Let's talk the presence of the Empire and, maybe, the beginnings of the First Order in the Mandalorian.

As Season 2 goes on, I think that this show might have more to do with the First Order than we realize.

I know people have some canon squabbles about Rae Sloane and all that, but let's look at the show itself and what it's trying to tell us.

First off, Favreau's comments from before Season One even released:

“what could happen in the 30 years between celebrating the defeat of the Empire and then the First Order? You come in on Episode VII, [the First Order are] not just starting out. They’re pretty far along."

So Favreau is obviously interested in exploring the beginnings of the FO.

And now, look at everything we've seen so far in Season Two.

-A mysterious cloning project that requires loads of midichlorians and looks almost undeniably like Snoke.

-Carson telling Cara Dune about a growing tide of Imperial activity, that it's something big happening in the Outer Rim and the New Republic doesn't believe it (very similar to Leia's struggle to make the New Republic believe it).

-The mention of a "new era" for the Empire

-Troop transports in Chapter 14 very similar to those used by the First Order.

-Boba Fett's chilling pronouncement that "The Empire is back." The tone of this scene makes me feel that we're supposed to sense the gravity of it, that it's bigger than one warlord. The Empire has returned in a significant way.

To me, all this adds up: This show is telling us that we're watching the First Order take shape.

It might not totally mesh with the rest of canon yet. But I think it totally could.

I'm totally down for this. I think this is a show about Mando entering a larger world. First, he learns to care about something other than himself (his attachment to Grogu). Now, with the returning Empire and the fight for Mandalore, he will have to learn to care about something either greater than his little clan.

    So what do you think?

I think you're probably on to something. Though I don't really want to see the show turn into New Republic vs Empire / FO, there is still plenty of room for it. Heck, this is already much more "Empire" than I thought we would ever get.

Maybe we won't see FO necessarily. But I'd love to see some known FO officers in Empire garb. Brendol Hux is the easy one that comes to mind.

Yesss. I couldn't think of the other name, I kept getting stuck on Rae Sloane.

Hux Sr. and Rax definitely seem like they would fit more into this storyline than Sloane though.

I would love to see any of these characters show up. Honestly, I would just love to see how they interact with Moff Gideon. I could imagine there being a good bit of tension in those relationships.

Holy heck, I never realized that was Domhnall's dad! And it makes so much sense!
I love that actor.. but apparently not enough to ever retain his name! Haha.

    Sage. And based.

Keeps the Father & Son(s) theme going; also ads some ironic depth to Double Oh Eighty-Seven-Hux's role in Episode 9.

Brendan Gleeson. Brendol Hux. I mean, come on!

But seriously, the elder Gleeson in Star Wars would be a dream. He's such an amazing actor. His inclusion alone is reason enough to put Brendol Hux in the show somewhere, and if advances greater themes, all the better!

    You didn't?

Brendan Gleeson appearing as Imperial officer, Hux Snr would be a nice nod

That's really a speculation man! No one ever mentioned the first order. Each remnant try to make a mini empire, they all want the same - power! No, I don't see first order taking shape here. It's just the local warlord thing.

I don't know, it sure looks to me like something sinister and devious is taking place here.

That just doesn't make sense to me in terms of the what the show is saying. Look at Carson's speech to Cara, talking about all this stuff in the Outer Rim being connected. Look at Boba Fett's shocked "The Empire. They're back."

The show wants us to think that this is bigger than local warlords.

It"s s Star Wars man! Everything is possible. Yet no one mentioned first order or the new order or palpatine. I wrote already to another thread, when people have too many expectations they easily get disappointed. I am not sure I want them to bring the first order, and Leia or Luke or Han in this show. I prefer it to stay a small story that unfold in the outer rim.
So far the show is great!
