So here we go... Marvel Studios next small screen outing for big screen characters.

Final trailer for the show is out there and it all gets going in 2 days time.

I’ve got to admit I’m slightly disappointed that it’s only a 6-episode series given the scope for what they could cover here as part of the ‘journey to MCU Phase 4F’, especially when (as decent as it was) WandaVision ran to 9-episodes and in hindsight could have been tighter.

What are people hoping to see/get out of this? Will Sam come to accept his recently bestowed mantle by the end of the series? ...and if yes, can we expect a final scene reveal of a Falcon/Cap hybrid costume? What’s the goal for Bucky? Are we expecting any other known or hitherto unseen MCU cameos... or more WV style teasing? How does Zemo fit into this narrative? ...What is the unladen weight of a migrating swallow?

    Come at me Cantina!

Woot Woot! I won't be able to watch it until Sunday* at the earliest sadly, but I'm SO EXCITED!

All I really want is some high quality action, fun buddy-cop vibes, more screen-time for Sharon, and a good story. If they do that, I'll be happy.

There have been some talks and rumors about how topical this show is, and I won't be surprised if that's the case. The modern Captain America movies have always been pretty topical, and I can easily seeing this digging into some of the complexities of being tasked with the next carrier of this patriotic legacy when your nation hasn't always been as respectful of your personal legacy. And in a weird way, that makes sense. WandaVision was all about trauma, I can see FATWS being all about sociopolitical disagreements (to phrase it nicely).

Although Marvel's release schedule is messing up my ultimate viewing philosophy...

*I'm coining the term Superhero Sunday, since I plan on watching Zack Snyder's Justice League, the latest Power Rangers Dino Fury episode (the full five-man team is supposed to be united), and FATWS all in one day, along with the next chapter of My Hero Academia officially being released.

Depending how long 6 episodes will be, it'll probably be the length of a normal MCU movie if not longer. Say on average each episode is 47 minutes. 47 × 6= 282 minutes is 4.7 hrs. So, say a half hour each episode is 3 hours. That's still a lot of content.

I saw a brief report somewhere recently where Mackie described the show as a ‘6hr MCU movie cut into chunks’, so I guess it could actually have an overall run time similar to or in excess of WandaVision.

Wiki reckons a $150m budget too!

Very solid first episode. A lot more accessible than the start of WandaVision which is a bit of an unfair comparison. This feels a lot more like a typical Marvel story from the start. The first 15 minutes are great... I can't but be thankful I'm living in such a great era of quality TV entertainment.

Very interesting first episode .... starts out with a bang and then gets into some serious character backstory and thoughtful moments.

Very deep with some good action. Especially enjoyed Bucky's bit with the therapist.

So the guy the government intro'd as the next Captain America is supposed to be who exactly?

U.S. Agent is his comic-book identity. He's basically the Ultra-Conservative alternative to Cap, with all of the...implications that can bring.

About the episode itself - Marvel is just flexing at this point, and I'm here for it. They gave us a nice action scene and then 25 minutes of solid drama and character building that perfectly builds the slow-burn this show is shaping up to be.

Racial, socio-political, and military/vet commentary, some fun action beats and a potential love interest for Bucky (and possibly Sam. I saw the chemistry, but I'll wait and see what the show says)...yeah, this show is ready to play.

...and this didn't happen AT ALL. But I did space it out pretty well over the past five or so days:
    Thursday - Justice League
    Friday - MHA leaks
    Saturday - Dino Fury
Sunday - MHA Official Translation & Justice League with my dad
    Monday - FATWS Episode 1

I had heard rumors about Isaiah appearing, and I'm so so so glad they were correct. This episode did nearly everything I wanted. There was humor, drama, action, and even empathy. John wants to be a good Captain America, but wanting to be good doesn't mean having a good heart or being able to live up to the pressure. (Then again, it's not like Sam and Bucky were really playing ball...then again, it's not like they have to.)

And the topical nature of it all! Racial profiling and erasure from history, civil injustice towards black people, and Tuskegee Experiment-like experimentation on Isaiah...yeah, this is everything I hoped FATWS would address. But now it's time to see what they do with it, because bringing up the issues is only the first step.

I'm also curious about the therapist. A person on social media I like is an Air Force vet who thinks that Bucky's therapist is terrible and is only focused on getting Bucky back to work. I can definitely see that, and since I'm not a vet, I have no right to say she's wrong. But I also can see Bucky as being a tough nut to crack and really needing that pressure to crack. I think one of the final scenes here really shows both sides of the argument. Any vets watching want to chime in on this?

I may like this show more than Wandavision, but I think Wandavision sort of petered out, so we will see.

So I am a bit confused on Isaiah. I get that he was a super soldier active during Korea. But when he says he was in jail I can’t tell if I t was by the US Government or Hydra. I wouldn’t be suprised if it was either, but I couldn’t tell.

Oh it was definitely a US facility he was held at as they continued the experiments on him afterwards & if it had been HYDRA then he would have been with killed or turned into another Winter Soldier like Bucky.

Also I loved that Bucky knows who Gandalf is as he read the Hobbit when it first came out n 1937 .
