    Any forum members here ever think the new Dark Crystal feature film will ever be made/released?
    I've heard & read so many rumors & speculation over the last few years it's hard to keep track.
    According to IMDb.com Frank Oz wasn't really behind a sequel or remake. I heard Lisa Henson pushed for a sequel and some film makers from Australia had creative ideas but it all seems to have fizzled out. :(
    What Id read & heard is the new DC feature would be approx 1000 years later. A new princess made of fire(flames) would reek havoc on the peaceful descendants of the first movie's characters. It all sounds a bit out there, but with SFX & CGI I think it could be done.
    It couldn't replicate the magic & art of The Dark Crystal(1982) but it could be interesting.

    But they are moving forward with the production? It' happening the same thing with the Neverending Story remake...
    I think both are on hiatus... :(

    that does sound like it could be an interesting story. Dark Crystal was great but it was incredibly dark for its target demographic. who would be the market now? i just don't know what the audience would be outside of the core fans. the Neverending story on the other hand seems more plausible.

    I actually just finished reading Brian Jay Jones' biography of Jim Henson (a fantastic read, if you get the chance!) and the original Dark Crystal was a pet project of Henson's that he took years to finish, and he was deeply discouraged by the lukewarm reception it received upon its release. I am very surprised to hear that the Henson Company would consider a sequel, let alone actually commit development resources to it.

    Looks completely scuppered. Brian Froud even mentioned somewhere that he was never paid for his work on the sequel. Look where the Henson company is: they held a contest to choose a writer for the next official DC stories (in book form), their other project was a reality tv show. They seem desperate and out of ideas.

    I do recall the SyFy series, the "winner" was from the metro area where I live, ;) .
    I also worked with a top SFX make designer, Joe Blasco & his top student: Connor who went on to win the first season of the contest series; Face/Off.
    It was on a low budget zombie film called Night of The Living Dead. We had actor Danny Trejo in a few scenes but the project never really got anywhere. :(
    Connor was a big dude! He reminded me of the late "Superman" Christopher Reeve. Lol.
    As for the Dark Crystal film, I think a digital animation or maybe a new 3D type project like the Beowolf feature a few years ago could be interesting.
    But as IMDb.com says: when director & Muppet creator Frank Oz was asked about a Dark Crystal movie sequel he replied; "Why?". ;)

    ~A collector obtained a revised First Draft Script of "The Dark Crystal II"[later renamed "Power Of The Dark Crystal"] written by David & Annette Duffy Odell [It would be later re-worked by Craig Pearce]
    *Some details made available by the collector, from the 1st draft (revised 4/15/2005 David/Annette Odell)...these details for the 1st draft script likely vary a bit from the final script by Craig Pearce

    *JEN & KIRA reside in the "Castle of the Crystal" as King and Queen
    *AUGHRA, FIZZGIG, and the PODLINGS reside in the Castle
    *JEN & KIRA have no children
    *Kira uses her wings
    *Something happens to KIRA
    *No major characters get killed off
    *Landstriders
    *An urSkeks appears and warns a Gelfling, named FRIGO (*later re-scripted as KENSHO); not to touch the Crystal
    *The urSkeks splits into the Skeksis CHAMBERLAIN & the Mystic urSol. But reform again at the end.
    *A lot of flashbacks/dreamfasting
    *AUGHRA is much younger & beautiful. She sends out a bird; which is clutching her eye in it's claws...it sees Thurma walking.
    *Mirrors are attached to the roof of the "Castle of the Crystal".
    *THURMA (an U-MUN) with dark dreadlocks.What ever she steps on burns.

    I read a recent media article that the Henson prodco was in talks to develop a new R rated Muppet film.
    The title & logline(story-plot) were not detailed.
