“A deleted scene refers to footage that has been removed, censored, or replaced in the final version of a film or television show.” – definitions.net
Deleted scenes are very common in the world of movie making. Stories and scenes are rewritten continuously, both pre- and post-production wise.

We know TROS was ongoing countless rewrites and reshoots. So, it's only logical to have many deleted scenes or unused ideas.

Here’s one, I would have loved to see in the theatrical cut:

    Kylo Ren and the Oracle:

Kylo Ren rages throughout the galaxy to find the Sith Wayfinder. On his journey he encounters a last servant of Darth Vader, the Oracle (also known as the Eye of Webbish Bog).
    the-oracle-leaked-star-wars-rise-skywalker-concept-art-unveils-strange-unused-alien-creature-18.jpg

This being points Kylo Ren across the plains to the ruins of Vader's Castle, there Kylo Ren discovers an ark containing the lost Sith Wayfinder.
    ETFFtoeWkAEAF36.jpg

This creature also reveals that Kylo is in love with Rey. Hux and Pryde can also be seen in this scene.
    c96a861zkim41.jpg

This two have an argument about Kylo Ren and the First Order. While Pryde is enthusiastic about Kylo's hunt for Palpatine, Hux is annoyed. For him all this is a waste of effort and time.

I think this should have never been cut. This whole sequence would have helped the pacing and the story quite alot. We would have understand Kylo's, Hux's and Pryde's different motivations more.

But which of the ideas – we know of – would YOU have liked to stay in the movie?

I'm very curious about theses scenes, specially the one with the oracle. But I don't even sure if it was filmed.

We have pictures of the scenes that you posted, Hux and Pryde. But the scenes with the oracle I never saw any pics.

The Art Of TROS book describes the construction of the puppet and even mentions how the team of puppeteers would operate it.
Some people have suggested one of the images from the book looks more like a finished frame rather than concept art, but it's hard to say. I'd be inclined to agree, but I haven't been around for a while - this may have been resolved a long time ago...

It really does look like an actual frame of the movie, especially if you compare it to the puppet of the Oracle:

Disney will eventually make a TROS Abrams' cut since the Snyder and Ayers' cuts are being made. Or for the 50th anniversary of StarWars, we'll get a new box set with additional BTS material. This is Disney... this is the way :D

I hope we do see some extra stuff one day. I’m glad the Eye of Webbish Bog scene is canon at least.

I can't say I'm too bothered about seeing any deleted scenes for TROS, it won't change my opinion of the film or the ST. I'm far more interested in the upcoming TV shows now, it's the future of Star Wars for the foreseeable future.

We already got the Abrams' Cut. :p

I hope there will be movies though. I prefer watching SW in a cinema.

There will be eventually but in the Covid world we are all living in at the moment and with cinemas closed, TV is the way forward, especially with the technology they use to film the Mandalorian, they can have multiple Star Wars series running and seeing Star Wars every week suits me.

As much as I was enjoying December Star Wars films, I'd only want them to return to films if they have a plan in place from the start for future trilogies or episodic films, not rushed mumbo jumbo.

I had somewhat mixed feelings about Rise of Skywalker myself (though I still enjoyed it overall), but I still think an extended/alternate cut would be really cool to see. It wouldn't fix everything about the film, but I think it could help smooth out some of the rough edges.

This. Some deleted scenes could help fixing the rushed pacing of the movie. The first 3 minutes of the theatrical cut were actually 20 minutes long. Yeah, 20 mins would have definitely been too long, but some additional footage would have been nice.

I would've probably enjoyed seeing that entire 20 minutes. I like slower-paced movies sometimes. :)

With some slower scenes added I think TRoS could have probably been two movies. But that would have wrecked the structure for me. Almost nothing in TRoS needs ‘fixing’ IMHO, but I’d still love to see an extended version or deleted scenes just out of curiosity. The first time seeing TRoS does feel like it moves at a million miles an hour, but I do think the more times you watch it the less ‘rushed’ it feels, and the more ‘urgent’ it feels. “Faster, more intense”.

