SPECULATION The Fate of Finns Lightsaber

My theory is the lightsaber belonged to Luke's wife (it was given to her by Luke just like in the EU).
That's the only way the MSW ending would seem logical in my opinion, the audience finds out Luke is alive and he finds his long lost daughter and the lightsaber that belonged to his wife.
No idea who will keep it, Rey or Finn might use it during training but they should eventually build their own lightsabers.

 

That is a very good question. I honestly believe that Finn will end up with the Skywalker saber and Rey will most likely either create he own or get Luke's. Of course this all depends on what happens to Luke, lol
As far as Leia, I believe she chooses not to be a force user from here on out. Leia most likely feels that she is better as a leader than running around with a lightsaber as she leaves that to her brother.

 

He is lost/destroyed, Kylo Ren takes it when his light saber breaks, or Chewie has it .

 

I'm not saying her name will be Mara Jade or that she is alive in fact my theory is she was seriously wounded during the academy attack and she escaped with Rey on the falcon leaving her and the lightsaber in the care of Tekka before dying.

 

I'm going to go with that Finn gets to keep it, *but* I think it gets destroyed in Episode VIII so he does eventually have to make his own on his path to becoming a true Jedi.

I can only hope that "Mara Jade" is at least referenced off screen as Rey's mother IF Luke is her father. We will see.. Can they use Mara and does Disney have the rights to the EU? Also, I AGREE it would be really cool if Luke gave Mara Jade's saber to REY. It would be a great nod to all the EU fans that have sort of been slapped in the face unintentionally.

 

I just wanna say too thar I've never read the EU but have heard alot about it,espcially about Mara Jade. So I would intrigued if JJ did use her in some way as a few of you suggested.

I have a theory of how Rey ended up orphaned and it would mirror the OT and the PT greatly but that is for another thread where I may share

 

Finn dies. After that, the lightsaber is given to Leia by Maz Kanata. And it stays there as the Skywalker heirloom. (Tell me if there's some info or at least gossip about Finn being in ep 8, please.)

I think Luke either lets Finn keep it, or he will destroy it, probably the latter. Being on this side of the Prequels we now know the evil that the lightsaber has done in the hands of Anakin, whereas before we only knew it as Luke's father's lightsaber. I think we will see Rey build her own, or she has a hidden blade.

 

Note: For those of you member's not familiar with who Mara Jade is and wondering who we are talking about.
Mara Jade is Luke Skywalker's wife in the EU (Expanded Universe). In that universe Mara Jade Skywalker was, during different times in her life, an Emperor's Hand, a smuggler, and later a Jedi Master who sat upon the Jedi High Council.

I think it is passed down generation to generation.
Anakin to Luke to Rey (assuming he is her daughter or niece).
Even when Obi Wan (master) took it and gave it to Luke (his apprentice), he said 'Your father's lightsaber'.

I can't see them giving it to Finn. It is a bit random. It is like if your dad passed away and you give his clothes to your daughter/nieces friend. It's just weird and doesn't make a lot of sense.

 

From a story perspective....it's a toss up between Luke taking it back because of its importance and perhaps the green one being given to Rey or Finn.

Or Finn will get to keep it, based on maybe proving himself?

I dont see how it would make any story sense of Rey getting the weapon, since she hasn't really used it and proved worthy of knowing how to use that weapon.

But it's an interesting question....I am leaning more towards Luke wanting it back and using it in a fateful duel.

 

@Bluemilk Off-topic - You need to.... What really got me started in reading the EU is what I call Star Wars Episode IV1/2 Shadows to the Empire. You can pick it up very easy at any book store.

@DarthWalker - you mentioned above that the Skywalker saber would be destroyed. What do you mean and what are your ideas behind that?
