Who fancies trying their luck with the 2022 Cantina Box Office challenge?

Following on from previous successful contests, the game is on again to see who can best predict the ticket sales based hits and duds of year.

A one-time buy in of only 50 credits gains you unlimited access to a summer full some months of potential winnings! (transfer your credits to @Wuher with the reference 2022 Box Office game)

Wherever possible we will go with the biggest releases of the week – with likely heavy hitters like Doctor Strange 2, Thor 4, Black Panther 2, Top Gun 2 and Jurassic World 117 all due before the year is out. The fallout from the last two years does mean that some release dates may still change and some weeks may only see limited or few releases – but we'll highlight which ones these are.

We'll sort some kind of awards at the end of the year for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place (assuming there’s enough interest) which we'll update you on in coming weeks.

Rules

• Each week, movies will be selected for players to guess what their opening take will be in the box office. (See the Release List posted below; any updates / changes will be posted in the thread, as well as changed here)
• Players must post their own predictions for each movies' domestic (United States) opening weekend in US $. See the screen cap below for reference.
• All predictions should be submitted before that movie opens (Wednesday night is suggested, Friday morning at latest (timezones will be factored into submission times)). Note that some releases mean that a given weekend may start earlier, so guesses will need to be in place earlier too.
• Do not post the same prediction as someone else; if you see someone else has predicted $54 million for a movie, you cannot post $54 million again.
• We will be using US domestic figures only, not global or international.
• The numbers we will be using as a final result can be found here on Box Office Mojo:

Scoring
Points are awarded based on closest guess to +/- $10m. "if we can't get it within that range, we don't deserve to win." as our wise First Order CPS once stated!

• 1st closest: 15 points
• 2nd closest: 10 points
• 3rd closest: 5 points

It's a shame that a few promising and hotly anticipated movies like The Batman, Everything Everywhere All at Once, plus well publicised titles like The Northman and the latest Fantastic Beasts titles have been releasing sporadically across the spring, but we've still got plenty to play with when things get going in May.

So, if you're interested, make your transfer and let us know below that you're on board. Game starts week beginning 2nd May 2022, with Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness releasing internationally on Friday of that week.

It's time for The Cantina's 2022 Box Office challenge! with the blockbuster season kicking off with Marvel's latest behemoth Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. As that's the one major release of the week, we'll also test your skills with predictions with a pair of recent releases which are still topping the box office charts.

As usual, predictions need to be received before opening day.
