    DENGUE SISTERS! Jesus, I hated this name.

    Dengue is the name of a disease and the characters are a bunch of mosquito-like things.

    It's funny, but reaaaaaally weird.

    There are many Star Wars names that have a meaning here in Brazil:

    Dooku (do cu): from the @$$hole
    Panaka (panaca): fool
    Boba: dumb

    Exactly! It's like the case of that bearded Endor comando named Nik Sant - whose name is not mentioned in ROTJ - and that Dave Filoni has declared that he could be none other than Captain Rex (which I would approve).

    Mmm calamari rings. LOL so true!!

    Yeah in Spanish "Boba" means "silly". And when I heard Count Dooku it made me think of this fellow here:

    I do not feel it's dumb, but at first when I heard Rey's name it didn't click at first since Rey in Spanish means "King" or it is also a boy's nickname (for Reynaldo, etc). But I guess I've gotten used to it.

    I know droids are not to be mentioned, but the pronunciation of R2-D2 caused that in Spanish he is called "Arturito" (Little Arthur).

    To be fair, these translations make sense with the characters' traits. George Lucas likes to take words from other languages to name things. The best example would be:

    Yoda = Warrior.

    I don't think that's canon anymore. And God knows that Disney wouldn't allow it. (As far as I remember, the toys refer to the Cantina band as playing "jazz".)

    Also, the Tusken Raider that attacks Luke in ANH is named URoRRuR'R'R. That is both ridiculous and awesome.

    When I heard first Hondo Ohnaka's name I found it sort of funny.

    Hondo means "deep" in Spanish.

    The same thing he thought when he named a style of music "J*zz-Wailing". (I'm not kidding, either - that's what the Cantina Band's music was referred to as in the old days. They've since retconned it as being "Jazz".)