Maybe an extended version could be better, but without it existing it’s just guessing of course... I can’t help but think of The Lord of the Rings - when I saw The Fellowship of the Ring on opening night it properly blew me away like very few films have ever done outside of Star Wars, even though I enjoy and at least like most films I see in cinemas. If you’d told me that night that there would be an extended edition released later with parts the director thought made the film too long or messy for the cinema I’d have been a little dubious, though still interested to see it.

As it is, the extended editions of TLOTR are my go-to versions now. Even though I think the theatrical cuts did, and do, actually work better as just that - for theatrical showings - whereas at home where you can take a break and you’re at ease with/comfortable with all the storylines, characters etc, the longer versions give you more to dig into and enjoy. And that's a great thing, and everyone has the choice. Happy days.:)

So yeah, I’d welcome an extended TRoS as an additional version. It’s not without precedent when you think of the OT SEs, the extended version of The Phantom Menace, the shortened IMAX version of AotC (which I’ve still never seen, gah!), and numerous smaller changes in all the films before Disney bought Lucasfilm...

“It’s ironic” though... so much complaining about changes in the past, and now we want to see versions with changes. Lol. But I think the key thing is making everything available. As I’m sure everyone here is aware, a lot of the unhappiness about the SEs seems to come from holding back
/preventing the availability of the restored OT in a pre-SE version. I often feel in a minority defending George Lucas’ right to do that - even whilst I personally sympathise and agree with everyone who disagrees with George’s decision on that. Honestly, I even wrote them e-mails back in the day. :D

Agreed. Under different circumstances I would have welcomed two movies, as there was certainly enough material to justify it. But yeah, then it would've wrecked the idea of having a distinct "sequel trilogy." But having a three-hour (or more) extended cut for the home release would be a good compromise for me. :)

Ooh, I have heard of this before, although I don't know much about it. Was it ever released anywhere?

    Yeah. Options are good. :)

Oh, yeah, everywhere! It’s basically that the podrace is longer. It’s the version we all watch now, unless you watch the original VHS release (not sure about the laserdisc version? Anyone?), I think the extra stuff was first added for the DVD release which came later.

Ohhh, okay. That makes sense. I've definitely seen that version then. I was just wondering at first if it was related to the rumoured six-hour cut or something.

The first DVD release for TPM was the original cut if I remember well.

According to IMDB, the only home release of the original theatrical version of TPM is the 1999 Japanese laserdisc.

I don't really like the idea of introducing a random new "Oracle" in IX. Star Wars already has the greatest oracle character of all time, and it isn't that thing. :D

I’m really curious to see what ended up on the cutting room floor. I don’t know if and when we’ll ever see that, since Disney/LFL seem to be kind of covering up how messy production was on this movie and I feel like revealing more about what this movie could have been would rile up the fanbase even more. (This is coming from someone who is relatively okay with how the film turned out.)

I remember there being a lot of cool rumors prior to the full plot leaks that left me feeling disappointed. There were a lot of reports that Rey and Kylo Ren would have an epic lightsaber fight that would flash them around to different locations from the saga. (Reportedly even using the same Volume technology from The Mandalorian?) A fight between the Resistance and First Order on a jungle planet/Ajan Kloss? A Drax looking guy on Kijimi? Star Destroyers and possibly AT-TE’s showing up somewhere? All of the Matt Smith stuff?

Some of that could’ve been bunk or mistaken for stuff that actually ended up in the movie, but other parts of it were so heavily rumored that I have to imagine it was real. I’m hoping that we get to hear all of the scrapped ideas and juicy BTS details about this film (as well as the spin-offs and other sequels) eventually. Maybe in like fifteen years when the tired “Disney ruined Star Wars” narrative finally runs its course. We know so much about what happened behind the curtain for the Originals and the Prequels, so I hope we’ll know more about the Disney-era films as well.
