Knowing what we know, if you're a spoiler hound like me, its sounds like Rey spends most of the film either turning her back on her Jedi past, or even suffering from the SW equivalent of PTSD and refusing to acknowledge it.

Then the final duel happens, and it seems like a force-sensitive Finn charges in to fight Kylo Ren, but is defeated. At that point it comes to Rey to step up.

Listening to the SW Underworld podcast a bit ago I had this vision of how that might play out, and it honestly gave me goosebumps. In the concept art, it seems like Finn loses his (Luke's MacGuffin) saber in the fight with Kylo. It's loose, in the snow. At that moment, possibly as Kylo is about to kill Finn, Rey has an awakening. She uses the Force to retrieve it, like Like in the Wampa cave but without any hesitation, instantly transforming into our noble, badass heroine. That that could be one of the coolest, most crowd rousing scenes in any of the films. Think about the moment in Rebels when Kanan reveals to everyone that he's a Jedi and how cool that was - that was a cartoon!

The Force Awakens. To me, this is the moment (or one of two, theorizing that possibly Kylo Ren's killing of Solo symbolizes the awakening of her balance in the dark side) the title of the film refers to.

Anyway. Just piecing together leaks and spoilers into what might be.

I agree. I get the sense that Rey is going to be the "reluctant hero" throughout most of the movie and the final battle sequence where she comes to grips with it. I like your ideas on the final battle and I do think this is the moment when "The Force Awakens" in her and she fully embraced the force. However, I think we will see some subtle force use from her throughout the movie. (not to spoil it for anyone who is not following the spoilers) I won't be specific but we may see some subtle use at other times when she is fighting and flying.

The way you envision the ending fight would definitely be electric and I hope it is close to the way you envision it.

Yes and the reluctant hero would be a cool twist on what's been done.

Anakin and Luke were too eager.

I hope/think we get hints of her abilities through out the flick.

    Side question-

Am I the only one that thinks it would be cool if in 8 she constructs her Jedi version double Maul saber? Another way to seperate her?

I did a thread ages ago concerning a duel between Finn/Rey and Kylo Ren where Finn gets defeated quickly and it's Rey and Kylo going at it. I had the exact same dramatic force pull scene, I think we both got inspiration from the same famous concept art piece. I had Rey losing though and that's the rumored Rey gets captured thing.

I don't think Finn will be involved in the final duel of TFA it will be Rey saving Luke from being defeated on a star destroyer by Kylo then it ends in stalemate when the villain escapes & Luke resents Rey for letting Kylo escape Rey then decides to go after Kylo alone in her own craft she manages to shoot him down as he comes out of lightspeed near that snow planet & she pursues him to the planet surface hence the igniting of his lightsaber in the debut trailer what happens next I don't know.

I keep reading these speculations about how Kylo is going to defeat Luke and then one of the untrained new characters will defeat Kylo from time to time. I feel like this is a terrible diservice to Luke as the character of who he needs to be. They already did this with Yoda. Yoda was made out to be a badass and fails in both of his major encounters during the movies. I would hope that Luke is just taken out of the equation because of other duties and he doesn't have a battle with Kylo or the battle is interrupted somehow and Luke doesn't get to finish him off. If they simply allow a new character to save Luke then beat the new villain later in the movie then that is really bad writing in my opinion.

Yep maybe Kylo will get away in this one until the second movie.

Considering Daisy Ridley is confirmed for all three films, probably not very likely. But who knows, aside from JJ and the people on the set that day and the writers and the editors?

I personally think that Finn either won't be force sensitive, or it will be um...well...his Midichlorian count will be much lower...

Which could create an interesting story line down the road where he's tasted the power of the force but he's weak in it, causing him a lot of conflict ion and jealousy of Rey.

Very nice theory. I like the concept of the awakening being within Rey herself. What if instead of Luke, Rey is the one that really brings back the Jedi (or some group based off their vision of balance and peace) and makes it a force that is relevant to the galaxy again?

Well, let me just say I hope I'm wrong, simply because I don't want to think I figured out a key moment. I'm not that creative or imaginative, so it would be a letdown if I did!

But from a storytelling perspective, I still think Luke is a critical character to to the story, and that it's still his arc to complete the journey he started out on - "pass on what you have learned."

I'd still get chills even if what you say is correct. And that could be what it ends up being: Luke the mentor and vehicle of the knowledge, but with Rey as the champion.

Yes Rey will fight Kylo in both Episode 8 and 9. Kylo will cut Rey's hand off and reveal the big shocker to Rey. Rey will rise up with her new cybernetic hand and defeat Kylo in Episode 9. Finn will not be able to fight Kylo. Only Rey is powerful enough.

Hmm . . . no, Luke will not need to be saved from being defeated by a Vader-wannabe. Luke is the most bad ass Jedi in the galaxy.

Now . . . come VIII and IX, Luke made need help when it comes to Kylo and Snokes. THAT I could be on board with. Possibly even fail tragically in some way, leaving Rey to take them on herself in IX. That or Luke goes the way of Yoda.

Ep VII - Rey v Kylo
Ep VIII - Rey and Luke v Kylo and Snokes
Ep IX - Rey v Kylo and Snokes

Rey comes full circle and takes Luke's place as the bad ass Jedi in the galaxy.

I am still holding out for a turn at the end: where everyone is looking at Kylo Ren as the presumed apprentice of the Sith Lord (still cant make myself call him Snokes), yet all the while Snokes is really focused on Rey. She awakens, but not in the manner in which you would expect. She watches Ren murder her father, and while he is beating the pacifist Finn down, Rey turns to the dark side and slays her brother....Before you get all righteous on me, do not deny the potential of the dark side is not in her: her great uncle had it, her uncle had it, and she has it too. I am thinking how Luke defeated Vader and yet stopped short of killing him and not giving in to the hate. Except instead Rey, who has issues for being separated from her daddy for a lifetime, then reunited long enough to see him murdered at the hands of her brother-- gives into the dark side and finishes Ren off like Anakin killed Dooku. Thus it starts.

I am pretty open I don't think she will be a dark sider but that is an interesting twist. It would be her fall and early. Leaving Finn and Poe to deal with her and Snokes for 2 more movies. Though this contradicts rumors that I find more likely than this idea.
