I would like to mention is that idk if the site upgrade is as user friendly. There seems to be several more steps to take to navigate places, but maybe that just because I'm mostly on this site with my phone.

This is still one of, if not THE best internet communities around and it's all thanks to your leadership and the effort of all our great members! As you said, it's quality that matters most, not quantity. (x-wing)

    I had similar thoughts, but it might just take some getting used to. Much like Google's logo upgrade, new things can be unnerving at first but will become second-nature before too long. If there's anything specific that we don't like, I'm sure it can be fixed in the next upgrade ;).

    I think so. Do you mean to sign up for a Disqus account? I think I remember actually going to the site back when I got mine, but it was a relatively simple process once I got there.

    I have to say, I really applaud the move to Disqus for the main site comments!! Now all my main movie-related sites fall under the same comment-software, and I can manage my conversations on the blog much better! Plus, it should do away with most of the nastier discussions that kept popping up. All in all, a great move!

    Happy Birthday! I love this community, it's (mostly) a really positive space away from the daily grind/rat race. Gives me a renewed faith in the internet in general. Thanks for all the hard work to the whole admin/mod team, and thanks to Echo07 and Viral Hyde for founding it, and Pomojena for so many many quality posts on the front face of things.

    Happy belated birthday Cantina! Wow. I can't believe it's been a whole year already! Time flies when your having fun THAT'S for sure! This site gave me a quality environment in which to express my star wars fandom and create my own identity. I admit, before the inception of The Cantina, I was a lost star so to speak. I have made this site my rebel base and I don't take it lightly when I see something/anything of an unnecessary hostile element. Call me a sort of antibody, or a rogue guardian member de-facto. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to experiencing the ST and beyond as a proud member! Yall rock! (a.k.a. De-Facto) (jawa)

    It seems like just yesterday I was stuffed with Thanksgiving dinner sitting on my couch counting down with other members the time until the first teaser was going to release the morning after. And now it's nearly only two months away from being a year from then... And only three months from the release of the movie itself! That December 18 release date seemed so far off when it was first announced, and now it's practically here. Same goes for this forum. While I wasnt a member when it was first created, I was checking SW7N pretty regularly. And I lurked on here for some time before I joined, as well. It's definitely my favorite SW forum. Happy Anniversary, Cantina! Here's to many more! (yoda)
